Chemically modified Oil Palm Ash (OPA)‐filled natural rubber composites were prepared by modifying the functional group of OPA with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) prior to compounding by using laboratory conventional laboratory‐sized two‐roll mills. The functional groups of CTAB‐modified OPA were analyzed by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and compared with those of non‐modified ones. The CTAB‐modified OPA‐filled NR composites showed shorter scorch time and cure time as compared to those of non‐modified OPA, which was attributed to the new functional groups occurred. The tensile test results showed that the OPA‐filled NR composites with CTAB modification exhibit improvement in tensile strength, tensile modulus, and hardness but lower elongation at break as compared to nonmodified ones. The tensile fractured surface of modified OPA filled NR composites revealed the well embedded and better distribution of CTAB‐modified OPA in NR matrix. The toluene uptake was also found to be lower for the modified OPA‐filled NR composites and showed better rubber–filler interaction; it further showed that surface modification with CTAB could compatibilize the OPA particles and NR matrix. Filler‐filled natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates were prepared by conventional laboratory‐sized two roll mills and cured using sulfuric system. The effect of thermal aging on physical properties and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of oil palm ash (OPA) and commercial fillers (i.e., silica vulkasil C and carbon black N330)‐filled NR vulcanizates at respective optimum loading and equal loading were studied. Before aging, the OPA‐filled vulcanizates showed comparable optimum strength as carbon black‐filled vulcanizates. The hardening of aged filler‐filled NR vulcanizates happened after aging, thereby tensile strength and elongation at break reduced while the modulus increased. Fifty phr carbon black‐filled vulcanizates showed better retention in tensile properties as compared to silica (10 phr) and OPA (1 phr). This was attributed to the addition of different filler loading and this finding was further explained when equal loading of filler‐filled vulcanizates was studied. Fourier transform infra‐red analysis showed chemical structure had changed and tensile fractured surface exhibited smooth appearance due to the deterioration in tensile properties after aging. TGA also denoted the thermal stability was depending on the amount of filler loading. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 130: 4474–4481, 2013  相似文献

Cassava starch-filled natural rubber (NR) composites were prepared by using direct blending and co-coagulation method. The effects of two different method and cassava starch loading on morphology, mechanical properties and thermal properties of cassava starch/NR composites were studied. X-ray diffraction results and scanning electron microscopy images proved that co-coagulation method promotes better dispersion of cassava starch than direct blending method. The composites prepared by co-coagulation method exhibited higher values of tensile strength, tear strength, hardness, and thermal stability. The optimum value of tensile strength and tear strength of cassava starch/NR composites were achieved at a 10 phr cassava starch loading.  相似文献

The kinetics of the thermal degradation and thermal stability of conductive silicone rubber filled with conductive carbon black was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis in a flowing nitrogen atmosphere at a heating rate of 5°C/min. The rate parameters were evaluated by the method of Freeman–Carroll. The results show that the thermal degradation of conductive silicone rubber begins at about 350°C and ends at about 600°C. The thermal degradation is multistage, in which zero‐order reactions are principal. The kinetics of the thermal degradation of conductive silicone rubber has relevance to its loading of conductive carbon black. The activation energies are temperature‐sensitive and their sensitivity to temperature becomes weak as temperature increases. In addition, the conductive silicone rubber filled with conductive carbon black has better thermal stability than that of silicone rubber without any fillers. Also, conductive silicone rubber filled with conductive carbon black has better thermal stability than that of silicone rubber filled with the same amount of silica. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nickel zinc ferrite (Ni-ZnFe2O4)-filled natural rubber (NR) composite was prepared at various loading of ferrite. The tensile properties included in this study were tensile strength, tensile modulus and elongation at break. The tensile strength and elongation at break of the composites increased up to 40 parts per hundred rubber (phr) of ferrite and then decreased at higher loading whereas the tensile modulus was increased gradually with increasing of ferrite loading. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to determine the wettability of filler in rubber matrix. From the observation, the increase of filler loading reduced the wettability of the filler. Thermal stability of the composites was conducted by using a thermogravimetry analyser (TGA). The incorporation of ferrite in NR composites enhanced the thermal stability of NR composites. The swelling test results indicate that the swelling percentage of the composites decreased by increasing of ferrite loading. The initial permeability, μi and quality factor, Q of magnetic properties of NR composites achieved maximum value at 60 phr of ferrite loading for frequency range between 5000–40,000 kHz. The maximum impedance, Z max of the NR composites was at the highest value at 80 phr ferrite loading for frequency range between 200–800 MHz.  相似文献

