We describe an approach for interactive collision detection and proximity computations on massive models composed of millions of geometric primitives. We address issues related to interactive data access and processing in a large geometric database, which may not fit into main memory of typical desktop workstations or computers. We present a new algorithm using overlap graphs for localizing the "regions of interest" within a massive model, thereby reducing runtime memory requirements. The overlap graph is computed off-line, pre-processed using graph partitioning algorithms, and modified on the fly as needed. At run time, we traverse localized sub-graphs to check the corresponding geometry for proximity and pre-fetch geometry and auxiliary data structures. To perform interactive proximity queries, we use bounding-volume hierarchies and take advantage of spatial and temporal coherence. Based on the proposed algorithms, we have developed a system called IMMPACT and used it for interaction with a CAD model of a power plant consisting of over 15 million triangles. We are able to perform a number of proximity queries in real-time on such a model. In terms of model complexity and application to large models, we have improved the performance of interactive collision detection and proximity computation algorithms by an order of magnitude.  相似文献

Keyword proximity search in XML trees   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Recent works have shown the benefits of keyword proximity search in querying XML documents in addition to text documents. For example, given query keywords over Shakespeare's plays in XML, the user might be interested in knowing how the keywords cooccur. In this paper, we focus on XML trees and define XML keyword, proximity queries to return the (possibly heterogeneous) set of minimum connecting trees (MCTs) of the matches to the individual keywords in the query. We consider efficiently executing keyword proximity queries on labeled trees (XML) in various settings: 1) when the XML database has been preprocessed and 2) when no indices are available on the XML database. We perform a detailed experimental evaluation to study the benefits of our approach and show that our algorithms considerably outperform prior algorithms and other applicable approaches.  相似文献

Finding the occurrences of structural patterns in XML data is a key operation in XML query processing. Existing algorithms for this operation focus almost exclusively on path patterns or tree patterns. Current applications of XML require querying of data whose structure is complex or is not fully known to the user, or integrating XML data sources with different structures. These applications have motivated recently the introduction of query languages that allow a partial specification of path patterns in a query. In this paper, we consider partial path queries, a generalization of path pattern queries, and we focus on their efficient evaluation under the indexed streaming evaluation model. Our approach explicitly deals with repeated labels (that is, multiple occurrences of the same label in a query). We show that partial path queries can be represented as rooted dags for which a topological ordering of the nodes exists. We present three algorithms for the efficient evaluation of these queries. The first one exploits a structural summary of data to generate a set of path patterns that together are equivalent to a partial path query. To evaluate these path patterns, we extend a previous algorithm for path-pattern queries so that it can work on path patterns with repeated labels. The second one extracts a spanning tree from the query dag, uses a stack-based algorithm to find the matches of the root-to-leaf paths in the tree, and merge-joins the matches to compute the answer. Finally, the third one exploits multiple pointers of stack entries and a topological ordering of the query dag to apply a stack-based holistic technique. We analyze our algorithms and perform extensive experimental evaluations. Our experimental results show that the holistic algorithm outperforms the other ones. Our approaches are the first ones to efficiently evaluate this class of queries in the indexed streaming model.  相似文献

An evaluation of XML queries such as XQuery or XPath expressions represents a challenging task due to its complexity. Many algorithms have been introduced to cope with this problem. Some of them, called binary joins, evaluate separated parts of a query and subsequently merge intermediate results, while the others, called holistic twig joins, evaluate a query as a whole. Moreover, these algorithms also differ in what index data structure they use to handle XML data. There exist cost-based approaches utilizing binary joins and various index data structures; however, they share a limitation. The limitation is that they cannot perform a join between query nodes not having a direct XPath relationship. Such a join can be advantageous especially if their joint selectivity is high. Since holistic joins work with all query nodes they overcome this limitation. In this article, we introduce such a holistic twig join called CostTwigJoin. To the best of our knowledge, CostTwigJoin is the first holistic join capable of combining various index data structures during an evaluation of an XML query. Usage of the holistic join has yet another advantage for cost-based approaches: an optimizer does not have to resolve the order of binary joins; therefore, the search space is reduced. In this article, we perform thorough experiments on hundreds of queries to evaluate our approach and demonstrate its advantages.  相似文献

There have been many studies on management of moving objects recently. Most of them try to optimize the performance of predictive window queries. However, not much attention is paid to two other important query types: the predictive range query and the predictive k nearest neighbor query. In this article, we focus on these two types of queries. The novelty of our work mainly lies in the introduction of the Transformed Minkowski Sum, which can be used to determine whether a moving bounding rectangle intersects a moving circular query region. This enables us to use the traditional tree traversal algorithms to perform range and kNN searches. We theoretically show that our algorithms based on the Transformed Minkowski Sum are optimal in terms of the number of tree node accesses. We also experimentally verify the effectiveness of our technique and show that our algorithms outperform alternative approaches.  相似文献

