In applications of statistical methods to medical diagnosis, information on patients' diseases and symptoms is collected and the resulting data-base is used to diagnose new patients. The data-structure is complicated by a number of factors, two of which are examined here: selection bias and unstable population. Under reasonable conditions, no correction for selection bias is required when assessing probabilities for diseases based on symptom information, and it is suggested that these "diagnostic distributions" should form the principal object of study. Transformation of these distributions under changing population structure is considered and shown to take on a simple form in many situations. It is argued that the prevailing paradigm of diagnostic statistics, which concentrates on incidence of symptoms for given disease, is largely inappropriate and should be replaced by an emphasis on diagnostic distributions. The generalized logistic model is seen to fit naturally into the new framework.  相似文献

An algorithm for reliability-based optimal design is developed using sampling techniques for estimating the failure probability. The algorithm applies a new method for sensitivity calculations of the failure probability. Initially, the estimates of the failure probability are coarse. As the algorithm progresses towards an optimal design, the number of sample points is increased in an adaptive way leading to better estimates of the failure probability. The algorithm is proven to converge to an optimal design. The applicability of the algorithm is shown in an example from the area of highway bridge design.  相似文献

In a previous study using a mixture of thorium and 20 a/o% LEU at 16 gram per fuel sphere heavy metal loading and adjusting the effective fuel enrichment to produce the same amount of cumulative energy per fuel sphere as with the 10 a/o% Low Enriched Uranium (LEU), the maximum Depressurized Loss Of Forced Cooling (DLOFC) temperature was reduced from 2273 to 1925 °C and 1811 °C for a symmetric and asymmetric core, respectively using an once-through-then-out (OTTO) fuelling scheme. This article presents an additional strategy for reducing the maximum DLOFC temperature by placing an optimized distribution of neutron poisons in the central reflector. This strategy produced maximum DLOFC temperatures of 1509 and 1448 °C for the symmetric and the asymmetric cores, respectively. These results are impressive as it means that the less complicated OTTO cycle with its lower capital cost achieved the same cumulative energy produced per fuel sphere than the standard six-pass refuelling scheme and that at substantially lower maximum DLOFC temperatures. Both the addition of the neutron poisons to the central reflector and the creation of a radially asymmetric core resulted in lower burn-ups that had to be reversed by increasing the enrichment of the fuel.  相似文献

This article presents the results for the PBMR-DPP-400, but for a once-through-then-out (OTTO) refueling scheme. An optimization attempt of the axial and radial power profiles is reported. The main aim was to reduce the maximum depressurized loss of forced coolant (DLOFC) temperature by adding thorium to the fuel and making the fuel layout radially asymmetric by placing lower enriched fuel in the inner and higher enriched fuel in the outer fuel flow regions. These measures (1) flattened the peaks in the axial power profiles and thus suppressed the hotspots in the axial DLOFC temperature profiles and (2) ‘pushed’ the power radially outwards, so as to reduce the distance that the decay heat must be evacuated towards the outside of the fuel core. This resulted in a huge reduction in the maximum DLOFC temperature for the OTTO cycle from 2273 to 1811 °C, which is still above the 1600 °C limit but represents a remarkable result. Maximum DLOFC temperature below the 1600 °C limit was obtained by reducing the power output. The results obtained and the proposed strategies for further improvement are applicable to the Chinese HTR-PM and could produce even better results in Prismatic Block Reactors such as the Japanese HTTR.  相似文献

In their eutectic compositions, Au–Si alloys have a melting point of 369°C, and a colour similar to that of high-grade gold. Results of the manufacture of gold alloys with 2.5%, 2.8% and 3.0% silicon, by means of melting in a plasma furnace with an inert argon atmosphere, are presented in this study. Chemical composition characterisation was carried out by energy dispersion spectroscopy and wave dispersion spectrometry, and metallographic and microstructural analysis by optical microscopy, SEM and DRX, Vickers hardness and mircohardness testing, melting point evaluation by DSC and determination of the SCIELab colorimetric coordinates. The results of the hardness and micro-hardness testing gave values around 110HV, presenting an important increase in the mechanical properties with respect to the traditional high purity gold alloys. The melting temperature for the alloys was around 374°C as well as being a heat very close to the values of pure gold.  相似文献

