In this paper a method for fitting open surfaces to data obtained from images is presented using a level set representation of the surface. This is done by tracking a curve, representing the boundary, on the implicitly defined surface. This curve is given as the intersection of the level set describing the surface and an auxiliary level set. These two level sets are propagated using the same motion vector field. Special care has to be taken in order for the surfaces not to intersect at other places than at the desired boundary. Methods for accomplishing this are presented and a fast scheme for finding initial values is proposed. This method gives a piecewise linear approximation of the initial surface boundary using a partition of the convex hull of the recovered 3D data. With the approach described in this paper, open surfaces can be fitted to e.g. point clouds obtained using structure from motion techniques. This paper solves an important practical problem since in many cases the surfaces in the scene are open or can only be viewed from certain directions. Experiments on several data sets support the method.  相似文献

We present a novel and effective method for modeling a developable surface to simulate paper bending in interactive and animation applications. The method exploits the representation of a developable surface as the envelope of rectifying planes of a curve in 3D, which is therefore necessarily a geodesic on the surface. We manipulate the geodesic to provide intuitive shape control for modeling paper bending. Our method ensures a natural continuous isometric deformation from a piece of bent paper to its flat state without any stretching. Test examples show that the new scheme is fast, accurate, and easy to use, thus providing an effective approach to interactive paper bending. We also show how to handle non-convex piecewise smooth developable surfaces.  相似文献

A rational curve on a rational surface such that the unit normal vector field of the surface along this curve is rational will be called a curve providing Pythagorean surface normals (or shortly a PSN curve). These curves represent rational paths on the surface along which the surface possesses rational offset curves. Our aim is to study rational surfaces containing enough PSN curves. The relation with PN surfaces will be also investigated and thoroughly discussed. The algebraic and geometric properties of PSN curves will be described using the theory of double planes. The main motivation for this contribution is to bring the theory of rational offsets of rational surfaces closer to the practical problems appearing in numerical-control machining where the milling cutter does not follow continuously the whole offset surface but only certain chosen trajectories on it. A special attention will be devoted to rational surfaces with pencils of PSN curves.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to present theoretical basis for computing a representation of a compact Riemann surface as an algebraic plane curve and to compute a numerical approximation for its period matrix. We will describe a program C ars (Semmler et al., 1996) that can be used to define Riemann surfaces for computations. C ars allows one also to perform the Fenchel–Nielsen twist and other deformations on Riemann surfaces.Almost all theoretical results presented here are well known in classical complex analysis and algebraic geometry. The contribution of the present paper is the design of an algorithm which is based on the classical results and computes first an approximation of a polynomial representing a given compact Riemann surface as a plane algebraic curve and further computes an approximation for a period matrix of this curve. This algorithm thus solves an important problem in the general case. This problem was first solved, in the case of symmetric Riemann surfaces, in Seppälä (1994).  相似文献

A Parametric-Space-Based Scan-Line Algorithm for Rendering Bicubic Surfaces   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This article presents a new scan-line algorithm for displaying bicubic surfaces. Patches are decomposed on regions of constant sign of the z component of the normal before the scan process. Most of the computations are done in parametric space. The algorithm computes the intersection of the surfaces with only a restricted subset of scan planes and obtains the intersection with other scan planes by linear interpolation between exact instersections. A bound of the algorithm's error is given. Finally, the new method is compared with Whitted's algorithm.  相似文献

隐式代数曲面的参数化是 CAGD的热点问题之一 .针对一类四次隐式代数曲面 ,提出一种基于分片的几何参数化方法 .首先对四次代数曲面进行分片 ,然后对每一个分片曲面利用一组同轴平面束与其求交线 ,通过对求得交线的参数化来完成对整个分片曲面的参数化 .该方法是一种精确的参数化方法 ,其结构直观、计算简单 ,并且具有可使分片的四次代数曲面位于 [0 ,1]× [0 ,1]参数区间内 ,以及分片曲面的边界位于等参数线上等特点 ,利用该参数曲面可以方便地实现机器作图和几何操作 .实验结果验证了文中方法的有效性 .  相似文献

