Low-temperature carburizing below 773 K of austenite stainless steel can produce expanded austenite, known as S-phase, where surface hardness is improved while corrosion resistance is retained. Plasma-sprayed austenitic AISI 316L stainless steel coatings were carburized at low temperatures to enhance wear resistance. Because the sprayed AISI 316L coatings include oxide layers synthesized in the air during the plasma spraying process, the oxide layers may restrict carbon diffusion. We found that the carbon content of the sprayed AISI 316L coatings by low-temperature carburizing was less than that of the AISI 316L steel plates; however, there was little difference in the thickness of the carburized layers. The Vickers hardness of the carburized AISI 316L spray coating was above 1000 HV and the amount of specific wear by dry sliding wear was improved by two orders of magnitude. We conclude that low-temperature plasma carburizing enabling the sprayed coatings to enhance the wear resistance to the level of carburized AISI 316L stainless steel plates. As for corrosion resistance in a 3.5 mass% NaCl solution, the carburized AISI 316L spray coating was slightly inferior to the as-sprayed AISI 316L coating.  相似文献

The rapid technical development enhances the demands on constructional materials in terms of their resistance to frictional wear, resistance to corrosion and erosion, high hardness, high tensile and fatigue strength. These demands can be satisfied by e.g. applying various surface engineering techniques that permit to modify the microstructure, phase and chemical composition of the surface layers of the treated parts. A prospective line of the development of surface engineering is the production of composite layers by combining various surface engineering methods. The paper presents the results of examinations of the phase composition and frictional wear resistance of the layers produced by hybrid processes, i.e. such that combined glow discharge assisted nitriding performed at 450 °C and 550 °C with a pulsed laser deposition of boron nitride coatings (PLD method). It has been shown that the boron nitride coatings formed on nitrided AISI 316L steel increase its frictional wear resistance.  相似文献

Stellite 21 is a low-carbon Co–Cr–Mo alloy that has been used for hip implants for decades. The Stellite 21 implants can fail when the femoral head and the acetabular cup loosen because of limited metal-on-metal bearing. Two modified Stellite 21 alloys with better bearing capacities are proposed as replacements in this study: Cr-modified Stellite 21 with additional 10 wt.% Cr, and N-modified Stellite 21 with addition of 0.5 wt.% CrN. The wear and corrosion resistances of these alloys were investigated in simulated conditions experienced by hip implants in human bodies. The experimental results show that the proposed alloys all exhibit better wear resistance than the conventional hip implant material, but only Cr-modified Stellite 21 displays better corrosion resistance, thus this alloy should be considered for use in future hip implants.  相似文献

304 austenitic stainless steel reinforced by Al2O3 particles was prepared by microwave assisted self-propagating high temperature synthesis process using the Fe2O3Cr2O3NiOAlFe reaction system. Furthermore, effects of mechanical activation of the reactants and the addition of 21.2 wt.% extra Al to the chemical composition of the reactants on the chemical composition of the produced stainless steel was investigated. Atomic absorption spectroscopy analysis results indicated that by the addition of extra Al to the reactant mixture and using 30 minute mechanical activation, stainless steel containing 17.27 wt.% Cr and 7.73 wt.% Ni could be produced with its chemical composition very close to the chemical composition of 304 stainless steel. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the stainless steel contains nanostructured austenite and ferrite phases. Also microstructural characterizations indicated that there is a uniform distribution of black particles in the steel matrix. Energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis showed that these particles are composed of Al and O elements while the matrix contains Fe, Cr and Ni elements. The presence of Al2O3 particles and nanostructure matrix improved the hardness and therefore the wear properties of the composite in comparison with the wrought 304 stainless steel plate.  相似文献

316L stainless steel is widely used for fashion jewelry but it can carry a large number of bacteria and cause the potential risk of infection since it has no antimicrobial ability. In this paper, La is used as an alloying addition. The antibacterial capability, corrosion resistance and processability of the La-modified 316L are investigated by microscopic observation, thin-film adhering quantitative bacteriostasis, electrochemical measurement and mechanical test. The investigations reveal that the La-containing 316L exhibits the Hormesis effect against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli DH5α, 0.05 wt.% La stimulates their growth, as La increases, the modified 316L exhibits the improved antibacterial effect. The more amount of La is added, the better antibacterial ability is achieved, and 0.42 wt.% La shows excellent antibacterial efficacy. No more than 0.11 wt.% La addition improves slightly the corrosion resistance in artificial sweat and has no observable impact on the processability of 316L, while a larger La content degrades them. Therefore, the addition of La alone in 316L is difficult to obtain the optimal combination of corrosion resistance, antibacterial capability and processability. In spite of that, 0.15 wt.% La around is inferred to be the trade-off for the best overall performance.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different weight concentrations of silver (0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 wt.%) on the microstructure, hardness and wear properties of the gravity cast zinc–aluminium based alloy ZA-12. The alloys were manufactured under nitrogen protective atmosphere by a gravity casting process. Metallographic studies reveal that the addition of silver to the standard ZA-12 alloy changed the volume fraction and structure of the primary β-dendrites in the ZA-12 alloy. Also, it was observed that the addition of silver to ZA12 alloy enhanced the hardness and wear properties effectively. However, the corrosion resistance was decreased with increasing silver content. In addition to this, the highest hardness value among experimental alloys was obtained for the alloy containing 0.7 wt.% Ag with 116 HB. The wear rate for all applied loads is decreased with rising silver content. A similar trend was observed for the friction coefficient. The alloy containing 0.7 wt.% Ag exhibited the highest wear resistance at all loads.  相似文献

