Compared to the conventional thermal units and electrolytic devices, reversible fuel cells have very high efficiencies on both fuel cell mode of generating electricity and electrolysis mode of producing hydrogen or CHx. However, previous studies about fuel cells and its benefits of power to gas are not fully investigated in the electricity-gas energy system. Moreover, state-of-art studies indicate that hydrogen could be directly injected to the existing natural gas (NG) pipeline within an amount of 5%–20%, which are considered to make a slight influence on the natural gas technologies. This work proposes a novel electricity-hydrogen energy system based on reversible solid oxide cells (RSOCs) to demonstrate the future vision of multi-energy systems on integrating multiple energy carriers such as electricity, pure hydrogen, synthetic natural gas (SNG) and mixed gas of H2-natural gas. The P2G processes of RSOC are sub-divided modelled by power to H2 (P2H) and power to SNG (P2SNG). The co-electrolysis/generation processes and time-dependent start-up costs are considered within a unit commitment model of RSOC. The proposed electricity-hydrogen energy system optimization model is formulated as mixed-integer linear programming (MILP), where the H2-blended mixed gas flow is linearized by an incremental linearize relaxation technic. The aim of the optimization is to reduce the energy cost and enhance the system's ability to integrate sufficient renewables through NG networks. Besides quantified the benefits of renewable level and H2 injection limit on the P2G process, the numerical results show that RSOC combined with H2/SNG injection results in productive economic and environmental benefits through the energy system.  相似文献

Green hydrogen, i.e. the hydrogen generated from renewable energy sources (RES) will significantly contribute to a successful energy transition. Besides, to facilitate the integration and storage of RES, this promising energy carrier is well capable to efficiently link various energy sectors. By introduction of green hydrogen as a new flexibility source to power systems, it is necessary to investigate its possible impacts on the generation scheduling and power system security. In this paper, a security-constrained multi-period optimal power flow (SC-MPOPF) model is developed aiming to determine the optimal hourly dispatch of generators as well as power to hydrogen (P2H) units in the presence of large-scale renewable energy sources (RES). The proposed model characterizes the P2H demand flexibility in the proposed SC-MPOPF model, taking into account the electrolyzer behavior, reactive power support of P2H demands and hydrogen storage capability. The developed SC-MPOPF model is applied to IEEE 39-bus system and the obtained numerical results demonstrate the role of P2H flexibility on cost as well as RES's power curtailment reduction.  相似文献

With the transformation of energy structure, the proportion of renewable energy in the power grid continues to increase. However, the power grid's capacity to absorb renewable is limited. In view of this, converting the excess renewable energy into hydrogen and injecting it into natural gas network for transportation can not only increase the absorption capacity of renewable energy but also reduce the transportation cost of hydrogen. While this can lead to the problem that hydrogen injection will make the dynamic characteristics of the pipeline more complicated, and hydrogen embrittlement of pipeline may occur. It is of great significance to simulate the dynamic characteristics of gas pipeline with hydrogen injection, especially the hydrogen mixture ratio. In this paper, the cell segmentation method is used to solve each natural gas pipeline model, the gas components are recalculated in each cell and the parameters of partial differential equation are updated. Additionally, the dynamic simulation model of natural gas network with hydrogen injections is established. Simulation results show that for a single pipeline, when the inlet hydrogen ratio changes, whether or not hydrogen injection has little influence on the pressure and flow. The propagation speed of hydrogen concentration is far less than that of the pressure and flow rate, and it takes about 1.2 × 105 s for the 100 km pipeline hydrogen ratio to reach the steady state again.  相似文献

