Silica nanospheres have been explored much for drug delivery, photocatalysis, sensors and energy storage applications. It also acts as a template for Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) substrates. Uniform nanostructures at low cost with high reproducibility are the major challenges in SERS substrate fabrication. In the present work, silica nanospheres were synthesized using stober method and deposited on to glass slides using Vertical deposition techniques. Different size/thickness of Silver (Ag) nanoparticles were deposited onto silica thin films using sputter deposition technique. The monodispersity of silica nanospheres and size of silver nanoparticles (10 nm, 20 nm and 30 nm) were confirmed by FESEM analysis. The structural properties were confirmed through XRD. UV–Vis analysis revealed that the plasmonic properties of Ag@SiO2 give high surface plasmons for 30 nm thickness of silver. The binding energy of Ag@SiO2 confirmed through XPS spectrum. The fabricated SERS substrates were used to detect Rhodamine 6G (R6G), Methylene blue (MB), Methylene violet (MV) and Methyl orange dyes as an analyte molecule with a limit of detection at about 10?11 mol/L. The addition of SiO2 nanospheres decreases the Ag oxidation rate and increases their stability. The maximum enhancement factor (1.5?×?107) achieved for 30nm thickness of Ag@SiO2. The results and technique establish the potential applications and reproducible SERS substrate.

We very recently reported a new spectroscopic application for expanding the versatility of surface Raman called "shell-isolated nanoparticle-enhanced Raman spectroscopy" or "SHINERS". The most important and most difficult part of the SHINERS experiment is the effective transfer of the strong electromagnetic field from a gold core through the isolating silica or alumina shell to the probed surface. For this it is essential that the chemically inert dielectric shell be ultrathin (2-5 nm) yet pinhole-free. Herein we describe experimental and theoretical aspects of our SHINERS method in more detail. We provide a protocol for the synthesis and characterization of optimized shell-isolated nanoparticles (SHINs), and we examine the advantages of SHINERS nanoparticles over bare gold nanoparticles. We also present high-quality Raman spectra obtained from gold and platinum single-crystal surfaces in an electrochemical environment by our SHINERS technique. SHINERS is a simple and cost-effective approach that expands the flexibility of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for an unprecedented diversity of applications in materials and surface sciences.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS)-based biosensors have attracted much attention for their label-free detection, ultrahigh sensitivity, and unique molecular fingerprinting. In this study, a wafer-scale, ultrasensitive, highly uniform, paper-based, portable SERS detection platform featuring abundant and dense gold nanopearls with narrow gap distances, are prepared and deposited directly onto ultralow-surface-energy fluorosilane-modified cellulose fibers through simple thermal evaporation by delicately manipulating the atom diffusion behavior. The as-designed paper-based SERS substrate exhibits an extremely high Raman enhancement factor (3.9 × 1011), detectability at sub-femtomolar concentrations (single-molecule level) and great signal reproductivity (relative standard deviation: 3.97%), even when operated with a portable 785-nm Raman spectrometer. This system is used for fingerprinting identification of 12 diverse analytes, including clinical medicines (cefazolin, chloramphenicol, levetiracetam, nicotine), pesticides (thiram, paraquat, carbaryl, chlorpyrifos), environmental carcinogens (benzo[a]pyrene, benzo[g,h,i]perylene), and illegal drugs (methamphetamine, mephedrone). The lowest detection concentrations reach the sub-ppb level, highlighted by a low of 16.2 ppq for nicotine. This system appears suitable for clinical applications in, for example, i) therapeutic drug monitoring for individualized medication adjustment and ii) ultra-early diagnosis for pesticide intoxication. Accordingly, such scalable, portable and ultrasensitive fibrous SERS substrates open up new opportunities for practical on-site detection in biofluid analysis, point-of-care diagnostics and precision medicine.  相似文献