In this paper, the influence of the addition of Al2O3 particles on the microstructure and wear properties of Fe-based amorphous coatings prepared by high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) has been studied. The wear behaviors of the composite coatings were evaluated against Si3N4 in a pin-on-disk mode in air and in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. It was found that the Al2O3 particles were homogenously distributed in the amorphous matrix and the composite coatings exhibited improved wear resistance and reduced coefficient of friction (COF) in both air and wet conditions as compared to the monolithic amorphous coating. The composite coating reinforced with 20 wt.% Al2O3 particles exhibit the best wear performance, which, for example, has extremely low COF (< 0.2) and high wear resistance (2–3 times higher than monolithic amorphous coating). Detailed analysis on the worn surface indicated that the wear mechanism for the amorphous and composite coatings is similar and is dominated by oxidative delamination in air and by corrosion wear in 3.5% NaCl solution. The enhanced wear resistance is mainly attributed to the addition of Al2O3 particles which exhibit high hardness, good corrosion resistance and excellent chemical and thermal stability.  相似文献

This paper reports the investigation on indium addition into Sn–0.7Cu–0.2Ni lead-free solder to improve its various performances. The effects of indium addition on melting temperature, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), wettability, corrosion resistance and hardness of the solder alloys were studied. The results showed that when the addition of indium was ⩽0.3 wt.%, the change in melting temperature of Sn–0.7Cu–0.2Ni–xIn solders was negligible, but the melting range of the solder alloy increased. The CTE and spreading area of Sn–0.7Cu–0.2Ni–xIn solders on copper both increased with the addition of indium. An optimal CTE was 17.5 × 10−6/°C by adding 0.3 wt.% indium. At this concentration, the spreading area of solder on copper was about 15.6% larger than that of Sn–0.7Cu–0.2Ni indium-free solder. The corrosion resistance also increased with the addition of indium increasing, and the corrosion rate of Sn–0.7Cu–0.2Ni–0.3In solder was reduced by 32.8% compared with Sn–0.7Cu–0.2Ni alloy after 14 days in 5% hydrochloric acid solution at room temperature. However, a decrease of 11.7% in hardness of the solder was found when 0.3 wt.% indium was added.  相似文献

The present work investigates the effect of second phase dispersoid addition and sintering temperature on the corrosion behavior of austenitic (316L) stainless steels. Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) was added as second phase to the austenitic stainless steels in varying amounts (1, 2.5 and 7.5 wt.%), and the compacts were sintered at 1200 and 1400 °C corresponding to solid-state and supersolidus sintering, respectively. The sintered samples were characterized for their corrosion resistance in 0.1N H2SO4 using potentiodynamic polarization. It is shown that YAG addition does not appreciably increase corrosion rate of 316L compacts. However, as compared to solid-state sintering, supersolidus sintering resulted in superior corrosion resistance. The electrochemical behavior of the 316L–YAG composites with sintering temperature is correlated to the densification response and microstructure.  相似文献

The zinc–aluminum (Zn–Al) alloy coating with excellent wear and corrosion resistance was fabricated on the surface of magnesium substrate (AZ31) using thermal diffusion technique. The microstructure, phase constitution and chemical composition were investigated. The experimental observation exhibited that the interfacial microstructures were composed of network eutectic structures and lamellar eutectoid structures at heating temperature of 350 °C for holding time of 30 min under 0.1 MPa in a vacuum of 10−3 Pa. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern analysis identified that α-Mg, Mg7Zn3 and MgZn phases were formed in the diffusion layer. The interdiffusion of Mg and Al atoms were restricted by Mg–Zn intermetallic compounds (IMCs). The value of microhardness at the diffusion layer increased due to the formation of Mg–Zn eutectic phases. This technique is beneficial to improving poor wear and corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy.  相似文献

