面向声音监测的多媒体传感器节点硬件设计与实现

Transformation and exchange of multimedia objects in distributed multimedia systems

One of the challenges in the design of a distributed multimedia system is devising suitable specification models for various schemas in different levels of the system. Another important research issue is the integration and synchronization of heterogeneous multimedia objects. In this paper, we present our models for multimedia schemas and transformation algorithms. They transform high-level multimedia objects into schemas that can be used to support the presentation and communication of the multimedia objects. A key module in the system is the Object Exchange Manager (OEM). In this paper, we present the design and implementation of the OEM module, and discuss in detail the interaction between the OEM and other modules in a distributed multimedia system.     

Collaborative video searching on a tabletop

Almost all system and application design for multimedia systems is based around a single user working in isolation to perform some task yet much of the work for which we use computers to help us, is based on working collaboratively with colleagues. Groupware systems do support user collaboration but typically this is supported through software and users still physically work independently. Tabletop systems, such as the DiamondTouch from MERL, are interface devices which support direct user collaboration on a tabletop. When a tabletop is used as the interface for a multimedia system, such as a video search system, then this kind of direct collaboration raises many questions for system design. In this paper we present a tabletop system for supporting a pair of users in a video search task and we evaluate the system not only in terms of search performance but also in terms of user–user interaction and how different user personalities within each pair of searchers impacts search performance and user interaction. Incorporating the user into the system evaluation as we have done here reveals several interesting results and has important ramifications for the design of a multimedia search system.

随着移动通信技术的迅速发展，可移动的多媒体通信在监控领域已成为热点。本文针对现在监控系统的缺陷以及移动监控动态范围广、实时性要求高等特点，采用基于CDMA2000 1X技术和嵌入式TM1300系统平台相结合的解决方案，图像向手机传输采用最新的彩E技术。有效的改善了现有监控系统的弊端，如数据传输速度慢、移动性差、可靠性差等。而且该方案的数据传输方式依托中国联通的CDMA2000 1X网络，永久在线、实时性好、经济合理。试验证明该解决方案具有稳定可靠、实时性强、传输速度快、经济合理等优点，很好实现了预定的目标要求。

An open framework supporting multimedia web services

With the rapid emergence of Web services, more and more Web services are published on the Internet as resources for Web application development. There may exist some relationships among different Web services, such as exact match, plug-in match, and irrelevant. In this paper, we discuss a set of requirements related to multimedia Web services, and propose a three-tier framework to establish an open environment supporting multimedia Web services, while partially implementing the requirements. This paper focuses on the design of the service broker tier that is essential for future Web services-oriented system design and integration and enabling Web services more transparent, interoperable, and fault-tolerate.     

Design considerations for the symphony integrated multimedia file system

A multimedia file system supports diverse application classes that access data with heterogeneous characteristics. In this paper, we describe our experiences in the design and implementation of the Symphony multimedia file system. We first discuss various methodologies for designing multimedia file systems and examine their trade-offs. We examine the design requirements for such file systems and argue that to efficiently manage the heterogeneity in application requirements and data characteristics, a multimedia file system should enable the coexistence of multiple data-type-specific and application-specific techniques. We describe the architecture and novel features of Symphony and then demonstrate their efficacy through an experimental evaluation. Our results show that Symphony yields a factor of 1.9 improvement in text response time over conventional disk scheduling algorithms while continuing to meet the real-time requirements of video clients.