In this work, a novel type of nanomedical platform, the double‐walled Au nanocage/SiO2 nanorattle, is successfully fabricated by combining two “hollow‐excavated strategies”—galvanic replacement and “surface‐protected etching”. The rational design of double‐walled nanostructure based on gold nanocages (AuNCs) and hollow SiO2 shells functionalized respectively with p‐aminothiophenol (pATP) and Tat peptide simultaneously renders the nanoplatforms three functionalities: 1) the whole nanorattle serves as a high efficient drug carrier thanks to the structural characteristics of AuNC and SiO2 shell with hollow interiors and porous walls; 2) the AuNC with large electromagnetic enhancement acts as a sensitive surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate to track the internalization process of the nanorattles by human MCF‐7 breast cancer cells, as well as an efficient photothermal transducer for localized hyperthermia cancer therapy due to the strong near‐infrared absorption; 3) Tat‐functionalized SiO2 shell not only improves biocompatibility and cell uptake efficiency resulting in enhanced anticancer efficacy but also prevents the AuNCs from aggregation and provides the stability of AuNCs so that the SERS signals can be used for cell tracking in high fidelity. The reported chemistry and the designed nanostructures should inspire more interesting nanostructures and applications.  相似文献

Graphitic carbon nitride modified with plasmonic Ag@SiO2 core–shell nanoparticles (g‐C3N4/Ag@SiO2) are proposed for enhanced photocatalytic solar hydrogen evolution under visible light. Nanosized gaps between the plasmonic Ag nanoparticles (NPs) and g‐C3N4 are created and precisely modulated to be 8, 12, 17, and 21 nm by coating SiO2 shells on the Ag NPs. The optimized photocatalytic hydrogen production activity for g‐C3N4/Ag@SiO2 is achieved with a nanogap of 12 nm (11.4 μmol h−1) to be more than twice as high as that of pure g‐C3N4 (5.6 μmol h−1). The plasmon resonance energy transfer (PRET) effect of Ag NPs is innovatively proved from a physical view on polymer semiconductors for photoredox catalysis. The PRET effect favors the charge carrier separation by inducing electron–hole pairs efficiently formed in the near‐surface region of g‐C3N4. Furthermore, via engineering the width of the nanogap, the PRET and energy‐loss Förster resonance energy transfer processes are perfectly balanced, resulting in considerable enhancement of photocatalytic hydrogen production activity over the g‐C3N4/Ag@SiO2 plasmonic photocatalyst.  相似文献

Semiconductor‐based surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has attracted great attention due to its excellent spectral reproducibility, high uniformity, and good anti‐interference ability. However, its relatively low SERS sensitivity still hinders its further developments in both performance and applications. Since the SERS is a peculiar surface effect, investigating the facet‐dependent SERS activity of semiconductor nanostructures is crucial to boost their SERS signals. Although the semiconductor facet‐dependent SERS effect is predicted via numerical calculations, convincing experimental evidence is scarce due to complicated and undefined surface conditions. In this work, three facet‐defined ({100}, {110}, and {111} facets) Cu2O microcrystals (MCs) with clear surface atomic configuration are utilized to investigate the facet‐dependent SERS effect. The results from the Kelvin probe force microscopy measurements on single Cu2O polyhedron, demonstrate that the facet‐dependent work function plays a crucial role in the interfacial charge transfer process. Comparing with the {110} and {111} facets, the {100} facet possesses the lowest electronic work function, which enables more efficient interfacial charge transfer. The simulation results further confirm that the {100}‐facets can transfer the most electrons from Cu2O MCs to molecules due to its lowest facet work function, resulting in the largest increment of the molecular polarization.  相似文献

The design and synthesis of plasmonic nanoparticles with Raman-active molecules embedded inside them are of significant interest for sensing and imaging applications. However, direct synthesis of such nanostructures with controllable shape, size, and plasmonic properties remains extremely challenging. Here we report on the preparation of uniform Au@Ag core/shell nanorods with controllable Ag shells of 1 to 25 nm in thickness.1,4-Aminothiophenol (4-ATP) molecules, used as the Raman reporters, were located between the Au core and the Ag shell.Successful embedding of reporter molecules inside the core/shell nanoparticles was confirmed by the absence of selective oxidation of the amino groups,as measured by Raman spectroscopy. The dependence of Raman intensity on the location of the reporter molecules in the inside and outside of the nanorods was studied. The molecules in the interior showed strong and uniform Raman intensity,at least an order of magnitude higher than that of the molecules on the nanoparticle surface. In contrast to the usual surface-functionalized Raman tags, aggregation and clustering of nanoparticles with embedded molecules decreased the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) signal. The findings from this study provide the basis for a novel detection technique of low analyte concentration utilizing the high SERS response of molecules inside the core/shell metal nanostructures. As an example,we show robust SERS detection of thiram fungicide as low as 10-9 M in solutions.  相似文献

