Single-crystalline orthorhombic antimony trioxide (Sb2O3) nanobelts with unique elliptical cross sections and purple-blue photoluminescence have been synthesized. The uniform Sb2O3 nanobelts are 400–600 nm in width, 20–40 nm in thickness at the center and gradually become thinner to form sharp edges sub-5 nm in size, tens of micrometers in length, and with [001] as the preferential growth direction. Self-assembly of tens of nanobelts into three-dimensional (3-D) flower-like nanostructures has been observed. Analysis was performed by X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The Sb2O3 nanobelts display intense purple-blue photoluminescence centred at 425 nm (∼2.92 eV). The successful synthesis of nanobelts with elliptical cross sections may cast new light on the investigation of the property differences between nanobelts with rectangular cross sections and those with other cross section geometries. The Sb2O3 nanobelts can be used as effective purple-blue light emitters and may also be valuable for future nanodevice design. The electric and temperature fields in a pulse-heated wire with a quadratic cross section are calculated analytically. The quick increase of the current through the wire during the pulse-heating process results in a nonuniform electric field (skin effect), and thus also a nonuniform temperature field over the wire cross section. By means of a typical pulse-heating experiment performed on a quadratic niobium wire, the magnitudes of the deviations of these fields from their mean values are graphically displayed. Compared with the strength of the mean fields, these deviations are significant only in the first few μs of the heating process. An experimental investigation of transverse vibrations in a rotating uniform plate, possessing double symmetry in the transverse cross section, is described. A method of modeling the centrifugal force acting on a uniform plate (under static conditions) and measurement details are presented. Test data are given. The mechanical model is established for the functionally gradient material (FGM) beam with rectangular cross section. A new method of effective principal axes is put forth, based on which the normal stress formula is derived for the FGM beam. The method is verified to be correct by the retrogression of it to the centroidal principal axes method of the traditional beam made of homogeneous elastic material. For several different loading cases, the␣effects of the non-homogeneity parameter on the distribution of the normal stress and on the position of the neutral axis are discussed. It is indicated that, with the increase of the absolute value of the non-homogeneity parameter, the normal stress at the more rigid region in the cross section increases, the normal stress at the less rigid region decreases, and the neutral axis moves toward the more rigid region.  相似文献