The growth in demand for the production of heat and electricity requires an increase in fuel consumption by power equipment. At the moment, the most demanded thermal equipment for construction and modernization is gas turbine units. Gas turbines can burn a variety of fuels (natural gas, synthesis gas, methane), but the main fuel is natural gas of various compositions. The use of alternative fuels makes it possible to reduce CO2 and NOx emissions during the operation of a gas turbine. Under conditions of operation of thermal power plants at the wholesale power market, it becomes probable that combined cycle power units, designed to carry base load, will start to operate in variable modes. Variable operation modes lead to a decrease in the efficiency of power equipment. One way to minimize or eliminate equipment unloading is to install an electrolysis unit to produce hydrogen. In this article the technology of “Power to gas” production with the necessary pressure at the outlet of 30 kgf/cm2 (this pressure is necessary for stable operation of the fuel preparation system of the gas turbine) is considered. High cost of hydrogen fuel during production affects the final cost of heat and electric energy, therefore it is necessary to burn hydrogen in mixture with natural gas. Burning a mixture of 5% hydrogen fuel and 95% natural gas requires minimal changes in the design of the gas turbine, it is necessary to supplement the fuel preparation system (install a cleaning system, compression for hydrogen fuel). In addition, the produced hydrogen can be stored, transported to the consumer. For the possibility of combustion of a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen fuel in a gas turbine the methodology of calculation of thermodynamic properties of working bodies developed by a team of authors under the guidance of Academician RAS (the Russian Academy of Sciences) V.E. Alemasov has been adapted, resulting in a program that allows to obtain an adequate mathematical model of the gas turbine. The permissible range of the working body temperature is limited to 3000 K. This paper presents the developed all-mode mathematical model of a gas turbine. On the basis of mathematical modeling of a gas turbine, a change in the main energy and environmental characteristics is shown depending on the composition of the fuel gas. Adding 5% hydrogen to natural gas has little effect on the gas turbine air treatment system, the flow rate remains virtually unchanged. CO2 emissions decrease, but there is an increase in the amount of H2O in the turbine exhaust gases.  相似文献

Hydrogen energy carriers such as liquid hydrogen (LH2), methylcyclohexane (MCH), and ammonia (NH3) are promising energy vectors in the clean energy systems currently being developed. However, their effectiveness in mitigating environmental emissions must be assessed by life cycle analyses throughout the supply chain. In this study, while focusing on hydrogen energy carriers, life cycle inventory analyses were conducted to estimate CO2 emissions from the following types of power generation plants in Japan: a hydrogen (H2) mono-firing power plant using LH2 or MCH that originated from overseas renewable electricity; and NH3 co-firing with fossil fuel and NH3 mono-firing power plants using hydrogen energy carriers that originated from overseas natural gas or renewable electricity. Parameters related to the supply chains were collected by literature surveys, and the Japanese life cycle inventory database was primarily used to calculate the emissions. From the results, CO2 hotspots of the target supply chains and potential measures are identified that become necessary to establish low-carbon supply chains.  相似文献

Storing renewable energy sources is becoming a very important issue to allow a further reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Most of such energy sources generate electric power which not always can be conveniently transferred to the grid and also its conversion to hydrogen presents some critical aspects connected mainly to hydrogen distribution and storage.Electrolysis generates not only hydrogen, but also oxygen which could be used to burn biomass or waste products (oxycombustion) in power plants with the result to obtain an exhaust gas containing mainly water and CO2. This last can be converted into a mixture of methane and hydrogen by reacting with electrolytic hydrogen, so that the power used for electrolysis is stored into a fuel which can be distributed and stored just like natural gas.In this paper, an innovative biomass fuelled plant has been designed and simulated for different layouts with an internal combustion engine as a main power system. Utilizing hydrogen and oxygen produced through electrolysis and applying a hydrogasification process, the plant produces electricity and a substitute of natural gas. The result of such simulations is that the electricity can be stored in a useful and versatile fuel with a marginal efficiency up to 60%.  相似文献

