We report the growth and characterisation of the first GaAllnAs based GRIN-SCH MQW lasers operating at 1.3 and 1.6μm. In these devices, GaAllnAs barriers and either GalnAs or GaAllnAs wells have been used for the 1.6 and 1.3μm lasers, respectively, together with true continuously graded composition GaAlInAs regions for the confinement layers. The excellent structural quality of the active and confinement regions and control of wavelength uniformity has been confirmed. Buried ridge lasers fabricated from the GRIN-SCH MQW wafers lased at 1.3 and 1.6μm with CW threshold currents of 65 and 30 mA, respectively.  相似文献

Several observations are made on the above-named work by M.S. Ash and H.C. Gorton (see ibid., vol.38, no.4, p.485-93, Oct. 1989) concerning gradual performance deterioration in semiconductor devices. The commenter suggests that the development of predictive tools for reliability assessments involving long-term deterioration in such devices requires that careful attention be paid to the operational physics of the device, including temperature-dependent characteristics. Thirty-one lactating Holstein and Jersey cows were used to determine the effect of daily injections of 0 or 20 mg of recombinant bST in hot, humid weather. The comparison period lasted 80 d, from mid-June through August. The maximum and minimum ambient temperature and relative humidity averaged 34.6 and 22.2 degrees C and 100 and 59.8%, respectively. Body temperatures of somatotropin-treated Holsteins were elevated over controls by .2 and .3 degrees C at the a.m. and p.m. milkings, respectively, whereas corresponding treatment effects for Jerseys were .5 and .6 degrees C, thus demonstrating a breed by treatment interaction. The response of milk and FCM yields and apparent efficiency of production to somatotropin administration depended on the level of production prior to treatment. Cows at low pretreatment production increased milk and FCM yields to a greater degree than did cows at higher production. A breed by treatment interaction showed that Holsteins increased milk and FCM yields more than Jerseys upon administration of somatotropin. Intake of DM was not affected by treatment. Cows administered bST lost BW and condition score. Greater heat stress was associated with the higher milk production of cows administered bST.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the spatial dimension of learning in firms. It works with important new insights in economic geography that stress the role of spatial proximity and territorial embeddedness in the process of knowledge formation, but it also seeks to go beyond them by recognizing learning based on relations at a distance. The paper defines space as a network of both contiguous and non-contiguous relations of varying length, shape and duration, where knowing can involve all manner of spatial mobilizations, including placements of task teams in neutral spaces, face-to-face encounters, global networks held together by travel and virtual communications, flows of ideas and information through the supply chain, and trans-corporate thought experiments and symbolic rituals.  相似文献

Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is one of the most common causes of death in intensive care unit patients. The detoxification plasma filtration (DTPF) system (HemoCleanse, Inc., West Lafayette, IN) combines the DT hemodiabsorption system in series with a push-pull pheresis PF system (a suspension of powdered sorbents surrounding 0.5 microm plasma filter membranes). Bidirectional plasma flow (at 80-100 ml/min) across the PF membranes provides direct contact between plasma proteins and powdered sorbents, as well as clearance of cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1beta, and interleukin-6) at a rate of 15-25 ml/min, without evidence of saturation for 90 minutes. In a U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved study we treated eight patients with SIRS and organ failure with a single DTPF treatment, using powdered charcoal as sorbent in four patients and powdered charcoal and silica in four patients. Treatments proceeded for 6 hours with proper heparin anticoagulation (activated clotting time 250-300 sec) and appeared safe. All patients improved during the treatments and each had increased blood pressure and decreased need for pressor agents. Plasma cytokine levels stabilized or decreased during treatment and were significantly lower the morning after treatment. Multiple organ dysfunction (MOD) and Acute Physiology Chronic Health Evaluation II scores and organ function gradually improved in most patients, and two patients survived for more than 28 days and two for more than 14 days. The DTPF System may prove beneficial in treatment of patients with sepsis.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To compare outcomes of bone marrow transplants for leukemia from HLA-identical siblings, haploidentical HLA-mismatched relatives, and HLA-matched and mismatched unrelated donors. PATIENTS: A total of 2,055 recipients of allogeneic bone marrow transplants for chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) were entered onto the study. Transplants were performed between 1985 and 1991 and reported to the International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry (IBMTR). Donors were HLA-identical siblings (n = 1,224); haploidentical relatives mismatched for one (n = 238) or two (n = 102) HLA-A, -B, or -DR antigens; or unrelated persons who were HLA-matched (n = 383) or mismatched for one HLA-A, -B, or -DR antigen (n = 108). HLA typing was performed using serologic techniques. RESULTS: Transplant-related mortality was significantly higher after alternative donor transplants than after HLA-identical sibling transplants. Among patients with early leukemia (CML in chronic phase or acute leukemia in first remission), 3-year transplant-related mortality (+/-SE) was 21% +/- 2% after HLA-identical sibling transplants and greater than 50% after all types of alternative donor transplants studied. Among patients with early leukemia, relative risks of treatment failure (inverse of leukemia-free survival), using HLA-identical sibling transplants as the reference group, were 2.43 (P < .0001) with 1-HLA-antigen-mismatched related donors, 3.79 (P < .0001) with 2-HLA-antigen-mismatched related donors, 2.11 (P < .0001) with HLA-matched unrelated donors, and 3.33 (P < .0001) with 1-HLA-antigen-mismatched unrelated donors. For patients with more advanced leukemia, differences in treatment failure were less striking: 1-HLA-antigen-mismatched relatives, 1.22 (P = not significant [NS]); 2-HLA-antigen-mismatched relatives, 1.81 (P < .0001); HLA-matched unrelated donors, 1.39 (P = .002); and 1-HLA-antigen-mismatched unrelated donors, 1.63 (P = .002). CONCLUSION: Although transplants from alternative donors are effective in some patients with leukemia, treatment failure is higher than after HLA-identical sibling transplants. Outcome depends on leukemia state, donor-recipient relationship, and degree of HLA matching. In early leukemia, alternative donor transplants have a more than twofold increased risk of treatment failure compared with HLA-identical sibling transplants. A multilayered magnetic head that can read and write at 150 MHz on metal particle tape with a coercivity of 120 kA/m (1500 Oe) has been developed. Ten 2-μm layers of Fe68Ru8Ga7 Si17 alloy, with 100 nm of SiO2 used as spacer, form the magnetic-core thickness and the track width. The head was tested in a rotary recording system at a relative head-to-tape speed of 73 m/s. At a linear density of 4000 fc/mm (100 kfc) and 150 MHz, the measured single frequency signal to 300-kHz-slot noise was 33 dB (RMS-RMS). The measured frequency response curve agrees with theory and indicates a head-to-tape spacing of 70 nm at high speed. The read efficiency of the head decreases from 37% at low frequency to 15% at 150 MHz  相似文献
