Damage driven crack initiation and propagation in ductile metals using XFEM   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
Originally Continuum Damage Mechanics and Fracture Mechanics evolved separately. However, when it comes to ductile fracture, an unified approach is quite beneficial for an accurate modelling of this phenomenon. Ductile materials may undergo moderate to large plastic deformations and internal degradation phenomena which are well described by continuum theories. Nevertheless in the final stages of failure, a discontinuous methodology is essential to represent surface decohesion and macro-crack propagation. In this work, XFEM is combined with the Lemaitre ductile damage model in a way that crack initiation and propagation are governed by the evolution of damage. The model was built under a finite strain assumption and a non-local integral formulation is applied to avoid pathological mesh dependence. The efficiency of the proposed methodology is evaluated through various numerical examples.  相似文献

The desorption isotherms and thermodynamic properties of cocoa beans were obtained during the drying process of this product. The isotherms were determined by dynamic method for various temperature (25, 35, 45 and 55 °C) and relative humidity (RH) conditions (30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80%). Equilibrium moisture content data were correlated by the Guggenheim–Anderson–de Boer (GAB) model, which presented good fit to the data, according to statistical procedures. Equilibrium moisture content ranged from 5.90 to 16.67 d.b.; it increased with an increment in the RH and decreased with increased temperature at a constant RH. Enthalpy values for each model coefficient were encountered, ranging from ?90.05 to 545.96 kJ kg?1. The integral isosteric heat of desorption and differential entropy increased with decreased equilibrium moisture content, a tendency also found for Gibbs free energy.  相似文献

Free‐standing films of polyaniline (PANI), in an emeraldine base state, prepared by evaporation of polymer solutions in N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP) retain solvent even under dynamic vacuum drying as indicated by transmission Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, where a band at 1670 cm?1 is clearly observed. Upon protonation–deprotonation cycles in aqueous media the weight of the dry base film decreases indicating gradual loss of NMP. Transmission FTIR spectra shows also the washing out of NMP with a clear decrease in intensity of the hydrogen‐bonded >C?O stretching band (1670 cm?1) of NMP. During this process the bands between 3500 and 3200 cm?1, assigned to >N? H stretching in the PANI backbone, change intensity suggesting that intermolecular hydrogen‐bonded >N? H, with carbonyl oxygen of NMP, is replaced by free >N? H. This is clear evidence of specific interaction of NMP with the emeraldine base. A similar loss of NMP is observed during heating but evidence of polymer degradation is also present. A mechanism is proposed to account for the loss of hydrogen‐bonding ability upon protonation which requires delocalization of the radical cations in the protonated films. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Multilayer In0.4Ga0.6As/GaAs quantum dot (QD) chain samples are investigated by means of cw and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy in order to study the peculiarities of interdot coupling in such nanostructures. The temperature dependence of the PL has revealed details of the confinement. Non-thermal carrier distribution through in-chain, interdot wave function coupling is found. The peculiar dependences of the PL decay time on the excitation and detection energies are ascribed to the electronic interdot coupling and the long-range coupling through the radiation field. It is shown that the dependence of the PL decay time on the excitation wavelength is a result of the superradiance effect.  相似文献

The present review paper supports the approach to deliver melatonin and to target melatonin receptors for neuroprotection in stroke. We discuss laboratory evidence demonstrating neuroprotective effects of exogenous melatonin treatment and transplantation of melatonin-secreting cells in stroke. In addition, we describe a novel mechanism of action underlying the therapeutic benefits of stem cell therapy in stroke, implicating the role of melatonin receptors. As we envision the clinical entry of melatonin-based therapeutics, we discuss translational experiments that warrant consideration to reveal an optimal melatonin treatment strategy that is safe and effective for human application.  相似文献

The treatment of soils with cement is an attractive technique when the project requires improvement of the local soil for the construction of subgrades for rail tracks, as a support layer for shallow foundations and to prevent sand liquefaction. As reported by Consoli et al. in 2007, a unique dosage methodology has been established based on rational criteria where the voids/cement ratio plays a fundamental role in the assessment of the target unconfined compressive strength. The present study broadened the research carried out by Consoli et al. in 2007 through quantifying quantifies the influence of voids/cement ratio on the initial shear modulus (G0) and Mohr-Coulomb effective strength parameters (c′,?′) of an artificially cemented sand. A number of unconfined compression and triaxial compression tests with bender elements measurements were carried out. It was shown that the void/cement ratio defined as the ratio between the volume of voids of the compacted mixture and the volume of cement is an appropriate parameter to assess both initial stiffness and effective strength of the sand-cement mixture studied.  相似文献

