Regions-of-Interest and Spatial Layout for Content-Based Image Retrieval   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
To date most content-based image retrieval (CBIR) techniques rely on global attributes such as color or texture histograms which tend to ignore the spatial composition of the image. In this paper, we present an alternative image retrieval system based on the principle that it is the user who is most qualified to specify the query content and not the computer. With our system, the user can select multiple regions-of-interest and can specify the relevance of their spatial layout in the retrieval process. We also derive similarity bounds on histogram distances for pruning the database search. This experimental system was found to be superior to global indexing techniques as measured by statistical sampling of multiple users' satisfaction ratings.  相似文献

Unification algorithms have been constructed for semigroups and commutative semigroups. This paper considers the intermediate case of partially commutative semigroups. We introduce classesN and of such semigroups and justify their use. We present an equation-solving algorithm for any member of the classN. This algorithm is relative to having an algorithm to determine all non-negative solutions of a certain class of diophantine equations of degree 2 which we call -equations. The difficulties arising when attempting to solve equations in members of the class are discussed, and we present arguments that strongly suggest that unification in these semigroups is undecidable.  相似文献

The postal network is an interconnection network that possesses many desirable properties in networking applications. It includes hypercubes and Fibonacci cubes as its special cases. Basically, the postal network forms a series (with series number ) that is based on the sequence N (n)=N (n–1)+N (n–), where n is the dimension and N (n) represents the number of nodes in an n-dimensional postal network in series . In this paper, we study topological properties of postal networks and relationships between different postal networks. One application of postal networks is also shown in implementing barrier synchronization using a special spanning tree called a postal tree. The postal network can also be considered as a flexible version of the hypercube by relaxing the restriction on the number of nodes, and hence, makes it possible to construct multicomputers with arbitrary sizes.  相似文献

We prove that in anyN-node communication network with maximum degreed, any deterministic oblivious algorithm for routing an arbitrary permutation requires (N/d) parallel communication steps in the worst case. This is an improvement upon the (N/d 3/2) bound obtained by Borodin and Hopcroft. For theN-node hypercube, in particular, we show a matching upper bound by exhibiting a deterministic oblivious algorithm that routes any permutation in (N/logN) steps. We develop a theory of communication within branching programs that provides exponential lower bounds on the size of branching programs that are bounded alternating. Our theory is based on the algebraic concept of -branching programs, : , a semiring homomorphism, that generalizes ordinary branching programs, -branching programs [M2] andMOD p-branching programs [DKMW].Due to certain exponential lower and polynomial upper bounds on the size of bounded alternating -branching programs we are able to separate the corresponding complexity classesN ba ,co-N ba ba , andMOD p - ba ,p prime, from each other, and from that classes corresponding to oblivious linear length-bounded branching programs investigated in the past.  相似文献

A solution to the N-bit parity problem employing a single multiplicative neuron model, called translated multiplicative neuron ( t -neuron), is proposed. The t -neuron presents the following advantages: (a) N1, only 1 t -neuron is necessary, with a threshold activation function and parameters defined within a specific interval; (b) no learning procedures are required; and (c) the computational cost is the same as the one associated with a simple McCulloch-Pitts neuron. Therefore, the t -neuron solution to the N-bit parity problem has the lowest computational cost among the neural solutions presented to date.  相似文献

In this paper we show, for the first time, how Radial Basis Function (RBF) network techniques can be used to explore questions surrounding authorship of historic documents. The paper illustrates the technical and practical aspects of RBF's, using data extracted from works written in the early 17th century by William Shakespeare and his contemporary John Fletcher. We also present benchmark comparisons with other standard techniques for contrast and comparison.David Lowe is Professor of Neural Computing at Aston University, UK. In this paper, we investigate the numerical solution of a model equation u xx = exp(– ) (and several slightly more general problems) when 1 using the standard central difference scheme on nonuniform grids. In particular, we are interested in the error behaviour in two limiting cases: (i) the total mesh point number N is fixed when the regularization parameter 0, and (ii) is fixed when N. Using a formal analysis, we show that a generalized version of a special piecewise uniform mesh 12 and an adaptive grid based on the equidistribution principle share some common features. And the optimal meshes give rates of convergence bounded by |log()| as 0 and N is given, which are shown to be sharp by numerical tests.  相似文献

We study equations of the form (=x) which are single axioms for group theory. Earlier examples of such were found by Neumann and McCune. We prove some lower bounds on the complexity of these , showing that McCune's examples are the shortest possible. We also show that no such can have only two distinct variables. We do produce an with only three distinct variables, refuting a conjecture of Neumann. Automated reasoning techniques are used both positively (searching for and verifying single axioms) and negatively (proving that various candidate (=x) hold in some nongroup and are, hence, not single axioms).  相似文献

