The objective of this study is to review and evaluate the applications of magnesium in the automotive industry that can significantly contribute to greater fuel economy and environmental conservation. In the study, the current advantages, limitations, technological barriers and future prospects of Mg alloys in the automotive industry are given. The usage of magnesium in automotive applications is also assessed for the impact on environmental conservation. Recent developments in coating and alloying of Mg improved the creep and corrosion resistance properties of magnesium alloys for elevated temperature and corrosive environments. The results of the study conclude that reasonable prices and improved properties of Mg and its alloys will lead to massive use of magnesium. Compared to using alternative materials, using Mg alloys results in a 22% to 70% weight reduction. Lastly, the use of magnesium in automotive components is increasing as knowledge of forming processes of Mg alloys increases. 相似文献

以镍铝青铜焊丝为填充材料,对AZ31B镁合金/镀锌钢板进行冷金属过渡点塞焊试验研究,分析镁板上孔直径对镁钢点塞焊接头力学性能的影响.并通过分析焊接接头微观组织及其元素分布状况来研究其连接机理。研究结果表明:使用镍铝青铜焊丝能够得到焊缝美观的镁/镀锌钢异种金属的连接接头。镁/钢板焊接接头的焊缝主要由α-Cu和CuAl2组成,熔合区由镁的固溶体α-Mg以及Al2Cu3Mg2和Mg2Cu混合的金属间化合物组成。镁板上孔的直径对镁钢接头性能有很大的影响。随着镁板孔径的增大,镁钢点塞焊接头的最大抗拉载荷先增大后减小,且当镁板孔径为5 mm时接头的最大抗拉载荷达到最大为3.4 kN。焊缝金属和镁母材的连接处即熔合区存在大量脆性金属间化合物,使得镁/钢接头整体力学性能较差。 相似文献

This paper presents the deformation behavior of commercial Mg-Al-Zn-Mn type alloys during hydrostatic extrusion process at
elevated temperatures. In the current study commercial Mg-Al-Zn-Mn type alloys with different Al contents were subjected to
hydrostatic extrusion process at a range of temperatures and at ram speeds of 4.5, 10 and 17 mm/sec. Under the hydrostatic
condition at 518K, the alloy with Al contents of 2.9 wt% was successfully extruded at all applied speeds. The alloys with
Al content of 5.89 and 7.86 wt% were successful up to 10mm/sec, and finally extrusion of alloy with Al content 8.46wt% was
successful only at 4.5 mm/sec. These results show that the deformation limit in the Mg alloys in terms of extrusion speed
greatly extended to higher value in the proximity of lower Al content. It is presumed that deformation becomes harder as Al
content increases because of strengthening mechanism by solute drag to increase of supersaturated Mg17 Al12 precipitates. Also, microstructures of cast and extruded Mg alloys were compared. Defect-wide microstructure of cast alloy

Effects of Nd on the mechanical properties of die casting magnesium alloys AM50 are investigated. It is found that the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of the AM50 alloy at elevated temperatures up to 200 ℃ increase with an addition of Nd. Generally, the most significant improvement in the tensile properties is attained at 100 ℃. The presence of Mgl2Nd is proved by X-ray diffraction. Microstructural observations reveal that the addition of Nd can lead to the dispersion-strengthening. Due to the presence of Mgl2Nd, the sliding of grain boundaries is restrained and the strength of the alloy is enhanced. It can be seen from the tensile fractographs that the fracture surfaces exhibit the mixed fracture characteristics, and less brittle fracture is observed with increasing the temperature. Quasi-cleavage fracture is thought as the main fracture mode. TEM observations expose the formation of dislocation network, slip lines and dislocation pile-ups. 相似文献

研究了固溶、时效对挤压添加钙的三种AM50镁合金组织和力学性能的影响。结果表明:合金挤压后,随着固溶时间的增加,Mg17,Al12相以弥散状溶解在基体镁中,而Al2Ca相相当稳定,部分变细,逐步断开并出现球化现象;随着时效时间的增加,Mg177Al12相以粒状从基体中析出,而Al2Ca相在时效过程中变化极小。固溶后,挤压合金的硬度和抗拉强度下降。时效后,挤压添加1%Ca的合金抗拉强度略有升高,未加和加入2%Ca的抗拉强度略有下降,三种合金的硬度增加到峰值后逐步下降。未加和加入29,6Ca的合金固溶后塑性显著增加,时效后塑性略有下降;而加入1%Ca的合金固溶后塑性略有下降,时效后塑性显著提高。 相似文献
