For decades, brain–computer interfaces (BCIs) have been used for restoring the communication and mobility of disabled people through applications such as spellers, web browsers, and wheelchair controls. In parallel to advances in computational intelligence and the production of consumer BCI products, BCIs have recently started to be considered as alternative modalities in human–computer interaction (HCI). One of the popular topics in HCI is multimodal interaction (MMI), which deals with combining multiple modalities in order to provide powerful, flexible, adaptable, and natural interfaces. This article discusses the situation of BCI as a modality within MMI research. State-of-the-art, real-time multimodal BCI applications are surveyed in order to demonstrate how BCI can be helpful as a modality in MMI. It is shown that multimodal use of BCIs can improve error handling, task performance, and user experience and that they can broaden the user spectrum. The techniques for employing BCI in MMI are described, and the experimental and technical challenges with some guidelines to overcome these are shown. Issues in input fusion, output fission, integration architectures, and data collection are covered. 相似文献

In this paper, we describe a user study evaluating the usability of an augmented reality (AR) multimodal interface (MMI). We have developed an AR MMI that combines free-hand gesture and speech input in a natural way using a multimodal fusion architecture. We describe the system architecture and present a study exploring the usability of the AR MMI compared with speech-only and 3D-hand-gesture-only interaction conditions. The interface was used in an AR application for selecting 3D virtual objects and changing their shape and color. For each interface condition, we measured task completion time, the number of user and system errors, and user satisfactions. We found that the MMI was more usable than the gesture-only interface conditions, and users felt that the MMI was more satisfying to use than the speech-only interface conditions; however, it was neither more effective nor more efficient than the speech-only interface. We discuss the implications of this research for designing AR MMI and outline directions for future work. The findings could also be used to help develop MMIs for a wider range of AR applications, for example, in AR navigation tasks, mobile AR interfaces, or AR game applications. 相似文献

根据多模干涉(MMI)技术和波分复用原理,设计并研制出应用于波分复用系统的1×4钛扩散铌酸锂(Ti:LiNbO3/LiNbO3)多模干涉耦合器.对MMI耦合器进行了理论研究和设计计算,完成了结构参数的优化设计、特性参数(损耗,分光比)的计算和实验验证,并与常规的M-Z型耦合器进行了对比.设计出的1×4MMI耦合器的长度为6 mm,损耗为1.4 dB,而使用三个M-Z型耦合器构成1×4耦合器,总长度为60 mm,总损耗为1.5 dB;因此,采用MMI耦合器,具有结构紧凑、损耗低、工艺简单、容差性好等一系列独特的优点. 相似文献

The current method of extracting new login sentiment words not only ignores the diversity of patterns constituted by new multi-character words (the number
of words is greater than two), but also disregards the influence of other new words co-occurring with a new word connoting sentiment. To solve this
problem, this paper proposes a method for extracting new login sentiment words from Chinese micro-blog based on improved mutual information. First,
micro-blog data are preprocessed, taking into consideration some nonsense signals such as web links and punctuation. Based on preprocessed data, the
candidate strings are obtained by applying the N-gram segmentation method. Then, the extraction algorithm for new login words is proposed, which
combines multi-character mutual information (MMI) and left and right adjacent entropy. In this algorithm, the MMI describes the internal cohesion of the
candidate string of multiple words in a variety of constituted patterns. Then, the candidate strings are extended and filtered according to frequency, MMI,
and right and left adjacency entropy, to extract new login words. Finally, the algorithm for the extraction of new login sentiment words is proposed. In this
algorithm, the Sentiment Similarity between words (SW) is determined in order to measure the sentiment similarity of a new login word to other sentiment
words and other new login sentiment words. Then, the sentiment tendency values of new login words are obtained by calculating the SW to extract new
login sentiment words. Experimental results show that this method is very effective for the extraction of new login sentiment words. 相似文献
