In milling around corners, cutting resistance rises momentarily due to an increase of cutter contact length. NC tool path generation in dealing with sharp corners thus requires special consideration. This paper describes an improved NC tool path pattern for pocket milling. The basic pattern of the improved tool path is a conventional contour-parallel tool path. Bow-like tool path segments are appended to the basic tool path at the corner positions. When reaching a corner, the cutter loops around the appended tool path segments so that corner material is removed progressively in several passes. By using the corner-looping based tool path, cutter contact length can be controlled by adjusting the number of appended tool path loops. The procedures of creating the improved tool path for different corner shapes are explained. The proposed tool path generation was implemented as an add-on user function in a CAD/CAM system. Cutting tests were conducted to demonstrate and verify the significance of the proposed method. 相似文献

Recently, there has been a growth of interest in high-precision machining in multi-axis feed drive systems, which are subject to problems such as friction, cutting force and incompatibility of individual driving axis dynamics. Tracking errors in an individual driving axis during five-axis machining result in tool tip contour error and tool orientation contour error. Based on the conventional definition of the tool orientation contour error, that is, it is the deviation in the normal direction from the desired orientation in spherical coordinates, even if the tool tip and tool orientation contour errors are very small, a mismatch between the tool tip position and tool orientation causes an overcut or undercut when these errors are treated independently. To address this problem of mismatch, this paper presents a new definition of the actual tool orientation contour error. This definition considers synchronization between the tool tip and tool orientation contour errors. In addition, we propose an estimation model for the tool orientation contour error. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model provides a better indication of the actual tool orientation contour error than the conventional definition. 相似文献

Milling using a sequence of tools has become very attractive with the advent of rapid tool change mechanisms in modern CNC
machines. However, the commercial CAM systems used to generate G&M code rely on experienced process planners to select a good
tool sequence. When a tool sequence is selected and tool paths are generated, NC-verify systems are used to check the tool
paths for tool holder collisions. If tool holder collisions are detected, the part has to be re-planned ab-initio. In this
paper, we describe a method to select an optimal tool sequence by formulating the problem under certain assumptions as the
shortest path solution to a single source directed acyclic graph. Also described is a method to incorporate tool holder solution
in the context of selecting an optimal tool sequence. Examples have been worked out to illustrate the workings of the algorithm.

Tool chains have grown from ad-hoc solutions to complex software systems, which often have a service-oriented architecture. With service-oriented tool integration, development tools are made available as services, which can be orchestrated to form tool chains. Due to the increasing sophistication and size of tool chains, there is a need for a systematic development approach for service-oriented tool chains. We propose a domain-specific modeling language (DSML) that allows us to describe the tool chain on an appropriate level of abstraction. We present how this language supports three activities when developing service-oriented tool chains: communication, design and realization. A generative approach supports the realization of the tool chain using the service component architecture. We present experiences from an industrial case study, which applies the DSML to support the creation of a service-oriented tool chain. We evaluate the approach both qualitatively and quantitatively by comparing it with a traditional development approach. 相似文献

Product assembly design is a complex activity involving collaboration between several designers. Currently, many manufacturing firms out source the design and development of different portions of a product to different suppliers. Due to the absence of an integrated tool for collaborative product assembly design, designers currently follow an indirect approach. This makes collaboration an unorganized and inefficient activity. This paper discusses the architectural novelties and design considerations utilized to develop an integrated collaborative assembly design tool. Further, the scenarios of using such a tool are discussed in detail.