The Tetra-Needle-like zinc oxide whiskers (T-ZnOw) were modified by stearic acid, and Natural rubber/Stearic acid-T-ZnOw medical antibacterial composites were prepared by blending the Stearic acid-T-ZnOw with natural rubber latex. The morphology, mechanical properties, thermal stability, antibacterial property and water absorption of composites were investigated. The results show that the incorpation of Stearic acid-T-ZnOw into rubber matrix leads to a significantly betterment in the over-all properties of composites when the Stearic acid-T-ZnOw loading is less than 6%. The Stearic acid-T-ZnOw act as a skeleton in the rubber matrix, with its tetra-needles tightly inserting into rubber matrix. It plays an important role in improving the performance of natural rubber. When in nitrogen atmosphere loading of 5 wt%, all the performance of composite achieve optimum results. The Natural rubber/Stearic acid-T-ZnOw has great prospects in producing medical products with greens environmental protection and high performance.  相似文献

Biocomposites of styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) reinforced with silane-treated peanut shell powder (SPSP) of different filler loadings and particle sizes were prepared by two roll mixing mills with sulfur as a vulcanizing agent. The cure characteristics of composites were studied, and they vulcanized at 160 °C. Test samples were prepared by compression moulding, and their physicomechanical properties, such as tensile strength tear strength, modulus, hardness, and abrasion resistance of SBR vulcanizates, were studied with filler loading 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 parts per hundred rubber (phr). Composites with 10 phr filler having small particle size exhibited better properties. The interfacial adhesion between filler and matrix has a major role in the properties of composites. Surface modification of PSP was done by silane coupling agent to improve the interfacial adhesion and it characterised by FTIR, XRD, TGA, UV, and SEM. Better properties are shown by the composites with SPSP. Thermal stability of the composites was also determined using thermogravimetric analysis.  相似文献

Natural rubber latex and various concentration of natural antioxidant were blended in different ratios and irradiated at various absorbed doses by gamma rays from Co-60 source at room temperature. The aqueous extraction of Diospyros peregrina was used as natural antioxidant. It was found that the addition of different concentration of natural antioxidant into natural rubber latex improve the aging property of the film. Decreasing in tensile strength of rubber film with 10 phr natural antioxidant and 15 kGy radiation dose after 24 hours aging at 100°C was 9.34% compared to 13.89% for film without natural antioxidant. The tensile strength, tear resistance and modulus at 500% elongation of the rubber film were found to be optimum at 15 kGy radiation dose and with 10 phr natural antioxidant. Elongation at break, permanent set and swelling ratio decreases with the increasing absorbed radiation dose as well as the concentration of the natural antioxidant.  相似文献

Graphite fiber reinforced poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) and graphite fiber reinforced bismaleimide (BMI) composite materials are two kinds of advanced fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites with good thermal stability and excellent mechanical properties at high temperature. They are currently receiving considerable attention. the main limitation on their application is the lack of knowledge regarding their behaviors during extended use at high temperature. Thermal aging properties are the main parameters for new polymer matrix composites that will be used in advanced spacecraft structural components. From the results of thermal aging effects on the properties—including interlaminar shear strength, drop-weight impact strength, and impact energy—of graphite/PEEK and graphite/BMI composites, it is found that unidirectional graphite fiber reinforced composites retain higher strength compared to multidirectional, and that multidirectional graphite/PEEK composites keep higher property retentions than multidirectional graphite/BMI composites after thermal aging at 190°C. From scanning electron photomicrographs, it is also found that graphite/PEEK composites have better fiber/resin adhesion, intraply adhesion, and microcrack resistance compared to graphite/BMI composites after thermal aging.  相似文献

