While creativity is essential for developing students’ broad expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields, many students struggle with various aspects of being creative. Digital technologies have the unique opportunity to support the creative process by (1) recognizing elements of students’ creativity, such as when creativity is lacking (modeling step), and (2) providing tailored scaffolding based on that information (intervention step). However, to date little work exists on either of these aspects. Here, we focus on the modeling step. Specifically, we explore the utility of various sensing devices, including an eye tracker, a skin conductance bracelet, and an EEG sensor, for modeling creativity during an educational activity, namely geometry proof generation. We found reliable differences in sensor features characterizing low vs. high creativity students. We then applied machine learning to build classifiers that achieved good accuracy in distinguishing these two student groups, providing evidence that sensor features are valuable for modeling creativity. 相似文献

Bulge is a defect that causes geometrical inaccuracy and premature failure in the innovative incremental sheet forming (ISF) process. This study has two-fold objectives: (1) knowing the bulging behavior of a Cu clad tri-layered steel sheet as a function of forming conditions, and (2) analyzing the bending effect on bulging in an attempt to identify the associated mechanism. A series of ISF tests and bending analysis are performed to realize these objectives. From the cause-effect analysis, it is found that bulge formation in the layered sheet is sensitive to forming conditions in a way that bulging can be minimized utilizing annealed material and performing ISF with larger tool diameter and step size. The bending under tension analysis reveals that the formation of bulge is an outgrowth of bending moment that the forming tool applies on the sheet during ISF. Furthermore, the magnitude of bending moment depending upon the forming conditions varies from 0.046 to 10.24 N·m/m and causes a corresponding change in the mean bulge height from 0.07 to 0.91 mm. The bending moment governs bulging in layered sheet through a linear law. These findings lead to a conclusion that the bulge defect can be overcome by controlling the bending moment and the formula proposed can be helpful in this regards. 相似文献

The aim of the present work is to develop an application of the LArge Time INcrement (LATIN) approach for the parametric analysis of static problems with multiple contacts. The methodology adopted was originally introduced to solve viscoplastic and large‐transformation problems. Here, the applications concern elastic, quasi‐static structural assemblies with local non‐linearities such as unilateral contact with friction. Our approach is based on a decomposition of the assembly into substructures and interfaces. The interfaces play the vital role of enabling the local non‐linearities, such as contact and friction, to be modelled easily and accurately. The problem on each substructure is solved by the finite element method and an iterative scheme based on the LATIN method is used for the global resolution. More specifically, the objective is to calculate a large number of design configurations. Each design configuration corresponds to a set of values of all the variable parameters (friction coefficients, prestress) which are introduced into the mechanical analysis. A full computation is needed for each set of parameters. Here we propose, as an alternative to carrying out these full computations, to use the capability of the LATIN method to re‐use the solution to a given problem (for one set of parameters) in order to solve similar problems (for the other sets of parameters). We have measured the thermal contact conductance of several demountable copper joints below 1 K. Joints were made by bolting together either two flat surfaces or a clamp around a rod. Surfaces were gold plated, and no intermediate materials were used. A linear dependence on temperature was seen. Most of the measured conductance values fell into a narrow range: 0.1-0.2 W K−1 at 1 K. Results in the literature for similar joints consist of predictions based on electrical resistance measurements using the Wiedemann-Franz law. There is little evidence of the validity of this law in the case of joints. Nevertheless, our results are in good agreement with the literature predictions, suggesting that such predictions are a reasonable approximation. 相似文献

海上油井酸化后,油井返排液沉降分离得到含酸原油,后者进入电脱水器后常引起电脱水器跳闸。其原因是含酸原油(油包水型乳状液)的电导率过高,超过了电脱水器的安全工作电导率κw。对于现场所用的电脱水器,由设计参数计算出κw=0.43μS/cm。从某海上油田3口油井酸化后不同时间的返排液共取样40份,随机选出13份,沉降分离后得到13份含酸原油样,测得电导率范围在0.03~10000μS/cm。认为原油的含水率(应<18%)不是引起跳闸的原因,跳闸的主因是含酸原油的高电导率。研制了一种油溶性的碱性添加剂,其化学成份是碱金属、碱土金属氧化物或氢氧化物,以浓溶液形式加入含酸原油中,可使电导率降至κw以下。加入量由实验确定。表2参2。 相似文献

Laguerre Functional Model has many advantages such as good approximation capability for the variances of system time‐delay, order and other structural parameters, low computational complexity, and the facility of online parameter identification, etc., so this model is suitable for complex industrial process control. A series of successful applications have been gained in linear and non‐linear predictive control fields by the control algorithm based on Laguerre Functional Model, however, former researchers have not systemically brought forward the theoretical analyses of the stability, robustness, and steady‐state performance of this algorithm, which are the keys to guarantee the feasibility of the control algorithm fundamentally. Aimed at this problem, we introduce the principles of the Incremental Mode Linear Laguerre Predictive Control (IMLLPC) algorithm, and then systemically propose the theoretical analyses and proofs of the stability and robustness of the algorithm, in addition, we also put forward the steady‐state performance analysis. At last, the control performances of this algorithm on two different physical industrial plants are presented in detail, and a number of experimental results validate the feasibility and superiority of IMLLPC algorithm.