The cost of large scale hydrogen production from electrolysis is dominated by the cost of electricity, representing 77–89% of the total costs. The integration of low-cost renewable energy is thus essential to affordable and clean hydrogen production from electrolysis. Flexible operation of electrolysis and hydro power can facilitate integration of remote energy resources by providing the flexibility that is needed in systems with large amounts of variable renewable energy. The flexibility from hydro power is limited by the physical complexities of the river systems and ecological concerns which makes the flexibility not easily quantifiable. In this work we investigate how different levels of flexibility from hydro power affects the cost of hydrogen production. We develop a two-stage stochastic model in a rolling horizon framework that enables us to consider the uncertainty in wind power production, energy storage and the structure of the energy market when simulating power system operation. This model is used for studying hydrogen production from electrolysis in a future scenario of a remote region in Norway with large wind power potential. A constant demand of hydrogen is assumed and flexibility in the electrolysis operation is enabled by hydrogen storage. Different levels of hydro power flexibility are considered by following a reservoir guiding curve every hour, 6 h or 24 h.Results from the case study show that hydrogen can be produced at a cost of 1.89 €/kg in the future if hydro power production is flexible within a period of 24 h, fulfilling industry targets. Flexible hydrogen production also contributes to significantly reducing wasted energy from spillage from reservoirs or wind power curtailment by up to 56% for 24 h of flexibility. The results also show that less hydro power flexibility results in increased flexible operation of the electrolysis plant where it delivers 39–46% more regulating power, operates more on higher power levels and stores more hydrogen.  相似文献

This paper presents an efficient framework for converting renewable energy to gas and reducing Carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint at the same time. The problem is presented in two levels. The first level is a minimization programming that minimizes operational cost and CO2 of generators. The CO2 is forwarded to the second level. In the second level, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is designed to capture CO2. The CO2 is combined with Hydrogen and makes Methane (CH4). The required Hydrogen is obtained from water electrolyzer that is supplied by the solar system. The capacity and size of water electrolyzer, solar system, and CCS is designed by the planning in the second level while this programming maximizes profit from selling Methane. As a result, the first level presents minimization programming (i.e., minimizing cost and CO2) and the second level presents maximization programming (i.e., maximizing profit). The programming is developed taking into account solar uncertainty. The stochastic programming is implemented to cope with uncertainties. The problem is formulated as binary mixed integer linear programming and solved by GAMS software. The proposed power to gas (P2G) procedure efficiently designs proper solar system and deals with intermittency of solar energy, reduces CO2 footprint, maximizes profit, and minimizes operational cost of generators at the same time.  相似文献

In this paper, a method is proposed for reforming fuels to hydrogen using solar energy at distributed locations (industrial sites, residential and commercial buildings fed with natural gas, remote settlements supplied by propane etc). In order to harness solar energy a solar concentrator is used to generate high temperature heat to reform fuels to hydrogen. A typical fuel such as natural gas, propane, methanol, or an atypical fuel such as ammonia or urea can be transported to distributed locations via gas networks or other means. The thermodynamic analysis of the process shows the general reformation reactions for NH3, CH4 and C3H8 as the input fuel by comparison through operational fuel cost and CO2 mitigation indices. Through a cost analysis, cost reduction indices show fuel-usage cost reductions of 10.5%, 22.1%, and 22.2% respectively for the reformation of ammonia, methane, and propane. CO2 mitigation indices show fuel-usage CO2 mitigations of 22.1% and 22.3% for methane and propane respectively, where ammonia reformation eliminates CO2 emission at the fuel-usage stage. The option of reforming ammonia is examined in further detail as proposed cycles for solar energy capture are considered. A mismatch of specific heats from the solar dish is observed between incoming and outgoing streams, allowing a power production system to be included for a more complete energy capture. Further investigation revealed the most advantageous system with a direct expansion turbine being considered rather than an external power cycle such as Brayton or Rankine type cycles. Also, an energy efficiency of approximately 93% is achievable within the reformation cycle.  相似文献