We consider the deterministic and the randomized decision tree complexities for Boolean functions, denotedDC(f) andRC(f), respectively. A major open problem is how smallRC(f) can be with respect toDC(f). It is well known thatRC(f)DC(f) 0.5 for every Boolean functionf (called 0.5-exponent). On the other hand, some Boolean functionf is known to haveRC(f) = (DC(f))0.753...) (or 0.753...-exponent). It is not known whether there is a Boolean function with exponent smaller than 0.753... Likewise, no lower bound for arbitrary Boolean functions with exponent greater than 0.5 is known.Our result is a 0.51 lower bound on the exponent for everyread-once function. Read-once means that each input variable appears exactly once in the Boolean formula representing the function. To obtain this result we generalize an existing lower bound technique and combine it with restriction arguments. This result provides a lower bound ofn 0.51 on the number of positions that have to be evaluated by any randomized - pruning algorithm computing the value of any two-person zero-sum game tree withn final positions.  相似文献

An optimalO(log logn)-time CRCW-PRAM algorithm for computing all period lengths of a string is presented. Previous parallel algorithms compute the period only if it is shorter than half of the length of the string. The algorithm can be used to find all initial palindromes of a string in the same time and processor bounds. Both algorithms are the fastest possible over a general alphabet. We derive a lower bound for finding initial palindromes by modifying a known lower bound for finding the period length of a string [9]. Whenp processors are available the bounds become (n/p+log1+p/n2p).This work was partially supported by NSF Grant CCR-90-14605. D. In this paper, we consider the linear interval tolerance problem, which consists of finding the largest interval vector included in ([A], [b]) = {x R n | A [A], b [b], Ax = b}. We describe two different polyhedrons that represent subsets of all possible interval vectors in ([A], [b]), and we provide a new definition of the optimality of an interval vector included in ([A], [b]). Finally, we show how the Simplex algorithm can be applied to find an optimal interval vector in ([A], [b]).  相似文献

The initial five papers of this series on pattern perception treat first, the perception of pitch in musical contexts and then, the perception of timbre and speech. Each sound is considered to be embedded in a context consisting of those sounds which surround it or coincide with it. The apprehension of a musical pattern depends upon the perceptibility of certain relations between, and properties of, its parts (e.g. motifA is similar to motifB or G is the tonic). It is hypothesized that, because of the limitations of short term memory, the perception of specific relations and properties requires that certain mental reference frames be extracted from the various contexts. However, a reference frame which supports the perception of any specified relation may be extracted from only very few of all possible contexts. The choices of musical materials in both Western and non-Western music are shown to avoid precisely such difficulties. When they are not avoided, distortions of perception are predicted and methods for experimental verification are suggested. This theory is then applied to suggest new materials for the composition of both microtonal and tonecolor music. This is done in a manner which exposes the correspondence between each choice of musical materials and those musical properties and relations whose perception is (or is not) thereby supported.This first paper discusses the relation between the ability to perceive relative sizes of musical intervals and the choice of reference frame from a given musical context.  相似文献

Mutual convertibility of bound entangled states under local quantum operations and classical communication (LOCC) is studied. We focus on states associated with unextendible product bases (UPB) in a system of three qubits. A complete classification of such UPBs is suggested. We prove that for any pair of UPBs S and T the associated bound entangled states S and T cannot be converted to each other by LOCC, unless S and T coincide up to local unitaries. We analyze four nce Memed novels of Yaar Kemal using six style markers: most frequent words, syllable counts, word type – or part of speech – information, sentence length in terms of words, word length in text, and word length in vocabulary. For analysis we divide each novel into five thousand word text blocks and count the frequencies of each style marker in these blocks. The style markers showing the best separation are most frequent words and sentence lengths. We use stepwise discriminant analysis to determine the best discriminators of each style marker. We then use these markers in cross validation based discriminant analysis. Further investigation based on multiple analysis of variance (MANOVA) reveals how the attributes of each style marker group distinguish among the volumes.  相似文献

The language of standard propositional modal logic has one operator ( or ), that can be thought of as being determined by the quantifiers or , respectively: for example, a formula of the form is true at a point s just in case all the immediate successors of s verify .This paper uses a propositional modal language with one operator determined by a generalized quantifier to discuss a simple connection between standard invariance conditions on modal formulas and generalized quantifiers: the combined generalized quantifier conditions of conservativity and extension correspond to the modal condition of invariance under generated submodels, and the modal condition of invariance under bisimulations corresponds to the generalized quantifier being a Boolean combination of and .  相似文献
