The advanced oxidation process utilizing ultraviolet and hydrogen peroxide (UV/H2O2) is currently applied in commercial drinking water applications for the removal of various organic pollutants. Natural organic matter (NOM) present in the source water can also be oxidized and undergo changes at the fluence and H2O2 concentrations applied in commercial drinking water UV/H2O2 applications (fluences less than 2000 mJ cm−2, initial H2O2 concentrations less than 15 mg L−1). In this study, the impact of UV/H2O2 on NOM’s aromaticity, hydrophobicity, and potential to form trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs) was investigated for raw surface water and the same water with the very hydrophobic acid (VHA) fraction of NOM removed. During UV/H2O2 treatments, NOM in the raw surface water was partially oxidized to less aromatic and hydrophobic characteristics, but was not mineralized, confirming findings from past research. Below fluences of 1500 mJ cm−2 UV/H2O2 treatment of the raw water did not lead to reduction in the formation potential of THMs. The formation potential of HAAs was reduced at a fluence of 500 mJ cm−2 with only small additional reductions as fluence further increased. For the water from which the VHA fraction was removed, UV/H2O2 treatment led to mineralization of NOM suggesting that, when coupled with a pre-treatment capable of removing the VHA fraction, UV/H2O2 could achieve further reductions in NOM. These subsequent reductions in NOM led to continuous reductions in the formation potentials of THMs and HAAs as fluence increased.  相似文献

The kinetics of photodegradation of the pesticide metaldehyde by UV/H2O2 and UV/TiO2 in laboratory grade water and a natural surface water were studied. Experiments were carried out in a bench scale collimated beam device using UVC radiation. Metaldehyde was efficiently degraded by both processes in laboratory grade water at identical rates of degradation (0.0070 and 0.0067 cm2 mJ−1 for UV/TiO2 and UV/H2O2 respectively) when optimised doses were used. The ratio between oxidant and metaldehyde was significantly higher for H2O2 due to its low photon absorption efficiency at 254 nm. However, the presence of background organic compounds in natural water severely affected the rate of degradation, and whilst the pseudo first-order rate constant of degradation by UV/H2O2 was slowed down (0.0020 cm2 mJ−1), the degradation was completely inhibited for the UV/TiO2 process (k′ = 0.00007 cm2 mJ−1) due to the blockage of active sites on TiO2 surface by the background organic material.  相似文献

The degradation of geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) by UV irradiation at different wavelengths was investigated under varying boundary conditions. The results showed that conventional UV radiation (254 nm) is ineffective in removing these compounds from water. In contrast to the usual UV radiation UV/VUV radiation (254 + 185 nm) was more effective in the removal of the taste and odour compounds. The degradation could be described by a simple pseudo first-order rate law with rate constants of about 1.2 × 10−3 m2 J−1 for geosmin and 2-MIB in ultrapure water. In natural water used for drinking water abstraction the rate constants decreased to 2.7 × 10−4 m2 J−1 for geosmin and 2.5 × 10−4 m2 J−1 for 2-MIB due to the presence of NOM. Additionally, the formation of the by-product nitrite was studied. In the UV/VUV irradiation process up to 0.6 mg L−1 nitrite was formed during the complete photoinitiated oxidation of the odour compounds. However, the addition of low ozone doses could prevent the formation of nitrite in the UV/VUV irradiation experiments.  相似文献

Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection is being increasingly used in drinking water treatment. It is important to understand how its application to different types of water may influence finished water quality, particularly as anthropogenic activity continues to impact the quality of source waters. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of inorganic precursors on the formation of regulated and unregulated disinfection byproducts (DBPs) during UV irradiation of surface waters when combined with chlorination or chloramination. Samples were collected from three drinking water utilities supplied by source waters with varying organic and inorganic precursor content. The filtered samples were treated in the laboratory with a range of UV doses delivered from low pressure (LP, UV output at 253.7 nm) and medium pressure (MP, polychromatic UV output 200-400 nm) mercury lamps followed by chlorination or chloramination, in the presence and absence of additional bromide and nitrate. The regulated trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids were not affected by UV pretreatment at disinfection doses (40-186 mJ/cm2). With higher doses (1000 mJ/cm2), trihalomethane formation was increased 30-40%. While most effects on DBPs were only observed with doses much higher than typically used for UV disinfection, there were some effects on unregulated DBPs at lower doses. In nitrate-spiked samples (1-10 mg N/L), chloropicrin formation doubled and increased three- to six-fold with 40 mJ/cm2 MP UV followed by chloramination and chlorination, respectively. Bromopicrin formation was increased in samples containing bromide (0.5-1 mg/L) and nitrate (1-10 mg N/L) when pretreated with LP or MP UV (30-60% with 40 mJ/cm2 LP UV and four- to ten-fold increase with 40 mJ/cm2 MP UV, after subsequent chlorination). The formation of cyanogen chloride doubled and increased three-fold with MP UV doses of 186 and 1000 mJ/cm2, respectively, when followed by chloramination in nitrate-spiked samples but remained below the World Health Organization guideline value of 70 μg/L in all cases. MP UV and high LP UV doses (1000 mJ/cm2) increased chloral hydrate formation after subsequent chlorination (20-40% increase for 40 mJ/cm2 MP UV). These results indicate the importance of bench-testing DBP implications of UV applications in combination with post-disinfectants as part of the engineering assessment of a UV-chlorine/chloramine multi-barrier disinfection design for drinking water treatment.  相似文献

Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), a widely used brominated flame retardant, could negatively affect various aspects of mammalian and human physiology, which triggers effective techniques for its removal. In this work, the degradation characteristics of TBBPA in heterogeneous UV/Fenton reaction catalyzed by titanomagnetite (Fe3−xTixO4) were studied. Batch tests were conducted to evaluate the effects of titanomagnetite dosage, H2O2 concentration and titanium content in magnetite on TBBPA degradation. In the system with 0.125 g L−1 of Fe2.02Ti0.98O4 and 10 mmol L−1 of H2O2, almost complete degradation of TBBPA (20 mg L−1) was accomplished within 240 min UV irradiation at pH 6.5. The titanium incorporation obviously enhanced the catalytic activity of magnetite. As shown by the XRD and XANES results, titanomagnetite had a spinel structure with Ti4+ occupying the octahedral sites. On the basis of the degradation products identified by GC-MS, the degradation pathways of TBBPA were proposed. TBBPA possibly underwent the sequential debromination to form TriBBPA, DiBBPA, MonoBBPA and BPA, and β-scission to generate seven brominated compounds. All of these products were finally completely removed from reaction solution. In addition, the reused catalyst Fe2.02Ti0.98O4 still retained the catalytic activity after three cycles, indicating that titanomagnetite had good stability and reusability. These results demonstrated that heterogeneous UV/Fenton reaction catalyzed by titanomagnetite is a promising advanced oxidation technology for the treatment of wastewater containing TBBPA.  相似文献

The degradation of two pesticides, bromoxynil and trifluralin, was investigated in ultrapure and natural water solutions under ultraviolet (UV) light and a combination of UV and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The effect of pH on the photooxidation of the pesticides was also studied. The results indicated that under direct photolysis with monochromatic light at 253.7 nm and different conditions, the photochemical rates followed first-order kinetics, with fluence-based rate constants ranging from 9.15 × 10−4 to 6.37 × 10−3 cm2 mJ−1 and 7.63 × 10−3 to 1.47 × 10−2 cm2 mJ−1 for bromoxynil and trifluralin, respectively. Quantum yields, in the range of 0.08-0.25 for bromoxynil and 0.12-0.72 for trifluralin, were observed in experiments using ultrapure water. The study also found that the UV/H2O2 process enhanced the oxidation rate in comparison to direct photolysis. A 90% degradation with UV dose of 333 and 188 mJ cm−2 was achieved for bromoxynil and trifluralin, respectively, in natural water, in presence of 8.8 × 10−4 M H2O2. To assess the aquatic toxicity, the Microtox® 81.9% screening test protocol was used before and after treatment. The test results indicated a decrease in the acute toxicity of the samples after treatment for both pesticides.  相似文献

