We develop a formalism called a distributed constraint satisfaction problem (distributed CSP) and algorithms for solving distributed CSPs. A distributed CSP is a constraint satisfaction problem in which variables and constraints are distributed among multiple agents. Various application problems in distributed artificial intelligence can be formalized as distributed CSPs. We present our newly developed technique called asynchronous backtracking that allows agents to act asynchronously and concurrently without any global control, while guaranteeing the completeness of the algorithm. Furthermore, we describe how the asynchronous backtracking algorithm can be modified into a more efficient algorithm called an asynchronous weak-commitment search, which can revise a bad decision without exhaustive search by changing the priority order of agents dynamically. The experimental results on various example problems show that the asynchronous weak-commitment search algorithm is, by far more, efficient than the asynchronous backtracking algorithm and can solve fairly large-scale problems  相似文献

近年来,随着网络技术的快速发展和广泛应用,人工智能领域中的诸多问题,如时序安排、计划编制、资源分配等,越来越多地以分布形式出现,从而形成一类多主体系统.相应地,求解该类问题的传统约束满足问题也发展为分布式约束满足问题,分布式约束满足已经成为多主体系统求解的一般框架.首先,简要介绍了分布式约束满足问题的基本概念,总结了该问题的基本算法及其改进算法,并对这些算法的效率和性能进行了比较分析.然后,讨论了近年来分布式约束满足问题的若干典型应用;最后,给出了分布式约束满足问题基本形式的扩展和今后的研究方向.分布式约束满足问题最新研究进展表明:今后的工作将着重于面向现实问题求解的理论研究,为实际应用提供坚实的理论基础.  相似文献

The paper focuses on evaluating constraint satisfaction search algorithms on application based random problem instances. The application we use is a well-studied problem in the electric power industry: optimally scheduling preventive maintenance of power generating units within a power plant. We show how these scheduling problems can be cast as constraint satisfaction problems and used to define the structure of randomly generated non-binary CSPs. The random problem instances are then used to evaluate several previously studied algorithms. The paper also demonstrates how constraint satisfaction can be used for optimization tasks. To find an optimal maintenance schedule, a series of CSPs are solved with successively tighter cost-bound constraints. We introduce and experiment with an “iterative learning” algorithm which records additional constraints uncovered during search. The constraints recorded during the solution of one instance with a certain cost-bound are used again on subsequent instances having tighter cost-bounds. Our results show that on a class of randomly generated maintenance scheduling problems, iterative learning reduces the time required to find a good schedule. Distributed constraint satisfaction problems (DisCSPs) are composed of agents, each holding its own variables, that are connected by constraints to variables of other agents. Due to the distributed nature of the problem, message delay can have unexpected effects on the behavior of distributed search algorithms on DisCSPs. This has been recently shown in experimental studies of asynchronous backtracking algorithms (Bejar et al., Artif. Intell., 161:117–148, 2005; Silaghi and Faltings, Artif. Intell., 161:25–54, 2005). To evaluate the impact of message delay on the run of DisCSP search algorithms, a model for distributed performance measures is presented. The model counts the number of non concurrent constraints checks, to arrive at a solution, as a non concurrent measure of distributed computation. A simpler version measures distributed computation cost by the non-concurrent number of steps of computation. An algorithm for computing these distributed measures of computational effort is described. The realization of the model for measuring performance of distributed search algorithms is a simulator which includes the cost of message delays. Two families of distributed search algorithms on DisCSPs are investigated. Algorithms that run a single search process, and multiple search processes algorithms. The two families of algorithms are described and associated with existing algorithms. The performance of three representative algorithms of these two families is measured on randomly generated instances of DisCSPs with delayed messages. The delay of messages is found to have a strong negative effect on single search process algorithms, whether synchronous or asynchronous. Multi search process algorithms, on the other hand, are affected very lightly by message delay.  相似文献

We describe a simple CSP formalism for handling multi-attribute preference problems with hard constraints, one that combines hard constraints and preferences so the two are easily distinguished conceptually and for purposes of problem solving. Preferences are represented as a lexicographic order over complete assignments based on variable importance and rankings of values in each domain. Feasibility constraints are treated in the usual manner. Since the preference representation is ordinal in character, these problems can be solved with algorithms that do not require evaluations to be represented explicitly. This includes ordinary CSP algorithms, although these cannot stop searching until all solutions have been checked, with the important exception of heuristics that follow the preference order (lexical variable and value ordering). We describe relations between lexicographic CSPs and more general soft constraint formalisms and show how a full lexicographic ordering can be expressed in the latter. We discuss relations with (T)CP-nets, highlighting the advantages of the present formulation, and we discuss the use of lexicographic ordering in multiobjective optimisation. We also consider strengths and limitations of this form of representation with respect to expressiveness and usability. We then show how the simple structure of lexicographic CSPs can support specialised algorithms: a branch and bound algorithm with an implicit cost function, and an iterative algorithm that obtains optimal values for successive variables in the importance ordering, both of which can be combined with appropriate variable ordering heuristics to improve performance. We show experimentally that with these procedures a variety of problems can be solved efficiently, including some for which the basic lexically ordered search is infeasible in practice.  相似文献