Improved performance in plasmonic organic solar cells (OSCs) and organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) via strong plasmon‐coupling effects generated by aligned silver nanowire (AgNW) transparent electrodes decorated with core–shell silver–silica nanoparticles (Ag@SiO2NPs) is demonstrated. NP‐enhanced plasmonic AgNW (Ag@SiO2NP–AgNW) electrodes enable substantially enhanced radiative emission and light absorption efficiency due to strong hybridized plasmon coupling between localized surface plasmons (LSPs) and propagating surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) modes, which leads to improved device performance in organic optoelectronic devices (OODs). The discrete dipole approximation (DDA) calculation of the electric field verifies a strongly enhanced plasmon‐coupling effect caused by decorating core–shell Ag@SiO2NPs onto the AgNWs. Notably, an electroluminescence efficiency of 25.33 cd A?1 (at 3.2 V) and a power efficiency of 25.14 lm W?1 (3.0 V) in OLEDs, as well as a power conversion efficiency (PCE) value of 9.19% in OSCs are achieved using hybrid Ag@SiO2NP–AgNW films. These are the highest values reported to date for optoelectronic devices based on AgNW electrodes. This work provides a new design platform to fabricate high‐performance OODs, which can be further explored in various plasmonic and optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

In this work a new approach has been developed for the synthesis of SiO2@Y2O3 particles with core-shell structure. The method is based on the synthesis of a covalently bonded sacrificial polymer shell grown onto silica particles. It is suitable to promote and stabilize the adsorption of different ions, namely Yttrium from its nitrate solution. After calcination and consequent elimination of the sacrificial polymer shell, the SiO2@Y2O3 core-shell particles are obtained. Results reveal that the shell thickness of these core-shell particles is higher and more uniform than that of particles prepared without sacrificial polymer shell.  相似文献

Fabricating perfect plasmonic nanostructures has been a major challenge in surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) research. Here, a double‐layer stacked Au/Al2O3@Au nanosphere structures is designed on the silicon wafer to bring high density, high intensity “hot spots” effect. A simply reproducible high‐throughput approach is shown to fabricate feasibly this plasmonic nanostructures by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) and atomic layer deposition process (ALD). The double‐layer stacked Au nanospheres construct a three‐dimensional plasmonic nanostructure with tunable nanospacing and high‐density nanojunctions between adjacent Au nanospheres by ultrathin Al2O3 isolation layer, producing highly strong plasmonic coupling so that the electromagnetic near‐field is greatly enhanced to obtain a highly uniform increase of SERS with an enhancement factor (EF) of over 107. Both heterogeneous nanosphere group (Au/Al2O3@Ag) and pyramid‐shaped arrays structure substrate can help to increase the SERS signals further, with a EF of nearly 109. These wafer‐scale, high density homo/hetero‐metal‐nanosphere arrays with tunable nanojunction between adjacent shell‐isolated nanospheres have significant implications for ultrasensitive Raman detection, molecular electronics, and nanophotonics.  相似文献

Rhodamine (Rh6G) dye-silica core-shell nanoparticles (DSCSNPs) have been prepared by the controlled hydrolysis and condensation of single silica precursor tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) using the sol-gel method. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis reveal that dye molecules are entrapped in silica (SiO2) shell resulting into core-shell particles of ∼30 nm diameter. These particles are also characterized by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy. The results indicate that core-shell particles are all in spherical shape and have a narrow size distribution. The fluorescent and optical properties of core-shell particles have been investigated using fluorescence and UV-Visible absorption spectra. The photoluminescence in solid or liquid medium occurs at the same wavelength. The SiO2 shell restricts the leakage and photobleaching of dye efficiently. These core-shell nanoparticles are found to be highly luminescent and stable.  相似文献

Shell‐isolated nanoparticle‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SHINERS), due to its versatility, has been able to break the long‐term limitations of the material‐ and substrate‐specific generalities in the traditional field of surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy. With a shell‐isolated work principle, this method provides an opportunity to investigate successfully in surface, biological systems, energetic materials, and environmental sciences. Both the shell material and core morphology are being improved continuously to meet the requirements in diverse systems, such as the electrochemical studies at single crystal electrode surfaces, in situ monitoring of photoinduced reaction processes, practical applications in energy conversion and storage, inspections in food safety, and the surface‐enhanced fluorescence. Predictably, the concept of shell‐isolated nanoparticle‐enhancement could be expanded to the wider range for the performance of plasmon‐enhanced spectral modifications.  相似文献