The energy consumptions of conventional ozonation and the AOPs O3/H2O2 and UV/H2O2 for transformation of organic micropollutants, namely atrazine (ATR), sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) were compared. Three lake waters and a wastewater were assessed. With p-chlorobenzoic acid (pCBA) as a hydroxyl radical (OH) probe compound, we experimentally determined the rate constants of organic matter of the selected waters for their reaction with OH (kOH,DOM), which varied from 2.0 × 104 to 3.5 × 104 L mgC−1 s−1. Based on these data we calculated OH scavenging rates of the various water matrices, which were in the range 6.1-20 × 104 s−1. The varying scavenging rates influenced the required oxidant dose for the same degree of micropollutant transformation. In ozonation, for 90% pCBA transformation in the water with the lowest scavenging rate (lake Zürich water) the required O3 dose was roughly 2.3 mg/L, and in the water with the highest scavenging rate (Dübendorf wastewater) it was 13.2 mg/L, corresponding to an energy consumption of 0.035 and 0.2 kWh/m3, respectively. The use of O3/H2O2 increased the rate of micropollutant transformation and reduced bromate formation by 70%, but the H2O2 production increased the energy requirements by 20-25%. UV/H2O2 efficiently oxidized all examined micropollutants but energy requirements were substantially higher (For 90% pCBA conversion in lake Zürich water, 0.17-0.75 kWh/m3 were required, depending on the optical path length). Energy requirements between ozonation and UV/H2O2 were similar only in the case of NDMA, a compound that reacts slowly with ozone and OH but is transformed efficiently by direct photolysis.  相似文献

A sequential application of UV as a primary disinfectant with and without H2O2 addition followed by free chlorine as secondary, residual disinfectant was performed to evaluate the synergistic inactivation of selected indicator microorganisms, MS-2 bacteriophage and Bacillus subtilis spores. No synergism was observed when the UV irradiation treatment was followed by free chlorine, i.e., the overall level of inactivation was the same as the sum of the inactivation levels achieved by each disinfection step. With the addition of H2O2 in the primary UV disinfection step, however, enhanced microbial inactivation was observed. The synergism was observed in two folds manners: (1) additional inactivation achieved by hydroxyl radicals generated from the photolysis of H2O2 in the primary UV disinfection step, and (2) damage to microorganisms in the primary step which facilitated the subsequent chlorine inactivation. Addition of H2O2 in the primary disinfection step was also found to be beneficial for the degradation of selected model organic pollutants including bisphenol-A (endocrine disruptor), geosmin (taste and odor causing compound) and 2,4-D (herbicide). The results suggest that the efficiency of UV/free chlorine sequential disinfection processes, which are widely employed in drinking water treatment, could be significantly enhanced by adding H2O2 in the primary step and hence converting the UV process to an advanced oxidation process.  相似文献

This study examined the impact of UV, ozone (O3), advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) including O3/UV, H2O2/UV H2O2/O3 in the change of molecular weight distribution (MWD) and disinfection by-product formation potential (DBPFP). Bench-scale experiments were conducted with surface river water and changes in the UV absorbance at 254 nm (UV254), total organic carbon (TOC), trihalomethane and haloacetic acid formation potential (THMFP, HAAFP) and MWD of the raw and oxidized water were analyzed to evaluate treatment performance. Combination of O3 and UV with H2O2 was found to result in more TOC and UV254 reduction than the individual processes. The O3/UV process was found to be the most effective AOP for NOM reduction, with TOC and UV254 reduced by 31 and 88%, respectively. Application of O3/UV and H2O2/UV treatments to the source waters organics with 190-1500 Da molecular weight resulted in the near complete alteration of the molecular weight of NOM from >900 Da to <300 Da H2O2/UV was found to be the most effective treatment for the reduction of THM and HAA formation under uniform formation conditions. These results could hold particular significance for drinking water utilities with low alkalinity source waters that are investigating AOPs, as there are limited published studies that have evaluated the treatment efficacy of five different oxidation processes in parallel.  相似文献