Gasification is a promising conversion technology to deliver high energy efficiency simultaneously with low energy and cost penalties for carbon capture. This paper is devoted to in-depth economic evaluations of pre- and post-combustion Calcium Looping (CaL) configurations for Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plants. The poly-generation capability, e.g. hydrogen and power co-generation, is also discussed. The post-combustion CaL option is a gasification power plant in which the flue gases from the gas turbine are treated for CO2 capture in a carbonation–calcination cycle. In pre-combustion CaL option, the Sorbent Enhanced Water Gas Shift (SEWGS) feature is used to produce hydrogen which is used for power generation. As benchmark case, a conventional gasification power plant without carbon capture was considered. Net power output of evaluated cases is in the range of 550–600 MW with more than 95% carbon capture rate. The pre-combustion capture configuration was evaluated also in hydrogen and power co-generation scenario. The evaluations are concentrated for estimation of capital costs, specific investment cost, operational & maintenance (O&M) costs, CO2 removal and avoidance costs, electricity costs, sensitivity analysis of technical and economic assumptions on key economic indicators etc.  相似文献

Spain has presented a plan (known as PNIEC) to reduce conventional energy sources (shutting down 16 GW) and to increase the use of renewable sources (incorporating 65 GW). This generation portfolio leads to a situation in which there will be a surplus of electrical energy in spring and summer, which will be lacking in autumn and winter. The plan sets a target on batteries, but insufficient to manage more than 10 TWh over 6 months. This paper proposes the deployment of electrolysers to produce hydrogen with the surplus energy, using the already existing Spanish natural gas network to store it. The resulting gas (up to 15% blend of hydrogen in natural gas) could be used subsequently in turbines to alleviate the energy deficit. With this strategy, up to 7.27 TWh of the surplus renewable energy could be reused, and 2.54 million tons of CO2 equivalent would be avoided yearly.  相似文献

Concentrating solar power (CSP) plants require thermal energy storage (TES) systems to produce electricity during the night and periods of cloud cover. The high energy density of high-temperature metal hydrides (HTMHs) compared to state-of-the-art two-tank molten salt systems has recently promoted their investigation as TES systems. A common challenge associated with high-temperature metal hydride thermal energy storage systems (HTMH TES systems) is storing the hydrogen gas until it is required by the HTMH to generate heat. Low-temperature metal hydrides can be used to store the hydrogen but can comprise a significant proportion of the overall system cost and they also require thermal management, which increases the engineering complexity. In this work, the potential of using a hydrogen compressor and large-scale underground hydrogen gas storage using either salt caverns or lined rock caverns has been assessed for a number of magnesium- and sodium-based hydrides: MgH2, Mg2FeH6, NaMgH3, NaMgH2F and NaH. Previous work has assumed that the sensible heat of the hydrogen released from the HTMH would be stored in a small, inexpensive regenerative material system. However, we show that storing the sensible heat of the hydrogen released would add between US$3.6 and US$7.5/kWhth to the total system cost for HTMHs operating at 565 °C. If the sensible heat of released hydrogen is instead exploited to perform work then there is a flow-on cost reduction for each component of the system. The HTMHs combined with underground hydrogen storage all have specific installed costs that range between US$13.7 and US$26.7/kWhth which is less than that for current state-of-the-art molten salt heat storage. Systems based on the HTMHs Mg2FeH6 or NaH have the most near term and long term potential to meet SunShot cost targets for CSP thermal energy storage. Increasing the operating temperature and hydrogen equilibrium pressure of the HTMH is the most effective means to reduce costs further.  相似文献

Hydrogen is gradually becoming one of the important carriers of global energy transformation and development. To analyze the influence of the hydrogen storage module (HSM) on the operation of the gas-electricity integrated energy system, a comprehensive energy system model consisting of wind turbines, gas turbines, power-to-hydrogen (P2H) unit, and HSM is proposed in this paper. The model couples the natural gas network and power grid bidirectionally, and establishes a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem considering HSM. The linearization model of the natural gas pipeline flow equation and the generator set equation is constructed by piecewise linearization method to improve the efficiency of solving the model. And the energy flow distribution in the gas-electricity integrated energy system is finally solved. In Model 1, compared with not considering the installation of P2H units, when the hydrogen doping ratio is 10%, the operating cost can be reduced by 6.63%, and the wind curtailment cost can be reduced by 17.54%, and the carbon emission can be reduced by 298.7 tons. The optimization results of Model 2 reveal that compared with no HSM, the system operating cost is reduced by 5.96%, the hydrogen content level in the natural gas pipeline network is increased by 42.12%, and the carbon emission of the system is reduced by 117.6 tons, and the fluctuation of wind power is suppressed. This study demonstrates the feasibility of large-scale absorption of renewable energy through HSM.  相似文献

