Provides additional information relevant to an article by the current authors (see record 1978-04088-001) that described the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP), with some historical notes on the professional school movement. This article notes the many "firsts" in this new movement, including developments at Adelphi University, the University of Montreal's Institute of Psychology, the University of Denver School of Professional Psychology, and the South Florida School of Professional Psychology in addition to California School of Professional Psychology. It was with some chagrin that we read Grzesiak's "Psychology Services in Rehabilitation Medicine: Clinical Aspects of Rehabilitation Psychology" in the August 1979 issue of Professional Psychology (see record 1980-33168-001). In his article, Dr. Grzesiak focuses basically on in-hospital coping and adjustment to disability--hardly a reflection of the holistic approach he mentions. Further, although he correctly points out that psychological tests should be applied on an individual basis and that results should be carefully interpreted, he might have included a discussion of the measurement and evaluative tools that have been developed and utilized in the rehabilitation counseling field. Dr. Grzesiak's relegation of rehabilitation counseling to technician status serves as a further example of his narrow perspective. It is disturbing that such a narrow view as Grzesiak's should be presented in a special issue devoted to the psychologist's role in health care. States that the Principles for Education and Training for Organizational Consulting Psychology establish the framework to significantly advance the overall quality of professional preparation in the field. This synopsis provides reflections on the conceptual articles and reaction pieces contained in this special issue of Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research: D. R. Fuqua and J. L. Newman (see record 2003-04049-004), W. B. Johnson (see record 2003-04049-005), S. L. Shullman (see record 2003-04049-006), J. A. Cummings (see record 2003-04049-007), and W. J. Comments on the article by J. S. Swoboda et al (see record 1980-24066-001) and asserts that this article should not have been published in the journal of Professional Psychology. Perry considers the printing of this article to be irresponsible in the damaging effects that it might have on the public's view of psychology as a profession. Perry objects to the suggestion that a significant number of psychologists would ignore or break the law without that suggestion being based upon much better evidence than is contained in this article. While Swoboda et al. are careful to refer to their results as "exploratory" and "suggestions," they nevertheless use these findings as evidence in their discussion of the "negative attitude toward the law" and "ignorance of the law." In addition, Perry asserted that the high refusal rate and the fact that the sample was restricted to eastern Nebraska may indicate a restricted and biased sample. Comments on Leonard Small's article, "Toward Professional Clinical Psychology" (see record 1964-03434-001). This article has to do with students training to be psychologists and how unless they have been "treated", they cannot do effective therapy. The commentator discusses this issue and suggests that the research-based certainty of the value of psychotherapy is at too low a level of confidence to recommend treatment as a requisite of student training. [Correction Notice: An erratum for this article was reported in Vol 31(4) of Professional Psychology: Research and Practice (see record 2007-17397-001). On page 346 in the author note, Louisiana Southern University was given as the university where Tommy T. Stigall received his PhD. The correct university is Louisiana State University.] The authors comment on R. Lowe Hays-Thomas (2000; see record 2000-03894-016). The article begins with a few comments about the master's-degree issue and then examines the evolution of professional psychology in relationship to the master's issue over the past 50 years and into the future. Asserts that J. M. Byrne's (see record 1994-35123-001) comment regarding clinical program accreditation in Canada by the Council of Professional Psychology Programs is inaccurate. The Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs (CCPPP) advocated for Canadian accreditation standards but is not an accrediting body. Clinical psychology doctoral programs and internships are accredited by the Accreditation Panel of the Canadian Psychological Association. CCPPP's functions are described. Comments on the six articles contained in the special issue of the American Psychologist (January 2007) devoted to leadership, written by W. Bennis (see record 2006-23492-002); S. J. Zaccaro (see record 2006-23492-003); V. H. Vroom and A. G. Yago (see record 2006-23492-004); B. J. Avolio (see record 2006-23492-005); R. J. Sternberg (see record 2006-23492-006); and R. J. Hackman and R. Wageman (see record 2006-23492-007). The current authors opine that the inclusion of attachment theory in the study of leadership could strengthen leadership theories as a whole. Comments that J. Yeager's article ("Managing executive performance: The corporate private practice," Professional Psychology, 1982, 13, 587-593, see record 1983-04318-001), on clinicians practicing in corporate settings contained stimulating examinations of several factors affecting mode of operation. The present author adds some observations gleaned from his own experiences. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