This article aims to investigate the degradation of physical and tribological properties (friction coefficients and wear resistance) of a dynamic sealing material (silicone rubber [VMQ]) exposed to Jatropha oil (JO), engine mineral oil (EMO), and a blend (B20; 80% EMO–20% JO), separately. JO has demonstrated better lubricating properties than EMO in various mechanical applications; however, the degradation of elastomers by using this oil has not been studied yet, nor have its effect on their tribological properties. The physical degradation was evaluated by conducting static immersion tests (670 h at 25 °C) based on ASTM-D471 and ASTM-D7216 methods. Hence, the changes in mass, volume, tensile and tear strengths, and hardness of VMQ were measured. In addition, creep compliance tests were conducted to determine the changes in viscoelastic properties and the changes in morphology and topography were measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical profilometry, respectively. In addition, the compositional changes were determined by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analyses to complement the degradation examination. Changes in the friction coefficients were determined by ball-on-disk tests and changes in wear resistance were obtained by accelerated wear tests (microabrasion tests). Finally, VMQ exhibited no significant physical and compositional degradation due to immersion in the three lubricants. However, considerable changes in the friction coefficients and wear resistance were observed; the change in the friction coefficients was minimal using JO. In addition, the coefficients using JO were 50% lower than those for EMO and the changes in wear resistance were lowest after immersion in JO.  相似文献

Bibliometric analysis of AIDS literature in Central Africa   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The purpose of this paper is to present the preliminary results of a bibliometric analysis of AIDS documents as produced on Sub-Saharan Africa. AIDSLINE 1980-2000 was used to conduct the literature search. In this paper, an analysis was made only of the records retrieved under "Central Africa". Bibexcel (version 2001) and Microsoft Excel (2000) were used as software tools to conduct the analysis of the records. Seven countries and 1052 records were identified. Main participating countries were Democratic Republic of the Congo (527 documents), and Cameroon (271). Results indicated a high pattern of collaboration through multiple authorship. Most documents were published in English (84.50%) and French (14.73%). Over 57% corresponded to journal articles. The subject content of the documents was mainly focused on epidemiological, complications, and prevention & control issues on ‘HIV Infections’ and ‘Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome’. Countries behind this productivity were Cameroon, USA, Democratic Republic of the Congo, France, and Belgium. Comparison of results among Central African countries and among other developing countries is made by the authors. Combinatorial optimization problems are often too complex to be solved within reasonable time limits by exact methods, in spite of the theoretical guarantee that such methods will ultimately obtain an optimal solution. Instead, heuristic methods, which do not offer a convergence guarantee, but which have greater flexibility to take advantage of special properties of the search space, are commonly a preferred alternative. The standard procedure is to craft a heuristic method to suit the particular characteristics of the problem at hand, exploiting to the extent possible the structure available. Such tailored methods, however, typically have limited usefulness in other problems domains.An alternative to this problem specific solution approach is a more general methodology that recasts a given problem into a common modeling format, permitting solutions to be derived by a common, rather than tailor-made, heuristic method. Because such general purpose heuristic approaches forego the opportunity to capitalize on domain-specific knowledge, they are characteristically unable to provide the effectiveness or efficiency of special purpose approaches. Indeed, they are typically regarded to have little value except for dealing with small or simple problems.This paper reports on recent work that calls this commonly held view into question. We describe how a particular unified modeling framework, coupled with latest advances in heuristic search methods, makes it possible to solve problems from a wide range of important model classes.Correspondence to: Gary A. Often, the use of traditional techniques in geotechnical engineering faces obstacles of economical and environmental nature. The addition of cement becomes an attractive technique when the project requires improvement of the local soil. The treatment of soils with cement finds application, for instance, in the construction of pavement base layers, in slope protection of earth dams, and as a support layer for shallow foundations. However, there are no dosage methodologies based on rational criteria as exist in the case of the concrete technology, where the water/cement ratio plays a fundamental role in the assessment of the target strength. This study therefore aims to quantify the influence of the amount of cement, the porosity and the moisture content on the strength of a sandy soil artificially cemented, as well as to evaluate the use of a water/cement ratio and a voids/cement ratio to assess its unconfined compression strength. A number of unconfined compression tests, triaxial compression tests, and measurements of matric suction were carried out. The results show that the unconfined compression strength increased linearly with the increase in the cement content and exponentially with the reduction in porosity of the compacted mixture. The change in moisture content also has a marked effect on the unconfined compression strength of mixtures compacted at the same dry density. It was shown that, for the soil-cement mixture in an unsaturated state (which is usual for compacted fills), the water/cement ratio is not a good parameter for the assessment of unconfined compression strength. In contrast, the voids/cement ratio, defined as the ratio between the porosity of the compacted mixture and the volumetric cement content, is demonstrated to be the most appropriate parameter to assess the unconfined compression strength of the soil-cement mixture studied.  相似文献
