Adsorption of methylene blue on kaolinite   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Methylene blue was adsorbed on kaolin from a local deposit. The raw kaolin itself was a relatively good adsorbent. The adsorption capacity was improved by purification and by treatment with NaOH solution. Calcination of the kaolin reduced the adsorption capacity. The adsorption data could be fitted by the Freundlich and Langmuir equations. Also, the thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH0, ΔS0 and ΔG0 were determined.  相似文献

A novel material was prepared through the blending of an unsaturated polyester resin/styrene mix with tung oil, which offered improved impact strength, creep resistance, modulus, and hardness. A nanoindentation technique was used to investigate the mechanical properties. With the incorporation of 1 wt % tung oil into the unsaturated polyester matrix, the impact strength, modulus, and hardness increased by 15, 20, and 41%, respectively. The impact‐fractured surfaces were examined with scanning electron microscopy. The dynamic mechanical analysis was performed with a nanoindentation technique. The storage and loss modulus values were determined under cyclic loading as a function of indentation. The flexural properties also significantly increased with the incorporation of tung oil. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotube (F‐MWCNT) based composite films were prepared using solution casting method. Nanoindentation and scratch measurements were carried out to study the influence of F‐MWCNT as the reinforcement on the mechanical properties of the composite at the sub‐micron scale. The composites were prepared with varying weight percentages of F‐MWCNT in the PMMA matrix. The composites containing an adequate amount (0.25 wt%) of F‐MWCNT was found to demonstrate the maximum nanomechanical properties, viz. hardness, elastic modulus, recovery index. Scratch resistance measured in terms of coefficient of friction, also showed maximum value for the PMMA composite reinforced with 0.25 wt% of F‐MWCNT. POLYM. Cellulose micro/nanofibers (CNF), prepared from jute fibers were surface treated with methyl methacrylate (MMA) for better dispersion into poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) matrix. PMMA/cellulose composites were prepared by in situ suspension polymerization technique. The surface treatment of CNF was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis. MMA‐treated cellulose micro/nanofibers (MCNF) demonstrated improved affinity and dispersion in MMA monomer as well as in the PMMA/cellulose composites. Thermal properties of the cellulose composites were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The glass transition temperature (Tg) of PMMA increased by nearly 19°C in the in situ cellulose composites compared to that of unreinforced PMMA as indicated by DSC. TGA showed increased thermal stability of the cellulose composites. Enhanced tensile properties as well as significantly lower moisture uptake were observed in the in situ prepared PMMA/cellulose composites. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Summary: Vinylester resin matrix composites were fabricated with 1, 3, 5 and 10 wt.‐% loadings of organoclay. The composite samples were subjected to various characterization techniques like X‐ray diffraction, flexural testing, dynamic mechanical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The clay samples as well as the clay–resin composites were investigated by X‐ray diffraction. From the shift in the peak positions and the change in d‐spacing values, it was evident that there was intercalation in the 10 wt.‐% composites, whereas exfoliation occurred in the 1, 3, and 5 wt.‐% composites. The flexural strength and the breaking energy of all the composites were decreased compared with the unfilled resin, but there was an increase in flexural modulus value by 13%. From the dynamic mechanical analysis of the 3 and the 5 wt.‐% composites, it was observed that the loss modulus value was higher in the 3 wt.‐% composites, but the glass transition temperature was slightly higher in the 5 wt.‐% composites. Thermal degradation behavior was also improved in the 5 wt.‐% composites compared with the 3 wt.‐% composites.