To put comments and criticisms raised by G. P. Koocher (see record 1989-38634-001) concerning the screening of psychology licensing examinations for accuracy into a comprehensive perspective, we discuss the process of development, finalization, and administration of the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP). We also address Koocher's objections to five items considered for inclusion in Draft 26 of the EPPP, which was used in April 1987, as well as the issue he raises of content validity, citing the Testing Standards (Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, 1985). Reviews seven books on educational psychology. The first book reviewed is "Educational Psychology," by Glenn M. Blair R. Stewart Jones, and Ray H. Simpson (see record 1954-07938-000). The second book reviewed is "Principles of Educational Psychology," by W.D. Commins, and Barry Fagin (see record 1955-01422-000). The third book reviewed is "Educational Psychology," by Lee J. Cronbach (see record 1954-07941-000). The fourth book reviewed is "Psychology for Modern Education," by James L. Mursell (see record 1953-02945-000). The fifth book reviewed is "Introduction to Educational Psychology," by Clellen L. Morgan, H.H. Remmers, and Einer R. Ryden (see record 1954-08965-000). The sixth book reviewed is "Psychology in Teaching," by Henry P. Smith (see record 1955-01434-000). The last book reviewed is third edition of "Psychology in Education," by Herbert Sorenson (see record 1954-08966-000). Either explicitly or by implication, the authors are saying that the conceptual schemes that now hold the center of the stage in the laboratories are not, in their present stage of development, useful to them as educational psychologists, and that as a result they have had to develop and use others. A recent article by Neville J. King and Robert B. Montgomery, "Biofeedback-Induced Control of Human Peripheral Temperature: A Critical Review of the Literature" (Psychological Bulletin, 1980, Vol. 88, No. 3, pp. 738-752; see record 1981-07368-001), briefly described two studies by A. H. Roberts and his colleagues. These studies were "Voluntary Control of Skin Temperature: Unilateral Changes Using Hypnosis and Feedback" by A. H. Roberts, D. G. Kewman, and H. MacDonald (Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1973, Vol. 82, No. 1, pp. 163-168; see record 1974-04422-001) and "Individual Differences and Autonomic Control: Absorption, Hypnotic Susceptibility, and the Unilateral Control of Skin Temperature" by A. H. Roberts, J. Schuler, J. G. Bacon, R. L. Zimmermann, and R. Patterson (Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1975, Vol. 84, No. 3, pp. 272-279; see record 1975-24689-001). At issue here is a conclusion by King and Montgomery that "The obvious problem associated with the research of Roberts and his colleagues is the confounding of hypnosis and auditory feedback. Thus it is impossible to ascertain to what extent the data [are] due to biofeedback." Although the 1973 study did confound hypnosis and biofeedback, the second study (1975) was designed to unconfound these variables. A brief explanation is published here. [Correction Notice: An erratum for this article was reported in Vol 60(4) of Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research (see record 2008-17523-003). The title of the journal was printed incorrectly on page 257 as "Counseling Psychology Journal: Practice and Research." The correct title of the journal is Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research.] A content analysis of articles published in Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research was performed from 1992 (Vol. 44) through 2007 (Vol. 59). A total of 342 articles were categorized into 21 derived content categories and an "Other" category. Results show that the leading categories for publication were Coaching, Development and Training, and History of Consulting. The content was fairly stable over time. The journal does appear to be meeting its primary mission of disseminating information pertinent to the field of consulting psychology. J. H. Bray's (see record 1995-11196-001) and R. D. Parke's (see record 1995-11204-001) comments on M. A. Fine and L. A. The online version of this article has been corrected.] Responds to the comments by J. C. Coyne and C. Johansen (see record 2011-09497-016) on the current author's original article, "Influence of stressors on breast cancer incidence in the Women's Health Initiative" (see record 2009-03297-001). Coyne and Johansen (2011) took issue with the study conducted by the current authors' group (Michael et al., 2009), which analyzed the interaction between stressful life events and social support on breast cancer risk among 83,334 postmenopausal women enrolled in the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI). While the current authors agree with the Coyne and Johansen that too often null results are difficult to publish due to confirmatory bias that privileges results that support an alternative hypothesis, they strongly disagree with the assertion that their group selectively reported findings, inaccurately reported findings, or provided selective and uncritical reference to the existing literature. ABEPP Status.
This letter is in reference to the article "The Meaning of the ABEPP Diploma" (see record 1962-02007-001) and the comment, "ABEPP Standard Too High?" (American Psychologist, 1961, 16, 655). In response to the Board of Trustees of ABEPP who state that "the ABEPP process has not caught hold," the author of this comment proposes the possibility that psychologists do not desire the American Board of Examiners in Professional Psychology (ABEPP) because it appears that only a small percentage of the Amercan Psychological Association (APA) membership voted on the issue of ABEPP and there has never been any clear endorsement from the majority of the APA membership. The author also discusses the implications of ABEPP and APA's tax exempt status. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Reports an error in the table of contents of the Journal of Counseling Psychology. The article "On Measuring the Vocational Interests of Women" (see record 1973-23974-001) by Nancy S.