Metal oxides have advantages over the traditional noble metals to be used as substrate materials for surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) with low cost, versatility, and biocompatibility, but their enhancement factors are generally quite low with a poor limit of detection. Here, ultrathin molybdenum dioxide (MoO2) nanosheets synthesized by chemical vapor deposition demonstrated in large area are used as SERS substrates with superior signal uniformity in the whole area with a limit of detectable concentration down to 4 × 10?8m and enhancement factor up to 2.1 × 105, exceeding that of 2D materials and comparable to that of noble metal films. More practically important, the planar MoO2 substrate is more robust than noble metals and shows excellent reusability and uniformity, which is usually prohibited for nanostructured or nanoparticle‐based metal oxide substrates. The enhancement is mainly attributed to the surface plasmon resonance effect as evidenced by the first principle calculations and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy characterization, which can be further increased by decreasing the thickness of the MoO2 nanosheets. The overall superior performance makes the MoO2 nanosheets an ideal substrate for practical SERS applications.  相似文献

ZnO-core/SiOx shell nanowires were successfully fabricated and their morphology, structure, Raman and photoluminescence properties were examined. Not only the sputter-coated product had an one-dimensional morphology, but the tubular structure of SiOx shell was also continuous, smooth, and uniform, along the core nanowires. It was found that two fundamental modes (334, 437 cm−1) and 2 s order modes (1106, 1156 cm−1) of hexagonal ZnO appeared in the Raman spectrum of ZnO-core/SiOx shell nanowires. The photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of the core-shell nanowires were deconvoluted into three Gassian functions, centered at 382, 500, and 758 nm, whether the subsequent thermal annealing was performed or not. The integrated intensities of UV (382 nm) and green (758 nm) emissions were changed by means of the shell-coating and thermal annealing. We have discussed the possible emission mechanisms.  相似文献

The discovery of Pickering emulsion templated assembly enables the design of a hybrid colloidal capsule with engineered properties. However, the underlying mechanisms by which nanoparticles affect the mechanical properties of the shell are poorly understood. Herein, in situ mechanical compression on the transmission electron microscope and aberration‐corrected scanning transmission microscope are unprecedentedly implemented to study the intrinsic effect of nanoparticles on the mechanical properties of the calcium carbonate (CaCO3)‐decorated silica (SiO2) colloidal capsule. The stiff and brittle nature of the colloidal capsule is due to the interfacial chemical bonding between the CaCO3 nanoparticles and SiO2 inner shell. Such bonding strengthens the mechanical strength of the SiO2 shell (166 ± 14 nm) from the colloidal capsule compared to the thicker single SiO2 shell (310 ± 70 nm) from the silica hollow sphere. At elevated temperature, this interfacial bonding accelerates the formation of the single calcium silicate shell, causing shell morphology transformation and yielding significantly enhanced mechanical strength by 30.9% and ductility by 94.7%. The superior thermal durability of the heat‐treated colloidal capsule holds great potential for the fabrication of the functional additives that can be applied in the wide range of applications at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

The control of coating shell becoming important to improve the applicability of magnetic nanoparticles. Herein, we present the scalable technique for preparing MgFe2O4/SiO2 core-shell nanospheres with finely tuned shell thickness and their efficiency in magnetic hyperthermia heating agent. At first, MgFe2O4 dense nanosphere derived from one-step ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) technique. Silica shells were then coated on the as prepared nanospheres with tunable thickness from 10 to 30 nm. We show that the thickness of this coating is finely controlled at allowing our proposed level by using the required amount of SiO2 precursor (SiC8H20O4)/acidic catalyst (HCl) ratio where the surface area of core nanospheres are significantly considered. X-ray diffraction reveals the cubic spinel ferrite structure of core particles with crystallite size 9.6 ± 1.8 nm and Fourier transform infrared spectrum analysis confirmed the formation of SiO2. The morphological observation clarified the uniform and smooth SiO2 shell where core-shell nanostructure is highly monodispersed in a liquid medium. M-H loops confirmed the superparamagnetic nature of all samples at room temperature. Significantly reduced ion release concentration in an aqueous solvent of the coated nanospheres compared with uncoated sample demonstrates the hermetically coating feature of dense SiO2. This MgFe2O4/SiO2 core-shell nanospheres with thine SiO2 shell (10 nm) shows effective heating rate in the operative region (<46 °C) which makes them promising candidates for application as magnetic hyperthermia heating agent.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) integrates high levels of sensitivity with spectroscopic precision, and thus, has tremendous potential for chemical and biomolecular sensing. The key to the wider application of Raman spectroscopy using roughened metallic surfaces is the development of highly enhancing substrates for analytical purposes, i.e., for better detection sensitivity of trace contaminants and pollutants. Here, we have prepared Au, Ag, AuAg multilayer, and Au@Ag films on glass substrates for SERS-active substrates. The Au@Ag film shows a much stronger SERS signal for trans-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (BPE) molecules than those from pure Au, Ag, and AuAg films, indicating the Au@Ag film is more powerful than pure Au, Ag, and AuAg film as SERS active substrates. The enhanced surface Raman scattering signals were attributed to the local field enhancement in the core-shell structure.  相似文献