Natural rubber composites were prepared by the incorporation of palm ash at different loadings into a natural rubber matrix with a laboratory‐size two‐roll mill (160 × 320 mm2) maintained at 70 ± 5°C in accordance with the method described by ASTM D 3184–89. A coupling agent, maleated natural rubber (MANR), was used to improve the mechanical properties of the natural rubber composites. The results indicated that the scorch time and cure time decreased with increasing filler loading, whereas the maximum torque exhibited an increasing trend. Increasing the palm ash loading increased the tensile modulus, but the tensile strength, fatigue life, and elongation at break decreased. The rubber–filler interactions of the composites decreased with increasing filler loading. Scanning electron microscopy of the tensile fracture surfaces of the composites and rubber–filler interaction studies showed that the presence of MANR enhanced the interfacial interaction of the palm ash filler and natural rubber matrix. The presence of MANR also enhanced the tensile properties and fatigue life of palm‐ash‐filled natural rubber composites. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

Hollow glass microbead/silicone rubber composite coatings were prepared to improve the heat-resistance and mechanical properties of silicone rubber-based composites, using CE modified SR as the matrix and HGM as the filler. The microscopic morphology and thermal stability of the composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), respectively. The results showed that the thermal stability of the composites increases with the increase of filler content. For the composite sample with a HGM mass content of 16.7%, the initial decomposition temperature (T5) is 408°C, which is 84°C higher than that of silicone rubber. The low density and high sphericity of HGM make it easier to uniformly disperse in the polymer matrix. In addition, compared to silica, which is commonly used as an inorganic filler, the lower thermal conductivity of HGM is also beneficial for achieving better thermal shielding effect. It is confirmed that the insufficient thermal stability of the polymer matrix above 400°C can be compensated for by the properly dispersed inorganic fillers. Therefore, the thermal stability of the composite is improved by the synergistic effect of modified heat-resistant matrix and inorganic filler.  相似文献

The mechanical properties, flame retardancy, hot‐air ageing, and hot‐oil ageing resistance of ethylene‐vinyl acetate rubber (EVM)/hydrogenated nitrile‐butadiene rubber (HNBR)/magnesium hydroxide (MH) composites were studied. With increasing HNBR fraction, elongation at break and tear strength of the EVM/HNBR/MH composites increased, whereas the limited oxygen index and Shore A hardness decreased slightly. Hot‐air ageing resistance and hot‐oil ageing resistance of the composites became better with increasing HNBR fraction. Thermal gravimetric analysis results demonstrated that the presence of MH and low HNBR fraction could improve the thermal stability of the composites. Differential scanning calorimeter revealed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the composites shifted toward low temperatures with increasing HNBR fraction, which was also confirmed by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. Atomic force microscope images showed MH has a small particle size and good dispersion in the composites with high HNBR fraction. The flame retardancy, extremely good hot‐oil ageing, and hot‐air ageing resistance combined with good mechanical properties performance in a wide temperature range (?30°C to 150°C) make the EVM/HNBR/MH composites ideal for cables application. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) or polyethylene acrylic acid (PEA) as a compatibilizer on properties of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/natural rubber (SMR L) blends was studied. 5 wt.% of compatibilizer was employed in EVA/SMR L blend and the effect of compatibilizer on tensile properties, thermal properties, swelling resistance, and morphological properties were investigated. Blends were prepared by using a laboratory scale of internal mixer at 120°C with 50 rpm of rotor speed. Tensile properties, thermal properties, thermo-oxidative aging resistance, and oil swell resistance were determined according to related ASTM standards. The compatibility of EVA/SMR L blends with 5 wt.% of compatibilizer addition or without compatibilizing agent was compared. The EVA/SMR L blend with compatibilizer shows substantially improvement in tensile properties compared to the EVA/SMR L blend without compatibilizer. Compatibilization had reduced interfacial tension and domain size of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/natural rubber (SMR L) blends.  相似文献

Thermoplastic elastomer composites of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/natural rubber (NR) blends filled with palm ash were prepared by melt-mixing using a Haake Rheomix Polydrive R600/610 at 120°C with rotor speed of 50 rpm for 10 minutes. Increase in palm ash loading in composites resulted in increase the value of stabilization toque, Young's modulus and swelling resistance of the composites, but decreased the tensile strength and elongation at break. Scanning electron microscope micrographs revealed that higher filler loading resulted in agglomeration of palm ash in the composites. When smaller particle size of palm ash was used, further improvement in tensile strength, elongation at break, swelling resistance and stabilization torque value were observed.  相似文献