Hydrogen economy is one of the most attractive alternatives to the current carbon-based energy system, since it can be produced from diverse resources and used as a carbon-free energy carrier from the end-user's perspective. This study proposes a hybrid hydrogen supply system for the transport sector, which includes all the life stages from production, transport, and storage to final distribution (fueling stations). Particularly, we consider two types of resources for hydrogen production (i.e., renewable wind power and conventional natural gas) to identify the benefits and bottlenecks of hydrogen supply systems from the economic, environmental, and social perspectives. To achieve this goal, rigorous process models for the involved processes (i.e., hydrogen production by steam methane reforming from natural gas and water electrolysis using wind power, and hydrogen storage and transport) are developed. To illustrate the capability of the proposed system, we conducted a design problem within the hydrogen supply system in Jeju Island, Korea. In this case study, three scenarios were generated by combining different hydrogen production options: 1) wind power-based hydrogen production, 2) natural gas-based hydrogen production, and 3) integrated hydrogen production. As a result, we discussed the optimal hydrogen supply system, from the life cycle perspective, by identifying technical bottlenecks, major cost-drivers, and CO2 burdens.  相似文献

Synthetic methane is a major energy carrier having high energy density and can potentially replace fossil fuels. In this study, a solar-to-gas conversion system was developed using CO2 and solar-based hydrogen to meet the present energy demands. However, high reaction temperature induced by the inlet reactant gases can affect catalyst performance and cost of investment. Thus, we investigated power consumption of the reactor operating temperature for the system. The influence of hydrogen generation rates (GRH2) on the Sabatier reaction was analyzed, and the concentration of methane and total power consumption of the methanation system was highlighted. The highest methane concentrations were observed at 0.337 and 0.449 NL/min of GRH2. Subsequently, high methane composition (98.4%) was observed at 220 °C and 0.449 NL/min of GRH2. Therefore, methanation system with solar-based hydrogen can effectively distribute synthetic methane to the gas grid.  相似文献

A power grid with a lower global warming impact has the potential to extend its benefits to energy systems that conventionally do not utilize electricity as their primary energy source. This study presents the case of Ontario where the role of complementing policies in transitioning electricity systems is assessed. The policy cost to incentivize surplus low emission electricity via an established mechanism for the transportation sector has been estimated (Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle Incentive Program). It is estimated that the 9056 (4760 battery and 4296 plug-in hybrid) electric vehicles that qualified for incentives from the provincial government at the end of 2016 vehicles cost $732.5-$883.9 to reduce a tonne of CO2,e emissions over an eight year lifetime. This is then compared with the potential cost incurred by two power to gas energy hubs that utilize clean surplus electricity from the province to offset emissions within the natural gas sector. The use of hydrogen-enriched natural gas and synthetic natural gas (SNG) offsets emissions at $87.8 and $228.7 per tonne of CO2,e in the natural gas sector. This analysis highlights the potential future costs for incentivizing new clean technologies such as electric vehicles and power to gas energy hubs in jurisdictions with a transitioning electricity system.  相似文献