Plasmonic metal nanostructures are widely used as subwavelength light concentrators to enhance light harvesting of organic solar cells through two photophysical effects, including enhanced local electric field (ELEF) and antenna‐amplified light scattering (AALS), while their adverse quenching effect from surface energy transfer (SET) should be suppressed. In this work, a comprehensive study to unambiguously distinguish and quantitatively determine the specific influence and contribution of each effect on the overall performance of organic solar cells incorporated with Ag@SiO2 core–shell nanoparticles (NPs) is presented. By investigating the photon conversion efficiency (PCE) as a function of the SiO2 shell thickness, a strong competition between the ELEF and SET effects in the performance of the devices with the NPs embedded in the active layers is found, leading to a maximum PCE enhancement of 12.4% at the shell thickness of 5 nm. The results give new insights into the fundamental understanding of the photophysical mechanisms responsible for the performance enhancement of plasmonic organic solar cells and provide important guidelines for designing more‐efficient plasmonic solar cells in general.  相似文献

A surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)‐assisted 3D barcode chip has been developed for high‐throughput biosensing. The 3D barcode is realized through joint 2D spatial encoding with the Raman spectroscopic encoding, which stores the SERS fingerprint information in the format of a 2D array. Here, the concept of SERS‐assisted 3D barcode is demonstrated through multiplex immunoassay, where simultaneous detection of multiple targets in different samples has been achieved using a microfluidic platform. First, multiple proteins in different samples are spatially separated using a microfluidic patterned antibody barcode substrate, forming a 2D hybridization array. Then the SERS probes are used to identify and quantify the proteins. As different SERS probes are labeled with different Raman reporters, they could be employed as “SERS tags” to incorporate spectroscopic information into the 3D barcode. In this 3D barcode, the 2D spatial information helps to differentiate the samples and targets while the SERS information allows quantitative multiplex detection. It is found that the SERS‐assisted 3D barcode chip can not only accomplish one‐step multiplex detection within 30 min but also achieve an ultrasensitivity down to 10 fg mL?1 (≈70 aM), which is expected to provide a promising tool for high‐throughput biomedical applications.  相似文献

Plasmonically coupled graphene structures have shown great promise for sensing applications. Their complex and cumbersome fabrication, however, has prohibited their widespread application and limited their use to rigid, planar surfaces. Here, a plasmonic sensor based on gold nanowire arrays on an elastomer with an added graphene monolayer is introduced. The stretchable plasmonic nanostructures not only significantly enhance the Raman signal from graphene, but can also be used by themselves as a sensor platform for 2D strain sensing. These nanowire arrays on an elastomer are fabricated by template‐stripping based nanotransfer printing, which enables a simple and fast production of stable nanogratings. The ultrasmooth surfaces of such transferred structures facilitate reliable large‐area transfers of graphene monolayers. The resulting coupled graphene‐nanograting construct exhibits ultrahigh sensitivity to applied strain, which can be detected by shifts in the plasmonic‐enhanced Raman spectrum. Furthermore, this sensor enables the detection of adsorbed molecules on nonplanar surfaces through graphene‐assisted surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The simple fabrication of the plasmonic nanowire array platform and the graphene‐coupled devices have the potential to trigger widespread SERS applications and open up new opportunities for high‐sensitivity strain sensing applications.  相似文献
