There have been few attempts, so far, to document the history of artificial intelligence. It is argued that the historical sociology of scientific knowledge can provide a broad historiographical approach for the history of AI, particularly as it has proved fruitful within the history of science in recent years. The article shows how the sociology of knowledge can inform and enrich four types of project within the history of AI; organizational history; AI viewed as technology; AI viewed as cognitive science and historical biography. In the latter area the historical treatments of Darwin and Turing are compared to warn against the pitfalls of rational reconstructions of the past.  相似文献

The effect of iron additions in the range 5 to 15 wt % iron inclusive on the microstructure and properties of two Co-Mn-Cr-Si wear resistant alloys (Tribaloys T400 and T800) has been investigated. Iron additions were found to stabilize the f c c form of the cobalt solid solution, to give a fully eutectic matrix and to decrease the volume fraction of the primary Laves phase. These microstructural modifications have little effect on the plane strain fracture toughness but result in a significant increase in the modulus of rupture. The addition of iron induces only minor changes in the corrosion and oxidation resistance of T800, whereas the performance of T400 deteriorates.  相似文献

Topic models are a useful and ubiquitous tool for understanding large corpora. However, topic models are not perfect, and for many users in computational social science, digital humanities, and information studies—who are not machine learning experts—existing models and frameworks are often a “take it or leave it” proposition. This paper presents a mechanism for giving users a voice by encoding users’ feedback to topic models as correlations between words into a topic model. This framework, interactive topic modeling (itm), allows untrained users to encode their feedback easily and iteratively into the topic models. Because latency in interactive systems is crucial, we develop more efficient inference algorithms for tree-based topic models. We validate the framework both with simulated and real users.  相似文献

Career visual searchers such as radiologists and airport security screeners strive to conduct accurate visual searches, but despite extensive training, errors still occur. A key difference between searches in radiology and airport security is the structure of the search task: Radiologists typically scan a certain number of medical images (fixed objective), and airport security screeners typically search X-rays for a specified time period (fixed duration). Might these structural differences affect accuracy? We compared performance on a search task administered either under constraints that approximated radiology or airport security. Some displays contained more than one target because the presence of multiple targets is an established source of errors for career searchers, and accuracy for additional targets tends to be especially sensitive to contextual conditions. Results indicate that participants searching within the fixed objective framework produced more multiple-target search errors; thus, adopting a fixed duration framework could improve accuracy for career searchers.  相似文献

The photocatalytic decolorization of adsorbed organic dyes (Acid Blue 9, Acid Orange 7, Reactive Black 5 and Reactive Blue 19) in air was examined, applicable to self-cleaning surfaces and catalyst characterization. Dye-coated Degussa P25 titanium dioxide (TiO2) and dye-coated photo-inert aluminum oxide (Al2O3) particles, both of sub-monolayer initial dye coverage, were illuminated with 1.3 mW cm−2 of near-UV light. Visual evidence of color removal is reported with photographic images. Two methods, Indirect and Direct Analysis, were employed to quantitatively examine the decolorization kinetics of dyes using UV–visible transmission and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, respectively. A decrease in dye concentration with time was observed with near-UV illumination of dye-coated TiO2 powders for all dyes. Dyes did not photodegrade significantly on photo-inert Al2O3.

UV–visible spectroscopy data was used to model the kinetics of the photocatalytic degradation. Two first-order reactions in series provided the most convincing rate form for the photodegradation of dyes adsorbed to TiO2, with a first step the conversion of colored dye to colored intermediate, and the second the conversion to colorless product(s). The first rate constant was of similar magnitude for all dyes, averaging k1 = 0.13 min−1. Similarly, for the second, k2 = 0.0014 min−1.  相似文献

Elastomeric latex interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) can result from a two-stage emulsion polymerization procedure in which styrene is polymerized and cross-linked on a lightly cross-linked polyacrylate (PA) seed latex in a ratio of 75 : 25 PA-PS. The multiphase nature of these IPNs is indicated by two distinct Tgs and is confirmed by cold-stage transmission electron microscopy and by the unique mechanical and rheological properties that are intimately related to the material's structure. PS microdomains reinforce the elastomeric PA, yielding a significant modulus, and interparticle PS physical ties yield a significant ultimate tensile strength. The elastomeric latex IPN's dual thermoset-thermoplastic nature is revealed in a stick, slip, roll flow mechanism of the cross-linked submicrometer particles, which can be injection molded as a thermoplastic. The relationships among the polymerization procedure, the structure, and the physical properties are characterized by the examination of several different materials using a variety of analytic techniques.  相似文献

We report on extensive measurements of oxygen reduction activity of Pt and Pt-Co-Mn electrocatalysts using the rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE) method. The electrocatalysts were prepared by sputtering from Pt or Pt, Co and Mn targets onto 3M's nano-structured thin film support (NSTF) structures. The area specific activity of Pt/NSTF, measured in 0.1 M HClO4 and at room temperature, is similar to that of bulk Pt. The area specific measurements show a 20 mV reduction in the Pt-Co-Mn/NSTF overpotential compared to Pt/NSTF. The corresponding kinetic gain in the area specific activity of the ternary alloy is about a factor of two. This ORR enhancement factor observed in the ternary Pt-Co-Mn/NSTF by RRDE measurements is similar to the results obtained in 50 cm2 H2/air fuel cells.  相似文献

Matsunone, (2E,4E)-4.6,10,12-tetramethyl-2,4-tridecadien-7-one, is the primary sex pheromone ofMatsucoccus resinosae, M. thunbergianae, andM. matsumurae. The synthetic compound was tested in the laboratory and in field tests with all three species, and significantly more males responded to synthetic matsuone than to controls. The attraction of synthetic matsuone to males in field tests was not significantly different from that of virgin females at the same matsuone release rate. An analog of matsuone previously shown to be biologically active was also tested in the laboratory withM. resinosae andM. thunbergianae, and field tested withM. resinosae. The active analog required a dose approximately 100 times greater than matsuone to yield maximum laboratory bioassay response, and in field tests, attraction was not significantly different from controls at doses at which matsuone was significantly attractive.Homoptera: Coccoidea: Margarodidae.Deceased.  相似文献

This study presents a narrative synthesis of a systematic literature review relating to multi-agency interoperability and major incident decision-making in high risk, high stake environments. The review methodology includes the identification of relevant studies, a critical appraisal of the concepts inherent in the main review question and a narrative synthesis of the central themes that relate to the study as a whole. The review firstly outlines what, currently, appear to be the perceived defining features of successful interoperability by using the SAFE-T phase model of major incident decision-making. It then considers whether these defining features are realistically achievable in major incident practice. Findings suggest that the current definition of an interoperable network is too demanding for the inherent complexity and dynamic nature of the major incident task environment. Individual teams tend to focus on agency-specific behaviour, as opposed to coordinated multi-team functioning, and so collective interoperability is not achieved. Inevitably, this reduces the ability to perform collaborative behaviours, including decision-making and action implementation. The paper concludes that aiming for the current conceptualisation of interoperability along a hierarchical command structure may actually inhibit effective decision-making. Instead, multi-agency systems would do better to work towards an improved understanding of a non-hierarchical and decentralised yet interoperable major incident management network. Recommendations include the need to relate theory and practice in the development of multi-agency decision-making via simulation-based training and to deepen our understanding of interoperability to prevent inertia in high risk, high stake major incident environments.  相似文献