The kenaf core powder (KCP) has been treated with benzoyl chloride (BC) in poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC)/epoxidized natural rubber (ENR)/KCP composites. The presence of BC grafted on KCP was evident by infrared analysis. PVC/ENR/KCP samples were prepared using Haake Polydrive with the temperature of 140°C and KCP loading of 5, 10, 15, and 20?phr. The processing, tensile and thermal properties of the composites were investigated. The enhancement of tensile properties showed that the treatment improved the interfacial adhesion between KCP with PVC/ENR matrix. Higher glass transition temperature and higher thermal stability after treatment with BC support the enhancement of the composites’ tensile properties.  相似文献

This article dealt with the relationship between mechanical properties and crosslinked networks of natural rubber (NR) reinforced by zinc dimethacrylate (ZDMA) after thermal aging. After thermal aging at the present experimental conditions, the covalent crosslink density showed a decrease all the time, whereas the ionic crosslink density was stable at 80°C but decreased at a higher temperature. The decrease in the total crosslink density after aging indicates the degradation of the crosslinked network. However, an experimental phenomenon observed was that the tensile strength and tear strength increased in a certain degree after aging at 80°C or at a 100°C for a short time. In addition, the thermal stability of the NR/ZDMA composite was evaluated by thermal gravimetric analysis. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

Zinc methacrylate (ZMA) and carbon black (CB) are incorporated into natural rubber/butadiene rubber matrix by direct mixing in a Banbury mixer. Tensile and tear tests showed that CB has a great reinforcing effect on rubber matrix. The results show that the amount of ZMA also plays an important role in mechanical properties. The addition of ZMA resulted in a significant increase of the optimum cure time even at lower loading. Incorporation of ZMA improved mechanical properties, such as tensile modulus and cure reinforcing parameter. The extraordinary improvement in properties is due to the formation of covalent and ionic crosslink. The composite containing only CB shows higher elongation at break, superior tensile strength, and tear strength than ZMA‐filled composites. Reinforcing effect of different composites has also been evaluated using different theoretical model. It has been observed that blowout time became slower and blowout temperature became higher as the ZMA content of the specimen increased. This represents multiple interactions between ZMA and rubber matrix. On the basis of the experimental results, possible mechanisms for reinforcement and microstructure of ZMA/rubber composites have been proposed. Both ZMA and CB provide better thermal stability especially for the composites, where the highest reinforcement effect is observed by mechanical analysis. POLYM. Halloysite nanotube (HNT) was etched by hydrochloric acid, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) was loaded into the etched HNT (HH) to prepare loaded antioxidant (HH-E) for polylactic acid (PLA) with improved thermal-oxidative stability. The loading process was confirmed by TGA and FT-IR, and the loading capacity was 16.15%. The presence of EGCG on the surface of etched HNT was further confirmed by nitrogen adsorption and TEM. The effect of loaded EGCG on thermal-oxidative stability of PLA was characterized by the change in OOT values of PLA after the aging process under 140°C. The results showed that HH-E increased OOT values of PLA from 231.2°C to 293.6°C at first, indicating that HH-E provided PLA with excellent thermal-oxidative stability. Furthermore, as can be seen from the trend of OOT changing over aging time, during the 14 days aging process, OOT values of PLA composites with HH-E decreased more slowly than that of PLA composites with EGCG alone, endowing PLA with sustainable thermal-oxidative stability. Further kinetic analysis showed that the apparent activation energy of the degradation process (Ea) of PLA composites with HH-E changed less than that of PLA composites with EGCG alone, which showed that the loading system provided PLA better sustainable stability. Moreover, the isothermal crystallization process of modified PLA was characterized by DSC and POM. The results showed that HH-E provided heterogeneous crystal nucleus for PLA, reducing the half crystallization time (t0.5) and improvement of crystallization rate for PLA. These results prove that HH-E exhibited excellent performance in improving the thermal stability and crystallization property of PLA, showing multifunctional characterization.  相似文献