Innovative disinfection technologies are being studied for seawater, seeking a viable alternative to chlorination. This study proposes the use of H2O2/UV254 and photo-Fenton as disinfection treatment in seawater. The irradiations were carried out using a sunlight simulator (Suntest) and a cylindrical UV reactor. The efficiency of the treatment was compared for Milli-Q water, Leman Lake water and artificial seawater. The presence of bicarbonates and organic matter was investigated in order to evaluate possible effects on the photo-Fenton disinfection treatment. The photo-Fenton treatment, employing 1 mg L−1 Fe2+ and 10 mg L−1 of H2O2, led to the fastest bacterial inactivation kinetics. Using H2O2/UV254 high disinfection rates were obtained similar to those obtained with photo-Fenton under UV254 light. In Milli-Q water, the rate of inactivation for Escherichia coli was higher than in Leman Lake water and seawater due to the lack of inorganic ions affecting negatively bacteria inactivation. The presence of bicarbonate showed scavenging of the OH radicals generated in the treatment of photo-Fenton and H2O2/UV254. Despite the negative effect of inorganic ions, especially HCO3-, the disinfection treatments with AOPs in lake water and seawater improved significantly the disinfection compared to light alone (simulated sunlight and UV254). In the treatment of photo-Fenton with simulated sunlight, dissolved organic matter had a beneficial effect by increasing the rate of inactivation. This is associated with the formation of Fe3+-organo photosensitive complexes leading to the formation of ROS able to inactivate bacteria. This effect was not observed in the photo-Fenton with UV254. Growth of E. coli surviving in seawater was observed 24 and 48 h after treatment with UV light. However, growth of surviving bacteria was not detected after photo-Fenton with UV254 and H2O2/UV254 treatments.  相似文献

This article examines the oxidative disposal of Prozac® (also known as Fluoxetine, FXT) through several oxidative processes with and without UV irradiation: for example, TiO2 alone, O3 alone, and the hybrid methods comprised of O3 + H2O2 (PEROXONE process), TiO2 + O3 and TiO2 + O3 + H2O2 at the laboratory scale. Results show a strong pH dependence of the adsorption of FXT on TiO2 and the crucial role of adsorption in the whole degradation process. Photolysis of FXT is remarkable only under alkaline pH. The heterogeneous photoassisted process removes 0.11 mM FXT (initial concentration) within ca. 60 min with a concomitant 50% mineralization at pH 11 (TiO2 loading, 0.050 g L−1). The presence of H2O2 enhances the mineralization further to >70%. UV/ozonation leads to the elimination of FXT to a greater extent than does UV/TiO2: i.e., 100% elimination of FXT is achieved by UV/O3 in the first 10 min of reaction and almost 97% mineralization is attained under UV irradiation in the presence of H2O2. The hybrid configuration UV + TiO2 + O3 + H2O2 enhances removal of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in ca. 30 min leaving, however, an important inorganic carbon (IC) content. In all cases, the presence of H2O2 improves the elimination of DOC, but not without a detrimental effect on the biodegradability of FXT owing to the low organic carbon content in the final treated effluent, together with significant levels of inorganic byproducts remaining. The photoassisted TiO2/O3 hybrid method may prove to be an efficient combination to enhance wastewater treatment of recalcitrant drug pollutants in aquatic environments.  相似文献

