Experimental investigation on heat transfer and friction factor characteristics of micro-finned tube fitted with full-length twisted tape and left–right twisted tape inserts of twist ratio 7.44, 8.27 and 11.17 has been presented. The experimental data obtained were compared with those obtained from plain tube published data. The heat transfer coefficient enhancement for left–right twisted inserts is higher than that for full-length twisted tape inserts for a given twist ratio. The empirical correlation for Nusselt number, friction relating Reynolds number and twist ratio was formed for both twisted tape inserts and left–right inserts and found to fit the experimental data within ±3.6% and ±2.5% for Nusselt number and ±7% and ±8.5% friction factor, respectively. Performance evaluation analysis was made and the maximum performance ratio was obtained for left–right twisted tape inserts.  相似文献

Experimental investigation of heat transfer, friction factor and thermal performance of thermosyphon solar water heater system fitted with helical twisted tape of various twist ratios has been performed and presented. The helical twisted tape induces swirl flow inside the riser tubes, which increases the heat transfer and pressure drop. The empirical correlations developed for Nusselt number and friction factor with various twist ratios (Y = 3, 4, 5, 6) are fitted with the experimental data with a discrepancy of less than ±4.54% and ±6.13% respectively. The results are compared with a plain tube collector at the same operating conditions. Conclusions made from the results show that heat transfer enhancement in twisted tape collector is higher than the plain tube collector with minimum twist ratio and gradually decreases with increase in twist ratio. The overall thermal performance of twisted tape collector is found to increase with increase in solar intensity.  相似文献

Experimental investigation of heat transfer, friction factor and thermal performance of thermosyphon solar water heater system fitted with helical and Left–Right twist of twist ratio 3 has been performed and presented. The helical twisted tape induces swirl flow inside the riser tubes unidirectional over the length. But, in Left–Right system the swirl flow is bidirectional which increases the heat transfer and pressure drop when compared to the helical system. The experimental heat transfer and friction factors characteristics are validated with theoretical equations and the deviation falls with in the acceptable limits. The results show that heat transfer enhancement in twisted tape collector is higher than the plain tube collector. Compared to helical and Left–Right twisted tape system of same twist ratio 3, maximum thermal performance is obtained for Left–Right twisted tape collector with increase in solar intensity.  相似文献

An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the effect of twisted tape inserts on heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop in a horizontal tube during swirl flow boiling of R-134a. The test-evaporator was an electrically heated horizontal copper tube and twisted tapes with different twist ratios of 6, 9, 12 and 15 were inserted one by one. The data were acquired at the refrigerant mass velocities of 54, 86, 114 and 136 kg/s m2. The twisted tape inserts increases the boiling heat transfer coefficients and the pressure drop across the test-evaporator. An empirical correlation has also been developed to predict the swirl flow pressure drop in the test-evaporator.  相似文献

Experiments are performed to investigate the impact of inserts (TTI, TBI, and TBHI) accompanied by different twist ratios (ie, y/w = 3.69, 4.39, and 5.25) with uniform heat flux condition to study the performance characteristics of pressure drop, rate of heat flow, and heat transfer enhancement. Experiments were carried out on different twisted tape inserts in a turbulent flow regime by choosing suitable Reynolds number between 3100 and 39 000. A plain tube is tested and compared with the empirical correlations and are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. In the case of twisted tape inserts stronger swirl flow is observed along the length of the tube. The variation of reduction in pressure along the length of tube and heat flux in the form of the friction factor and Nusselt number are represented graphically. Thermal performance factor tends to increase with a decrease in the taper twist ratio. The maximum enhancement in Nusselt number and friction factor was found to be in the case of TBI and TBHI. Experimental results are justified and are found to be reliable and accurate with the analytical results, with ±5% and ±4.2% deviation for Dittus‐Boelter and Petukhov correlation in the case of Nusselt number and ±7.2% deviation, respectively, for loss in the friction.  相似文献

Experimental investigation of heat transfer, friction factor and thermal performance of twisted tape solar water heater with various twist ratios has been conducted and the results are compared with plain tube collector for the same operating conditions with Reynolds number varied from 3000 to 23,000. Experimental data from plain tube collector is validated with the fundamental equations and found that the discrepancy is less than ±5.35% and ±8.80% for Nusselt number and friction factor, respectively. Correlations have been developed for Nusselt number and friction factor with various twist ratios (Y = 3, 4, 5, 6) and are compared with the experimental values. Results conclude that, heat transfer and pressure drop are higher in twisted tape collector compared to the plain one. Among the various twist ratios, the minimum twist ratio 3 is found to enhance the heat transfer and pressure drop due to swirl generation. As the twist ratio increases, the swirl generation decreases and minimizes the heat transfer and friction factor.  相似文献