Branch query processing is a core operation of XML query processing. In recent years, a number of stack based twig join algorithms have been proposed to process twig queries based on tag stream index. However, in tag stream index, each element is labeled separately without considering the similarity among elements. Besides, algorithms based on tag stream index perform inefficiently on large document. This paper proposes a novel index, named Clustered Chain Path Index, based on a novel labeling scheme. This index provides efficient support for processing branch queries. It also has the same cardinality as 1-index against tree structured XML document. Based on CCPI, efficient algorithms, KMP-Match-Path and Related-Path-Segment-Join, are proposed to process queries efficiently. Analysis and experimental results show that proposed query processing algorithms based on CCPI outperform other algorithms and have good scalability. A number of indexing techniques have been proposed in recent times for optimizing the queries on XML and other semi-structured data models. Most of the semi-structured models use tree-like structures and query languages (XPath, XQuery, etc.) which make use of regular path expressions to optimize the query processing. In this paper, we propose two algorithms called Entry-point algorithm (EPA) and Two-point Entry algorithms that exploit different types of indices to efficiently process XPath queries. We discuss and compare two approaches namely, Root-first and Bottom-first in implementing the EPA. We present the experimental results of the algorithms using XML benchmark queries and data and compare the results with that of traditional methods of query processing with and without the use of indexes, and ToXin indexing approach. Our algorithms show improved performance results than the traditional methods and Toxin indexing approach.  相似文献

This study proposes a method of in-network aggregate query processing to reduce the number of messages incurred in a wireless sensor network. When aggregate queries are issued to the resource-constrained wireless sensor network, it is important to efficiently perform these queries. Given a set of multiple aggregate queries, the proposed approach shares intermediate results among queries to reduce the number of messages. When the sink receives multiple queries, it should be propagated these queries to a wireless sensor network via existing routing protocols. The sink could obtain the corresponding topology of queries and views each query as a query tree. With a set of query trees collected at the sink, it is necessary to determine a set of backbones that share intermediate results with other query trees (called non-backbones). First, it is necessary to formulate the objective cost function for backbones and non-backbones. Using this objective cost function, it is possible to derive a reduction graph that reveals possible cases of sharing intermediate results among query trees. Using the reduction graph, this study first proposes a heuristic algorithm BM (standing for Backbone Mapping). This study also develops algorithm OOB (standing for Obtaining Optimal Backbones) that exploits a branch-and-bound strategy to obtain the optimal solution efficiently. This study tests the performance of these algorithms on both synthesis and real datasets. Experimental results show that by sharing the intermediate results, the BM and OOB algorithms significantly reduce the total number of messages incurred by multiple aggregate queries, thereby extending the lifetime of sensor networks.  相似文献

Approximation-Based Similarity Search for 3-D Surface Segments   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The issue of finding similar 3-D surface segments arises in many recent applications of spatial database systems, such as molecular biology, medical imaging, CAD, and geographic information systems. Surface segments being similar in shape to a given query segment are to be retrieved from the database. The two main questions are how to define shape similarity and how to efficiently execute similarity search queries. We propose a new similarity model based on shape approximation by multi-parametric surface functions that are adaptable to specific application domains. We then define shape similarity of two 3-D surface segments in terms of their mutual approximation errors. Applying the multi-step query processing paradigm, we propose algorithms to efficiently support complex similarity search queries in large spatial databases. A new query type, called the ellipsoid query, is utilized in the filter step. Ellipsoid queries, being specified by quadratic forms, represent a general concept for similarity search. Our major contribution is the introduction of efficient algorithms to perform ellipsoid queries on multidimensional index structures. Experimental results on a large 3-D protein database containing 94,000 surface segments demonstrate the successful application and the high performance of our method.  相似文献

Management of large quantities of complex data is essential in many advanced application areas. Object-oriented (OO) database management system have been developed to effectively model and process the complex domain knowledge. They have been shown to outperform some existing relational systems. The existing implementations of OO database management systems attempt to improve the efficiency of OO queries by explicitly capturing the relationships among objects. However, the execution of complex queries involving the retrieval of objects from many classes and relationships among them causes the existing system to operate inefficiently. In this paper, we present parallel algorithms for the processing of queries against a large OO database. The algorithms are based on a closed model of query processing pattern-based access instead of the conventional value-based access. During processing, the algorithms avoid the execution of time-consuming join operations by making use of the explicitly stored object associations. Generation of large quantities of temporary data is avoided by marking objects using their identifiers and by employing a two-phase query processing strategy. A query is processed by concurrent multiple waves, thereby improving parallelism avoiding the complexities introduced in their sequential implementation. The correctness and the performance of the parallel algorithms have been tested and analyzed by running parallel programs on a 32-node transputer based parallel machine designed and developed at the IBM Research Center at Yorktown Heights, New York. Benchmark queries of different semantic complexities are generated, and their performance is analyzed for various data and query parameters  相似文献