Factors controlling photolysis and UV/H2O2 photooxidation rates of the biochemically active compounds (BACs) sulfamethoxazole, sulfamethazine, sulfadiazine, trimethoprim, bisphenol A, and diclofenac were determined. Experiments were conducted with a quasi-collimated beam apparatus equipped with low-pressure UV lamps. The effects of pH, H2O2 concentration, and background water matrix (ultrapure water, lake water, wastewater treatment plant effluent) on BAC transformation rates were evaluated. For the sulfa drugs, solution pH affected direct photolysis rates but had little effect on the hydroxyl radical oxidation rate. For sulfamethoxazole, the neutral form photolyzed more easily than the anionic form while the reverse was the case for sulfamethazine and sulfadiazine. For trimethoprim, the hydroxyl radical oxidation rate was higher for the cationic form (pH 3.6) than for the neutral form (pH 7.85). Quantum yields and second order rate constants describing the reaction between the hydroxyl radical and BACs were determined and used together with background water quality data to predict fluence-based BAC transformation rate constants (k′). For both the lake water and wastewater treatment plant effluent matrices, predicted k′ values were generally in good agreement with experimentally determined k′ values. At typical UV/H2O2 treatment conditions (fluence = 540 mJ cm−2, H2O2 dose = 6 mg L−1), BAC transformation percentages in North Carolina lake water ranged from 43% for trimethoprim to 98% for diclofenac. In wastewater treatment plant effluent, BAC transformation percentages were lower (31-97%) at the same treatment conditions because the hydroxyl radical scavenging rate was higher.  相似文献

Two Advanced Oxidation Processes, namely vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) photolysis at 172 nm and ultraviolet/hydrogen peroxide (UV/H2O2) were investigated for the degradation of anatoxin-a in aqueous solutions. Solutions of anatoxin-a-fumarate were treated with VUV light at 172 nm with a UV dose of 200 mJ/cm2, where fumaric acid served as a reference compound for a competition kinetics analysis. The second-order rate constant for the reaction between anatoxin-a and the hydroxyl radical was found to be (5.2 ± 0.3) × 109 M−1 s−1 and was independent of pH, temperature, and initial concentration of anatoxin-a. The direct photolysis of anatoxin-a using a medium pressure (MP) UV lamp was also investigated, in which case a UV dose of 1285 mJ/cm2 was required to degrade anatoxin-a by 88% and 50% at concentrations of 0.6 mg/L and 1.8 mg/L of toxin, respectively. Treatment of anatoxin-a with a low pressure (LP) UV lamp in the presence of 30 mg/L of H2O2 was examined, where it was found that more than 70% of toxin could be degraded at a UV dose of 200 mJ/cm2. The degradation arises from the oxidation of the toxin by hydroxyl radicals. The addition of H2O2 clearly enhanced the degradation of anatoxin-a, up to a concentration of 40 mg/L, after which addition of more H2O2 had little effect on the degradation kinetics of anatoxin-a. The effect of background constituents in the water on the degradation of anatoxin-a was also investigated using natural and synthetically produced model waters.  相似文献

Geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) related odor events caused by cyanobacteria have been a very common problem to water supply. This paper investigated the effects of temperature (18 and 25 °C) and light intensity (10 and 100 μmol photons m−2 s−1) on the production behaviors of earthy odor compounds by three odorous cyanobacteria, i.e., the geosmin-producing planktonic Anabaena circinalis (Ana 318), geosmin-producing benthic Phormidium amoenum (Pho 012) and MIB-producing benthic Phormidium sp. (Pho 689). At the same time, the effects of biodegradation and volatilization on the fates of the released odor compounds in water were also evaluated. The combination of high temperature (25 °C) and light intensity (100 μmol photons m−2 s−1) favored the growth of the three cyanobacteria and the production of chl-a and odor compounds. However, higher chl-a and odor yields (average odor compounds per cell) were achieved for the two benthic cyanobacteria at the temperature of 18 °C. Most of geosmin was included within the cells for Ana 318 (95-99%) and Pho 012 (85-60%), while only 20-40% MIB was bound to the cells for Pho 689. The half-life times of MIB and geosmin due to volatilization varied between 18.8 and 35.4 days, while 8 out of 10 samples exhibited a half-life time (t1/2) for geosmin biodegradation shorter than 1 day (0.38-15.0 h), showing that biodegradation could affect the fate of geosmin significantly in aquatic environments. In comparison, biodegradation of MIB was much slower (t1/2: 122-2166 h). Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis showed that Pseudomonas- and Sphingomonas-like bacteria coexisted with cyanobacteria in the cultures, and may have played an important role in geosmin/MIB biodegradation. The result of this study will be helpful for better understanding and managing the earthy odor problems caused by cyanobacteria in water supply.  相似文献