Wind is a variable and uncontrollable source of power with a low capacity factor. Using energy storage facilities with a non-firm connection strategy is the key to maximum integration of distant wind farms into a transmission-constrained power system. In this paper, we explore the application of energy storage in optimal allocation of wind capacity to a power system from distant wind sites. Energy storage decreases transmission connection requirements, smoothes the wind farm output and decreases the wind energy curtailments in a non-firm wind capacity allocation strategy. Specifically, we examine the use of compressed air energy storage (CAES) technology to supplement wind farms and downsize the transmission connection requirements. Benders decomposition approach is applied to decompose this computationally challenging and large-scale mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) into smaller problems. The simulation results show that using energy storage systems can decrease the variation of wind farms output as well as the total cost, including investment and operation costs, and increase the wind energy penetration into the power system.  相似文献

In modern power systems, the reliability of energy supplies is a real challenge for the operators. The emergence of renewable energy resources, along with multi-career users, requires multi-career systems. In this regard, the energy hub (EH) as an integrated system can be used to increase the reliability of the system. The power-to-gas (P2G) and P2G storage are two practical technologies to achieve high efficiency in energy systems. In this paper, the contribution is optimal scheduling of stochastic problem in EH system amalgamated with CHP unit, P2G storage, thermal storage, boiler, wind power, and electrical storage to supply the heat, gas, and power loads by regarding demand response program (DRP). For the electrical loads, the load shifting strategy is considered to minimize the operational cost of the EH system. In order to manage related uncertainties about electricity price, wind power, and electrical loads, the downside risk constraint (DRC) method is applied to investigate the EH system function. According to the obtained results, by increasing approximately 2.8% of the operational cost, the risk level can be reduced remarkably. And also, almost 10% of the energy shifted from peak hours to the off-peak time after DRP is applied.  相似文献

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities coupled to power plants provide a climate change mitigation strategy that potentially permits the continued use of fossil fuels whilst reducing the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This process involves three basic stages: capture and compression of CO2 from power stations, transport of CO2, and storage away from the atmosphere for hundreds to thousands of years. Potential routes for the capture, transport and storage of CO2 from United Kingdom (UK) power plants are examined. Six indicative options are evaluated, based on ‘Pulverised Coal’, ‘Natural Gas Combined Cycle’, and ‘Integrated (coal) Gasification Combined Cycle’ power stations. Chemical and physical CO2 absorption capture techniques are employed with realistic transport possibilities to ‘Enhanced Oil Recovery’ sites or depleted gas fields in the North Sea. The selected options are quantitatively assessed against well-established economic and energy-related criteria. Results show that CO2 capture can reduce emissions by over 90%. However, this will reduce the efficiency of the power plants concerned, incurring energy penalties between 14 and 30% compared to reference plants without capture. Costs of capture, transport and storage are concatenated to show that the whole CCS chain ‘cost of electricity’ (COE) rises by 27-142% depending on the option adopted. This is a significant cost increase, although calculations show that the average ‘cost of CO2 captured’ is £15/tCO2 in 2005 prices [the current base year for official UK producer price indices]. If potential governmental carbon penalties were introduced at this level, then the COE would equate to the same as the reference plant, and make CCS a viable option to help mitigate large-scale climate change.  相似文献

The operation of energy systems considering a multi-carrier scheme takes several advantages of economical, environmental, and technical aspects by utilizing alternative options is supplying different kinds of loads such as heat, gas, and power. This study aims to evaluate the influence of power to hydrogen conversion capability and hydrogen storage technology in energy systems with gas, power, and heat carriers concerning risk analysis. Accordingly, conditional value at risk (CVaR)-based stochastic method is adopted for investigating the uncertainty associated with wind power production. Hydrogen storage system, which can convert power to hydrogen in off-peak hours and to feed generators to produce power at on-peak time intervals, is studied as an effective solution to mitigate the wind power curtailment because of high penetration of wind turbines in electricity networks. Besides, the effect constraints associated with gas and district heating network on the operation of the multi-carrier energy systems has been investigated. A gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant and hydrogen storage are considered as the interconnections among power, gas and heat systems. The proposed framework is implemented on a system to verify the effectiveness of the model. The obtained results show the effectiveness of the model in terms of handling the risks associated with multi-carrier system parameters as well as dealing with the penetration of renewable resources.  相似文献
