Expert Systems (ES) are as yet imperfectly defined. Their two consistently cited characteristics are domain knowledge and expert-level performance. We propose that current structural definitions are inadequate and suggest a view of ES as communication channels. We proceed to explore the factors influencing applicability of ES technology to an enterprise and the impacts that could be expected. A consequence of this view is the idea of incremental information loss on the path from the expert to the ES user. Strategies for minimizing this loss derive naturally from our perspective and are evident in successful ES.  相似文献

As part of the development of a system for routinely measuring shear-wave splitting, this paper introduces an Expert System (ES) to measure the polarisations and time-delays of seismic shear-wave splitting in three-component seismograms above small earthquakes. Expert Systems are rule-based computer techniques designed to provide expertise in particular topics, where the rules are algorithms developed from previous knowledge and experience. The technique is tested on data recorded by the seismic network in Iceland. The statistics suggests that the ES is reasonably successful and provides appropriate initial input parameters for a more precise analysis, which leads to the success of the comprehensive Shear-Wave Analysis System (SWAS) for measuring shear-wave splitting.  相似文献

Before Expert System (ES) technology can be effectively used for complex systems a comprehensive verification and validation (V&V) methodology must be defined. Evidence from the computer industry suggests that without such a methodology Expert Systems will not be considered safe and reliable for field use. to this end, we have defined a design language called TOP (Terms, Operators, and Productions) for specifying knowledge-base designs which support verification and validation. This article discusses the key features of TOP which are: term subsumption, operator methods, sequence expressions, and a method for translating TOP designs into C-Language Production System (CLIPS) rules. to put these features of TOP into perspective, several illustrations from applications using TOP are presented. We believe that the concepts presented here serve as a solid foundation for practical application of Expert Systems and continued research into the verification and validation of Expert Systems. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Abstract: In the early 1970s, research into Artificial Intelligence (Al) in Britain was almost wiped out following the publication of an unfavourable report to government. In the 1980s, Al emerged from obscurity with Expert Systems as its leading edge and has now become the focus of considerable activity with an ever-growing volume of practical applications developed or under development in British industry and business. This paper reviews the growth of business interest in Expert Systems from a British perspective and surveys the principal work carried out to date. Technical issues highlighted by this work are considered and prospects for future development are discussed.  相似文献

Expert systems (ES) development technology has been used to build rural business applications in the past but these have usually been developed using traditional expert systems shells. This paper introduces a new architecture for the development of a design environment where the domain experts can build a knowledge base for target-specific ES for rural business operators. The system allows rural business operators to use their own knowledge in building their own, target-specific ES for tailored development to their own specific requirements. At this stage, this reusable design environment caters for the Australian dairy industry but in the long run we claim it will be useful for the other livestock based rural industries such as beef cattle and sheep. This approach of developing target-specific ES contributes new knowledge in that it provides a new way of developing decision support by allowing human domain experts to develop relevant ES for different livestock farming business.An evolutionary prototyping approach was employed for initial development of a proof of concept example and as a method of outlining the solution environment. Multiple qualitative data collection methods were engaged to facilitate knowledge acquisition in the domain of milk protein enhancement for dairy operations. This paper also describes the generic development procedure used in this project.  相似文献

地图匹配(Map Matching)技术利用电子地图和定位信息来确定车辆在道路上的准确位置,是一种软件纠错技术。该文在引入地图匹配问题的基础上,分析讨论了目前主要的地图匹配算法,并结合智能交通系统(ITS)的需求,探讨了车辆所在道路上具体位置的识别方法,最后对地图匹配技术在ITS中的应用进行了回顾和展望。  相似文献