In this study, dry sliding wear behavior and corrosion resistance of Al–Cu–SiC–xNi (x: 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 wt.%) composites were investigated. Effect of nickel content on the microstructure and hardness of the alloys was also studied. Wear tests were conducted using a ball on disc wear test device. Corrosion behavior of Al–Cu–SiC–xNi composite alloys in 3.5% NaCl solution was investigated by using potentiodynamic polarization, impedance spectroscopy and cronoamperometric methods. The results showed that the hardness of the composite alloy increases with increasing nickel content. Maximum wear resistance is reported with the addition of 1 wt.%Ni. It was determined that corrosion resistance of Al–Cu–SiC composite alloys improved with increasing nickel content in the alloy.  相似文献

The current study presents some fundamental observations on the effects of the welding heat input in the chemical composition, microstructure, hardness and petroleum corrosion resistance of the fusion zone, formed by the AWS E309MoL austenitic stainless steel covered electrode and the AISI 410S ferritic stainless steel, being a dissimilar welding procedure. Such welding configurations are widely used as an overlay of equipment in the petroleum and gas industries. The welds were performed with the application of three different levels in heat inputs (6, 9 and 12 kJ/cm). Samples of the weld metals were conventionally prepared for the microstructural characterization by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. A corrosion test with samples immersed in heavy oil heated at 300 °C, was carried out for a period of 60 h. The corrosion rate was determined by the weight loss given after the aforesaid test. The fusion zone microstructure has a typical δ-ferrite acicular morphology, from which the level of δ-ferrite was duly altered with the increases of the welding heat input, due to the variations in the composition of the weld metal caused by dilution. It was also concluded that the chemical composition and the weld metal microstructure had a slight influence in the material’s corrosion rate. As a matter of fact, the corrosion rate of the weld metals evaluated herein, was considered satisfactory with few variations between the welding heat inputs duly applied.  相似文献

Fe-based bulk metallic glasses of Fe69.9?xC7.1Si3.3B5.5P8.7CrxMo2.5Al2.0Co1.0 (x = 0.0, 2.3–12.3) with high glass forming ability and good corrosion resistance were fabricated using industrial raw materials. Glass forming ability of the Fe-based bulk metallic glasses tends to decrease with the Cr content, while the corrosion resistance increases with the Cr content. A homogeneous passive layer on the amorphous sample with 12.3 at% Cr can be formed leading to superior corrosion resistance of the amorphous sample to an austenitic stainless steel (SUS304) in the 0.5 M H2SO4 and 1N HCl solutions at 298 K. Fe-based bulk metallic glasses with an optimum combination of glass forming ability and corrosion resistance can be produced in large quantities through a systematic control of the Cr content for extensive practical applications.  相似文献

The effect of iron-rich intermetallics on the wear behaviour of Al–Si hypereutectic alloys has been studied. Dry sliding wear tests have been conducted using a pin-on-disk machine under different normal loads of 18, 51, 74 and 100 N and at a constant sliding speed of 0.3 m/s. The addition of 1.2 wt.% Fe to the LM28 alloy increased the wear rate due to the formation of needle beta intermetallics. Introducing 0.6 wt.% Mn to the iron-rich alloy changed the beta intermetallics into the modified alpha phases, and therefore reduced the detrimental effect of iron. TIG welding method as a surface melting process was applied on the iron and manganese containing alloy and led to a fine microstructure and increased the wear resistance.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to compare the electrochemical corrosion resistance of two as-cast Al–6 wt.% Cu–1 wt.% Si and Al–8 wt.% Cu–3 wt.% Si alloys considering both the solutes macrosegregation profiles and the scale of the microstructure dendritic arrays. A water-cooled unidirectional solidification system was used to obtain the as-cast samples. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic anodic polarization techniques were used to analyze the corrosion resistance in a 0.5 M NaCl solution at 25 °C. It was found that the Al–8Cu–3Si alloy has better electrochemical corrosion resistance than the Al–6Cu–1Si alloy for any position along the casting length. At the castings regions where the Cu inverse profile prevailed (up to about 10 mm from the castings surface) the corrosion current density decreased up to 2.5 times with the decrease in the secondary dendrite arm spacing.  相似文献