In this study, the impacts of three preoxidation strategies [i.e., using potassium permanganate (KMnO4), chlorine dioxide (ClO2), or hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)] before preformed monochloramine (NH2Cl) addition on the formation and speciation of iodinated trihalomethanes (I-THMs) were evaluated at the Br/I mass ratio of 10 in two natural waters. The effects of preoxidant dose, Br/DOC, and I/DOC ratio were investigated. Preoxidation with KMnO4 increased I-THM formation due to an increase in iodoform (CHI3) and brominated I-THM (CHBrClI, CHBrI2, CHBr2I) formation. In contrast, preoxidation with ClO2 sometimes reduced I-THM formation, primarily due to a reduction in CHI3 formation. Preoxidation with H2O2 had no effect on I-THM formation or speciation. I-THM formation from each preoxidant alone was considerably less than the formation from NH2Cl. Overall, preoxidant type, preoxidant/DOC, preoxidant/I, and I/DOC ratios are the important factors that water utilities should evaluate when assessing the impact of preoxidation for controlling I-THM formation.  相似文献

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation has become popular as a primary disinfectant because it is very effective against Cryptosporidium and does not directly form regulated disinfection by-products. Higher UV doses and UV advanced oxidation (UV/H2O2) processes are under consideration for the treatment of trace organic pollutants (e.g. pharmaceuticals, personal care products). Despite the disinfection effectiveness of UV light, a secondary disinfectant capable of maintaining a distribution system residual is required to meet current U.S. regulation. This study investigated changes in disinfection by-product (DBP) formation attributed to UV or UV/H2O2 followed by application of free chlorine to quench hydrogen peroxide and provide residual disinfectant. At a UV dose of 1000 mJ/cm2, trihalomethane (THM) yield increased by up to 4 μg/mg-C and 13 μg/mg-C when treated with low and medium pressure UV, respectively. With the addition of hydrogen peroxide, THM yield increased by up to 25 μg/mg-C (5 mg-H2O2/L) and 37 μg/mg-C (10 mg-H2O2/L). Although no changes in DBPs are expected during UV disinfection, application of UV advanced oxidation followed by chlorine addition was assessed with regard to impacts on DBP formation.  相似文献

Despite evidence of formation of brominated compounds in seawater swimming pools treated with chlorine, no data about exposure levels to these compounds have been reported. To address this issue, a survey has been carried out in four establishments (representing 8 pools) fed with seawater and devoted to relaxing and cure treatments (thalassotherapy centres located in Southeast of France). Carcinogenic and mutagenic brominated disinfection byproducts (trihalomethanes -THM- and halogenated acetic acids -HAA-) were quantified at varying levels, statistically related to organic loadings brought by bathers, and not from marine organic matter, and also linked to activities carried out in the pools (watergym vs swimming). Bromoform and dibromoacetic acid, the most abundant THM and HAA detected, were measured at levels up to 18-fold greater than the maximum contaminant levels of 60 and 80 μg/L fixed by US.EPA in drinking waters. The correlations between these disinfection byproducts and other environmental factors such as nitrogen, pH, temperature, free residual chlorine, UV254, chloride and bromide concentrations, and daily frequentation were examined. Because thalassotherapy and seawater swimming pools (hotels, cruise ships,…) are increasing in use around the world and because carcinogenic and mutagenic brominated byproducts may be produced in chlorinated seawater swimming pools, specific care should be taken to assure cleanliness of users (swimmers and patients taking the waters) and to increase water circulation through media filters to reduce levels of brominated byproducts.  相似文献