Recently, the areas of planning and scheduling in artificial intelligence (AI) have witnessed a big push toward their integration in order to solve complex problems. These problems require both reasoning on which actions are to be performed as well as their precedence constraints (planning) and the reasoning with respect to temporal constraints (e.g., duration, precedence, and deadline); those actions should satisfy the resources they use (scheduling). This paper describes IPSS (integrated planning and scheduling system), a domain independent solver that integrates an AI planner that synthesizes courses of actions with constraint-based techniques that reason based upon time and resources. IPSS is able to manage not only simple precedence constraints, but also more complex temporal requirements (as the Allen primitives) and multicapacity resource usage/consumption. The solver is evaluated against a set of problems characterized by the use of multiple agents (or multiple resources) that have to perform tasks with some temporal restrictions in the order of the tasks or some constraints in the availability of the resources. Experiments show how the integrated reasoning approach improves plan parallelism and gains better makespans than some state-of-the-art planners where multiple agents are represented as additional fluents in the problem operators. It also shows that IPSS is suitable for solving real domains (i.e., workflow problems) because it is able to impose temporal windows on the goals or set a maximum makespan, features that most of the planners do not yet incorporate  相似文献

Many real problems can be naturally modelled as constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs). However, some of these problems are of a distributed nature, which requires problems of this kind to be modelled as distributed constraint satisfaction problems (DCSPs). In this work, we present a distributed model for solving CSPs. Our technique carries out a partition over the constraint network using a graph partitioning software; after partitioning, each sub-CSP is arranged into a DFS-tree CSP structure that is used as a hierarchy of communication by our distributed algorithm. We show that our distributed algorithm outperforms well-known centralized algorithms solving partitionable CSPs.  相似文献

车间调度是智能制造领域中的核心问题之一, 在经典流水车间调度中, 所有工件按照相同的加工顺序在指 定机床上加工. 混合流水车间调度(HFS)作为流水车间调度的特例, 相比前者增加了机床选择的灵活性, 可以显著 优化系统目标, 但同时也增加了问题求解的难度. 由于时间约束HFS相比基本HFS问题更贴近实际生产过程, 近年 来, 综合考虑各类时间相关约束的HFS问题得到了深入研究. 因此, 本文围绕基本HFS、有限等待时间HFS、带准备 时间HFS、模糊/随机加工时间HFS、多时间约束HFS、时间约束相关多目标HFS等问题开展研究. 针对每一类时间 约束HFS问题, 按照问题规模对当前研究成果进行分类描述, 按照确定性算法、启发式方法、元启发式方法、算法混 合对相关成果进行算法分类, 按照实际工业应用对文献进行归类分析. 另一方面, 围绕交货期、能耗、成本等3类性 能指标, 分析了在各类时间约束HFS问题中的多目标优化相关成果. 最后详细分析了带时间约束HFS问题在问题层 面、算法层面和应用层面存在的挑战性问题和未来研究的方向.  相似文献

Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) have been applied to many optimization problems successfully in recent years. The genetic algorithm (GAs) and evolutionary programming (EP) are two different types of EAs. GAs use crossover as the primary search operator and mutation as a background operator, while EP uses mutation as the primary search operator and does not employ any crossover. This paper proposes a novel EP algorithm for cutting stock problems with and without contiguity. Two new mutation operators are proposed. Experimental studies have been carried out to examine the effectiveness of the EP algorithm. They show that EP can provide a simple yet more effective alternative to GAs in solving cutting stock problems with and without contiguity. The solutions found by EP are significantly better (in most cases) than or comparable to those found by GAs.Scope and purposeThe one-dimensional cutting stock problem (CSP) is one of the classical combinatorial optimization problems. While most previous work only considered minimizing trim loss, this paper considers CSPs with two objectives. One is the minimization of trim loss (i.e., wastage). The other is the minimization of the number of stocks with wastage, or the number of partially finished items (pattern sequencing or contiguity problem). Although some traditional OR techniques (e.g., programming based approaches) can find the global optimum for small CSPs, they are impractical to find the exact global optimum for large problems due to combinatorial explosion. Heuristic techniques (such as various hill-climbing algorithms) need to be used for large CSPs. One of the heuristic algorithms which have been applied to CSPs recently with success is the genetic algorithm (GA). This paper proposes a much simpler evolutionary algorithm than the GA, based on evolutionary programming (EP). The EP algorithm has been shown to perform significantly better than the GA for most benchmark problems we used and to be comparable to the GA for other problems.  相似文献

Recently, Choi et al. designed the first practical full-duplex wireless system, which challenges the basic assumption in wireless communications that a radio cannot transmit and receive on the same frequency at the same time. In this paper, we study cross-layer optimization for full-duplex wireless networks, comprehensively considering various resource and social constraints. We focus on (1) the problem of allocating resources to maximize the total profit of multiple users subject to node constraints and (2) the problem of allocating resources to minimize the network power consumption subject to user rate demands and node constraints. We formulate these problems as convex programming systems. By combining Lagrangian decomposition and subgradient methods, we design distributed iterative algorithms to solve these problems, which compute the optimized user information flow (i.e. user behavior) for the network layer and the optimized node broadcast rate (i.e. node behavior) for the MAC layer. Our algorithms allow each user and each node to adjust its own behavior individually in each iteration. We analyze the convergence rate, the amount of feasibility violation, and the gap between the optimal solution and our solution in each iteration. We also use the dual space information to analyze node load constraint violation.  相似文献