This paper describes first results of a test implementation that implements the new multivariate B-splines as recently developed by Dahmen et al. 10for quadratics and cubics. The surface scheme is based on blending functions and control points and allows the modelling of   C k − 1  -continuous piecewise polynomial surfaces of degree k over arbitrary triangulations of the parameter plane. The surface scheme exhibits both affine invariance and the convex hull property, and the control points can be used to manipulate the shape of the surface locally. Additional degrees of freedom in the underlying knot net allow for the modelling of discontinuities. Explicit formulas are given for the representation of polynomials and piecewise polynomials as linear combinations of B-splines.  相似文献

A method for representing shape using portions of algebraic surfaces bounded by rectangular boxes defined in terms of triple product Bernstein polynomials is described and some of its properties are outlined. The method is extended to handle piecewise continuous algebraic surfaces within rectangular boxes defined in terms of triple products of B-spline basis functions. Next, two techniques for sculptured shape creation are studied. The first is based on geometric manipulation of existing primitives and the second on approximation/interpolation of lower dimensional entities using least-squares techniques based on singular value decomposition. In addition, several interrogation techniques, such as contouring, ray tracing and curvature evaluation, used in the design and analysis of piecewise continuous algebraic surfaces are discussed.  相似文献

Implicit surfaces obtained by convolution of multi-dimensional primitives with some potential function, are a generalisation of popular implicit surface models: blobs, metaballs and soft objects. These models differ in their choice of potential function but agree upon the use of underlying modelling primitives, namely, points. In this paper a method is described for modelling and rendering implicit surfaces built upon an expanded set of skeletal primitives: points, line segments, polygons, arcs and planes. An analytical solution to the convolution is described. This solution offers a more accurate and robust representation of the resultant implicit surface than previous methods. An algorithm for ray-tracing the surfaces formed through convolution of any combination of these primitives is also outlined.  相似文献

Techniques for computing intersections of algebraic surfaces with piecewise rational polynomial parametric surface patches and intersections of two piecewise rational polynomial parametric surface patches are discussed. The techniques are classified using four categories-lattice evolution methods, marching methods, subdivision methods, and analytic methods-and their principal features are discussed. This paper studies algebraic and geometric properties of curve–curve, curve–surface, and surface–surface bisectors. The computation is in general difficult since the bisector is determined by solving a system of nonlinear equations. Geometric considerations will help us to determine several distinguished curve and surface pairs which possess elementary computable bisectors. In this paper a numerical method is given for the solution of linear Fredholm integro-differential equation (FIDE) with piecewise intervals under the mixed conditions using the Bernoulli polynomials. The aim of this article is to present an efficient numerical procedure for solving linear FIDE with piecewise intervals. This method transforms linear FIDE with piecewise intervals and the given conditions into matrix equation which corresponds to a system of linear algebraic equation. Finally, some experiments and their numerical solutions are given. The results reveal that this method is reliable and efficient.  相似文献

We present a multi-level partition of unity algebraic set surfaces (MPU-APSS) for surface reconstruction which can be represented by either a projection or in an implicit form. An algebraic point set surface (APSS) defines a smooth surface from a set of unorganized points using local moving least-squares (MLS) fitting of algebraic spheres. However, due to the local nature, APSS does not work well for geometry editing and modeling. Instead, our method builds an implicit approximation function for the scattered point set based on the partition of unity approach. By using an octree subdivision strategy, we first adaptively construct local algebraic spheres for the point set, and then apply weighting functions to blend together these local shape functions. Finally, we compute an error-controlled approximation of the signed distance function from the surface. In addition, we present an efficient projection operator which makes our representation suitable for point set filtering and dynamic point resampling. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our unified approach for both surface reconstruction and geometry modeling such as surface completion.  相似文献
