Ergebnisse einer Untersuchung der Gasverteilung über dem Querschnitt einer Füllkörperkolonne

The gas distribution has been investigated over a cross-section of a 472 mm diameter column assembled with two types of inlet devices with and without equalizing packing layer, respectively. The minimum height of Raschig rings, Pall rings, Intalox saddles and four types of horizontal expanded sheet packing, at which a uniform velocity profile can be obtained, was found. It is shown that when applying these packings no increase occurs in the velocity of the nearwall layer.

There is increasing interest worldwide in the decentralized treatment of gray water. Since ground‐level areas are generally costly, gray‐water treatment can also be carried out using helophyte mats on the roofs of buildings as an alternative. Alongside the water treatment itself, this process also has a positive effect on the indoor climate in the building. In a test carried out under realistic conditions, it was shown that a helophyte mat with a root‐layer depth of 0.1 m and with hydraulic loads per unit up to 15 L m^?2d^?1 is suitable for treating typical gray water from a residential building.     

Zukünftige Chancen einer elektrochemischen Kohlenutzung

Future scope of electrochemical coal utilization . Based on fundamental thermodynamic considerations and with due regard to known electrochemical reactions of coal-like substances, the potential of electrochemical coal conversion processes is discussed for the following three main groups of primary products: syngas, aliphatic compounds, and aromatic compounds. Thermal efficiencies and yields are compared with those of competing processes. The indirect electrochemical degradation of coal to soluble aromatic compounds with peroxodisulfate as redox mediator is a promising route of potential interest.