Experiments to evaluate heat transfer coefficient and friction factor for flow in a tube and with twisted tape inserts in the transition range of flow with Al2O3 nanofluid are conducted. The results showed considerable enhancement of convective heat transfer with Al2O3 nanofluids compared to flow with water. It is observed that the equation of Gleninski applicable in transitional flow range for single-phase fluids showed considerable deviation when compared with values obtained with nanofluid. The heat transfer coefficient of nanofluid flowing in a tube with 0.1% volume concentration is 23.7% higher when compared with water at number of 9000. Heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop with nanofluid has been experimentally determined with tapes of different twist ratios and found to deviate with values obtained from equations developed for single-phase flow. A regression equation is developed to estimate the Nusselt number valid for both water and nanofluid flowing in the transition flow Reynolds number range in circular plain tube and with tape inserts. The maximum friction factor with twisted tape at 0.1% nanofluid volume concentration is 1.21 times that of water flowing in a plain tube.  相似文献

In this study an experimental investigation has been carried out to analyze the laminar forced convection of Al2O3/water and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT)/water nanofluids through uniformly heated horizontal circular pipe with helical twisted tape inserts. Tests were conducted for varied range of nanoparticle volume concentration (0.15%, 0.45%, 0.60%, and 1%) and helical tape inserts of twist ratios of 1.5, 2.5, and 3. The heat transfer enhancement and the increase of friction factor of nanofluids with helical inserts are compared with that of pure water results with plain tube without inserts. The Nusselt number is found to increase with the increase in Peclet number and nanofluid concentration. The MWCNT/water nanofluids with helical screw tape inserts exhibits higher thermal performance compared to Al2O3/water nanofluid. The maximum thermal performance factor was found to be 1.79 and 1.99 for Al2O3/water and MWCNT/water nanofluids with helical twisted tape inserts, respectively. The pressure drop for Al2O3 nanofluid is found to be higher compared to the MWCNT nanofluid for all the twist ratio of helical screw tape inserts.  相似文献

It is novel and better method that microencapsulated phase change material (MPCM) slurry and the tube with twisted tape inserts are adopted together to enhance convective heat transfer. In this paper, numerical analyses were carried out to study laminar heat transfer and friction characteristics of MPCM slurry in a circular tube with twisted tape inserts. It is found that the MPCM slurry in the tube with twisted tape insert leads to the best performance of convective heat transfer for the bigger apparent specific heat and the intensive swirl flow. Furthermore, the modified average Nusselt number increases with decreasing bulk Stefan number, twisted ratio and increasing Re, while the friction factor increases with increasing Re and decreasing twisted ratio. It is also found that the heat transfer enhanced efficiency increases with increasing Re and decreasing Steb, and the heat transfer enhancement effects of twisted tape for low Steb slurry are better than that for high Steb slurry. Moreover, the thermal-hydraulic performance ratios increase to a peak, then decrease gradually with increasing Re for different twist ratio. The performance ratio increases with decreasing the twist ratio only in a definite Re range, and the Re range decreases with decreasing twist ratio.  相似文献

Heat transfer augmentation in heat exchangers has received much attention in recent years, mainly due to energy efficiency and environmental considerations. Many active and passive techniques are currently being employed in heat exchangers, with twisted tape inserts providing a cost-effective and efficient means of augmenting heat transfer. This article describes how the single-phase heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics were determined for an angled spiraling tape that was inserted into the annulus of a tube-in-tube heat exchanger. Four sets of experimental measurements were taken: a normal tube-in-tube heat exchanger that was used as a reference and three heat exchangers with different angled spiraling tape inserts. Semiempirical heat transfer and pressure drop correlations were derived that predict the experimental data to within 4.3%. The angled spiraling tape inserts resulted in an increase in the heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop penalties, which varied with tape pitch and the direction of flow relative to the tape curvature. The smallest pich (25 mm) produced the greatest heat transfer enhancement (206%) and pressure drop penalty (203%). The heat exchanger with the largest pitch (100 mm) produced the lowest heat transfer enhancement (70%) and a corresponding low pressure drop penalty (58%).  相似文献