In this study, degradation of humic acid (HA) via photoelectrocatalysis (PEC) process and corresponding disinfection byproduct formation potential (DBPFP) were investigated. Particularly, structure variation and subsequent DBPFP of HA during PEC treatment were correlated. The PEC process was found to be effective in reducing dissolved organic carbon concentration by 75.0% and UV absorbance at 254 nm by 92.0%. Furthermore, 90.3% of haloacetic acids formation potential and 89.8% of trihalomethanes formation potential were reduced within 180 min. Based on molecular weight and resin fraction results, it was demonstrated that HA with large aromatic, hydrophobic and long aliphatic chain organics were transformed into small and hydrophilic organics during PEC process. Combined with the fourier transform infrared spectra and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectra analysis of HA fractions, it was concluded that phenolic hydroxyl and conjugated double bonds tended to be attacked by hydroxyl radicals during PEC process; these groups were reactive with chlorine to produce disinfection byproducts (DBP), especially trihalomethane and trichloroacetic acid. By contrast, amino, carboxyl and alcoholic hydroxyl groups were relatively difficult to be oxidized during PEC process; these groups had the potential to form dichloroacetic acid during chlorination. Results of these studies confirmed that PEC process was a safe and effective technique to decrease DBP formation significantly in water treatment plant.  相似文献

UV/chlorine (UV/HOCl and UV/ClO2) Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) were assessed with varying process layout and compared to the state of the art UV/H2O2 AOP. The process comparison focused on the economical and energy saving potential of the UV/chlorine AOP. Therefore the experiments were performed at technical scale (250 L/h continuous flow reactor) and at process energies, oxidant and model contaminant concentrations expected in full scale reference plants. As model compounds the emerging contaminants (ECs): desethylatrazine, sulfamethoxazole, carbamazepine, diclofenac, benzotriazole, tolyltriazole, iopamidole and 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) were degraded at initial compound concentrations of 1 μg/L in tap water and matrixes with increased organic load (46 mg/L DOC).UV/chlorine AOP organic by-product forming potential was assessed for trihalomethanes (THMs) and N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). A process design was evaluated which can considerably reduce process costs, energy consumption and by-product generation from UV/HOCl AOPs.  相似文献

French River water (Nova Scotia, Canada) was separated into six different natural organic matter (NOM) fractions, including hydrophobic acids, bases and neutrals and hydrophilic acids, bases and neutrals. The raw water, as well as each of the NOM fractions were analysed for disinfection by-product (DBP) formation potential before and after advanced oxidation with UV/TiO2 to determine the efficacy of this treatment for the removal of DBP precursors. The UV/TiO2 treatment was carried out with a nanostructured thin film (NSTF), coated with TiO2 which is compared with the use of a TiO2 suspension. For the raw river water, removals of total trihalomethane formation potential (TTHMFP) and total haloacetic acid formation potential (THAA9FP) were found to be approximately 20% and 90%, respectively, with 50 mJ/cm2 UV exposure and 1 mg/L TiO2. For the fractionated samples, approximately 75% of both trihalomethane (THM) and haloacetic acid (HAA) precursors were found to be associated with the hydrophobic acid fraction. For this individual fraction the same UV/TiO2 treatments exhibited approximately 20-25% removal of both TTHMFP and THAA9FP, suggesting that the fractionation process may have affected the treatability of HAA precursors or may have altered the results of the oxidation processes.  相似文献