The use of interleaved polyethylene terephthalate (PET) veils to increase the interlaminar fracture toughness of glass fiber‐reinforced, low‐styrene emission, unsaturated polyester resin composites, was investigated. PET, being chemically similar to the unsaturated polyester resin, was expected to exhibit good wetting and strong interaction with the matrix. Composite laminates were manufactured by hand lay‐up, with the veil content varying up to 7%. The effects of PET veils on the interlaminar shear strength, flexural strength, flexural modulus, glass transition temperature, damping parameters, and Mode‐I interlaminar fracture toughness of the composite were studied. The veils were found to enhance most of these properties, with only minor negative effects on flexural stiffness and Tg. The PET/resin bonding did indeed prove to be strong, but the enhancement of fracture toughness was not as much as expected, because of the weaker glass/resin interface providing an alternative crack propagation path. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermal behavior of vinyl ester resin matrix composites reinforced with jute fibers treated for 2, 4, 6, and 8 h with 5% NaOH was studied with Thermo‐gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The moisture desorption peak shifted to a higher temperature, from 37 to 58.3°C, for all the treated‐fiber composites because of improved wetting of the fibers by the resin and stronger bonding at the interface. The degradation temperature of the vinyl ester resin in the composites was lowered to 410.3°C from that of the neat resin, 418.8°C. The X‐ray diffraction studies showed increased crystallinity of the treated fibers, which affected the enthalpy of the α‐cellulose and hemicellulose degradation. The hemicellulose degradation temperature remained the same (299.7°C) in all the treated‐fiber composites, but the enthalpy associated with the hemicellulose degradation showed an increasing trend in the treated composites with a small increase in the weight loss. This could be attributed to the increased hydrogen bonding between the more accessible ? OH groups of the hemicellulose in the noncrystalline region of the jute fiber and the resin. The degradation temperature of α‐cellulose was lowered from 364.2 to 356.8°C in the treated composites. The enthalpy of α‐cellulose degradation showed a decreasing trend with a lowering of the weight loss. The crystalline regions of the fiber, consisting of closely packed α‐cellulose chains, were bonded with the resin mainly on the surface through hydrogen bonds and became more resistant to thermal degradation; this reduced the weight loss. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Sustainable composites were developed from fly ash (FA) and recycled polypropylene (R) with lauric acid (LA) as the coupling agent. The FA particles were surface‐coated with 1, 2, 3, and 5 wt % LA, and the coating on the FA particles was verified by transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. R and LA‐coated FA particles were melt‐mixed in a 1:1 weight ratio to achieve a high‐filler‐loaded composite. The flexural, impact, nanoindentation, and fracture surface analyses were carried out to examine the properties of the composites. The flexural strength and modulus values increased in the 2 wt % LA‐coated FA/R composites by 6 and 50%, respectively, compared to the values of the uncoated FA/R composites, whereas the impact strength increased considerably by 119% in the 1 wt % LA‐coated composites. Nanoindentation tests also showed an increase in the mechanical properties in the case of the 1 and 2 wt % LA‐coated composites in comparison to the uncoated ones. Fracture surface studies done by scanning electron microscopy revealed improved interfacial interactions between the filler and matrix in the presence of the LA coupling agent. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) studies indicated reorientations of the polymer chains in the presence of different concentrations of the LA coupling agent; this resulted into different crystallinities and crystallite sizes. Differential scanning calorimetry showed a significant difference in the crystalline peaks of the composites, and this corroborated well with the XRD observations. LA, thus, significantly influenced the structural properties of the composites, and this, in turn, influenced their mechanical and thermal properties. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Two industrial wastes, fly ash (FA) and recycled polypropylene (RPP) were used to prepare a value‐added, sustainable, low cost composite material. Improving the interfacial interaction between the hydrophobic RPP matrix and the hydrophilic FA particles is important to get a good combination of properties. In order to tailor the interface, stearic acid was used as the coupling agent. The FA particles were coated with a saturated fatty acid, stearic acid (SA), in different weight % like 1, 2, 3, and 5. The SA coated fly ash particles were incorporated as filler in RPP matrix composites by melt mixing in 1 : 1 weight ratio. The composites were tested for their flexural properties, impact behavior, dynamic mechanical properties, fracture surface analysis, X‐ray diffraction (XRD) study, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). An increase in flexural modulus and impact strength was observed in the stearic acid coated FA/RPP composites. In 1 wt % SA treated FA/RPP (RFASA1) composites, a significant increase in glass transition temperature was observed along with an increase in crystallinity. A green, renewable, inexpensive chemical like stearic acid was thus found to be an effective coupling agent in fabrication of a composite with 50 wt % filler loading. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