In this work, large sized cubic BN (cBN) reinforced nanocomposites are prepared by cold spray deposition of blended powder mixtures of mechanically alloyed 40 vol.% cBN–NiCrAl nanocomposite particles and large sized cBN particles. Deposition behavior of the blended powders, microstructure and mechanical properties including hardness, fracture toughness and two-body dry abrasive wear behavior of the sprayed composites, are investigated. Results show that dense composites with large cBN particle content of 13–20 vol.%, depending on composition of the spray powders, can be obtained. Declining deposition efficiency is detected as increasing large cBN content due to the gradually enhanced sand blasting effect. Increasing content of large cBN in spray powder results in an increment in hardness and a decrement in fracture toughness. Abrasive wear resistance of the 40 vol.% cBN–NiCrAl nanocomposite is doubled by incorporating 20 vol.% of the large cBN particles. Worn surface morphology observation indicates that the improvement is due to the shielding effect of the large protruding cBN particles against SiC abrasive. Material removal mechanism of the sprayed composites during abrasive wear test is also studied.  相似文献

The wear behaviour of plasma sprayed coating and hard chrome plating on AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel substrate is experimentally investigated in unlubricated conditions. Experiments were conducted at different temperatures (room temp, 100 °C, 200 °C and 300 °C) with 50 N load and 1 m/s sliding velocity. Wear tests were carried out by dry sliding contact of EN-24 medium carbon steel pin as counterpart on a pin-on-disc wear testing machine. In both coatings, specimens were characterised by hardness, microstructure, coating density and sliding wear resistance. Wear studies showed that the hard chromium coating exhibited improved tribological performance than that of the plasma sprayed WC–Co coating. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) of the coatings showed that the better wear resistance at high temperature has been attributed to the formation of a protective oxide layer at the surface during sliding. The wear mechanisms were investigated through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and XRD. It was observed that the chromium coating provided higher hardness, good adhesion with the substrate and nearly five times the wear resistance than that obtained by uncoated AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel.  相似文献

In the present work, Al–30Mg2Si–2Cu alloy has been spray formed and subsequently hot pressed for densification. The alloy is then subjected to solutionizing and isothermal aging treatments. The microstructural features, hardness and wear behavior of spray formed and secondary processed alloys have been evaluated individually and compared with that of as-cast alloy. The microstructure of spray formed alloy showed refined and globular shaped primary Mg2Si intermetallic particles and Al2Cu precipitate particles uniformly distributed in Al matrix. The microstructure was refined further after hot consolidation. The microstructure after solution heat treatment appeared similar to that of the spray formed alloy but aging led to a further refinement in the microstructure compared to that of the hot pressed alloy. The evaluation of wear behavior of these alloys, under dry sliding condition, showed that the age hardened alloy exhibits maximum wear resistance and minimum coefficient of friction over the entire range of applied load (10–50 N) at a sliding speed of 2 ms−1 followed by hot pressed, spray formed and solution heat treated alloys. The as-cast alloy showed the least wear resistance and highest coefficient of friction. Similar trend has been observed even in their hardness values too. The wear resistance of the alloys is discussed in light of their microstructural modifications induced during spray forming and subsequent secondary processing and also the topography of worn surfaces.  相似文献

In this paper, the Taguchi method was employed to optimize the spray parameters (spray distance, oxygen flow and kerosene flow) to achieve the highest hardness and, in turn, the best wear resistance of the high-velocity oxygen-fuel (HVOF) sprayed nanostructured WC–10Co–4Cr coating by investigating the correlation between the spray parameters and the hardness. The important sequence of spray parameters on the hardness of the coatings is kerosene flow > oxygen flow > spray distance, and the kerosene flow is the only significant factor. The optimal spray parameter (OSP) for the coating is obtained by optimizing hardness (330 mm for the spray distance, 2000 scfh for the oxygen flow and 6.0 gph for the kerosene flow). The coating deposited under the OSP with low porosity and high microhardness consists predominately of WC and a certain amount of W2C phases. The coating deposited under the OSP exhibits better wear resistance compared with the cold work die steel Cr12MoV. The material removal of the coating is the extrusion of the ductile Co–Cr matrix followed by the crack and the removal of the hard WC particles.  相似文献

316L stainless steel composites with various weight fractions of TiC particles were prepared using warm compaction and microwave sintering. Abrasion resistance measurements were used to study the abrasive behaviors of TiC-316L stainless steel composites. The effects of TiC content and preparation methods on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 316L stainless steel composites have been investigated. The results showed that the sample prepared by warm compaction and microwave sintering exhibited significantly superior densification, higher hardness, and better abrasion resistance when compared with conventionally processed counterpart. TiC particles reinforcement improved the abrasion resistance of 316L stainless steel, and the abrasion resistance of the composites was considerably better than that of the 316L stainless steel. The volume loss initially decreases with increasing TiC content up to 5 wt.%, it then slightly increases as increase the TiC particles content to 10 and 15 wt.%. In this present abrasion tests, the composites using 5 wt.% TiC addition offers a high abrasion resistance.  相似文献