The mutagenic heterocyclic amines (HAs) originate in processed proteinaceous food. The effects of ageing (non-aged - i.e. 24 h post mortem vs. 14 and 28 days post mortem kept at 1 °C) and final internal temperature on cooking (Ti, 65 and 80 °C) on the content of HAs in grilled steaks (two-plated grill, temperature of 220 °C) were studied. HA precursors (creatine, creatinine, and free amino acids) and ageing indicators, such as instrumentally measured colour values, pHultimate values and length of myofibrilar fragments on raw and cutting values on grilled beef Longissimus dorsi muscles were determined. The muscles originated from eight commercially slaughtered Simmental bulls, 19-20 months old. The content of HAs was determined by a solid-phase extraction procedure. Meat ageing is accompanied by large changes in the chemical composition and structure of muscle tissues. In general, all the ageing indicators and precursors of HAs were influenced by ageing time at the 5% level or less. Creatine content declined significantly (non-aged: 6.00 mg g−1, 14 days: 5.82 mg g−1, and 28 days: 5.55 mg g−1) and creatinine increased with days of ageing (non-aged: 0.19 mg g−1, 14 days: 0.24 mg g−1, and 28 days: 0.26 mg g−1). Higher contents of total free amino acids were determined after 14 and 28 days of storage (28.18 μmol g−1 and 37.59 μmol g−1) than in non-aged beef (19.00 μmol g−1). In this study, two HAs were determined: MeIQx (2-amino-3,8-dimethyl-imidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline) and PhIP (2—amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo-[4,5-b]pyridine). The content of HAs increases with ageing. At lower Ti, more MeIQx was formed; at higher Ti, more PhIP was formed. MeIQx was present in all samples while PhIP was found only in samples grilled to higher Ti. Samples treated to Ti = 80 °C generally contained less HAs (non-aged meat: 0.20 ng g−1, 14 days: 0.26 ng g−1, and 28 days: 0.28 ng g−1) than samples treated to Ti = 65 °C (non-aged meat: 0.19 ng g−1, 14 days: 0.36 ng g−1, and 28 days: 0.39 ng g−1) on account of MeIQx thermolability.  相似文献

Surface-breaking cracks affect the material and structural properties of concrete pipes. Therefore, the nondestructive evaluation of the crack depth is important to assess the serviceability of these pipes, which are commonly used in underground infrastructure and trenchless installations (micro-tunneling). This paper presents theoretical, numerical and experimental results for the depth evaluation of surface-breaking cracks. The wall of a concrete pipe is represented as a plate in the numerical and the analytical studies. In the experiments, an ultrasonic piezoelectric transmitter is used as a source. The propagation of the ultrasonic pulse is analyzed using the wavelet transform. A newly proposed wavelet transmission coefficient (WTC) is measured using an equal spacing configuration for the crack depth evaluation in concrete pipes and concrete plates. The results from laboratory and in situ tests show good potential for the practical application of the WTC for the depth evaluation of surface-breaking cracks.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: We studied factors that affect satisfaction of patients who have undergone placement of peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICCs) by interventional radiologists and patients' willingness to undergo placement of future PICCs. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: This longitudinal prospective consecutive cohort study included 85 patients referred for PICC placement. A record was made of catheter type, time taken for placement, patient age, and possible complications. Follow-up was obtained by telephone interview to determine the effect of site of placement in the arm, residence time of catheter, additional complications, and interference with activities of daily living on patient willingness to undergo future PICC placement at the same site. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine factors statistically predictive of patient willingness to undergo placement of future PICCs. RESULTS: Patients having PICCs placed above the elbow were more often satisfied (55 of 61 respondents) with catheter location than patients having placements at the elbow (three of 17 respondents). Patient willingness to undergo future PICC placement was strongly related to catheter location (p < .0001) and interference with activities of daily living (p < .0001). Catheter type, residence time, time taken for the placement, age, and complications were not associated with patient willingness to undergo future PICC placement. CONCLUSION: PICC placement above the elbow is more acceptable to patients than placement at the elbow. PICC placement above the elbow and patients' perception of less interference by the PICC with activities of daily living are positively related to patient willingness to undergo future PICC placement.  相似文献
