In order to assess if productivity based on extrapolated data is a good predictor of longer texts, an experimental study was conducted. Two full-sized text input devices for touch typing and two miniaturized for tapping were used, all featuing QWERTY layout, in a repeated measurement design. Twenty subjects were exposed to both a task within the limit of working memory (nine words) and four running memory tasks (approx. 275 words). For miniaturized tapping keyboards, extrapolated data significantly underestimated both entry speed (uncorrected wpm, up to 17%) and character error rate (up to 61%) whereas it significantly overestimated ratio of correct words (up to 62%) of running memory tasks. Further, error-corrected entry speed was significantly overestimated up to a factor of 2.7. Results based on extrapolated productivity metrics must therefore be interpreted with caution. Running memory tasks with text length of more than 32 words is needed to assess productivity of text input devices if tapping is used.  相似文献

This paper presents the generalization of weighted distances to modules and their computation through the chamfer algorithm on general point lattices. The first part is dedicated to formalization of definitions and properties (distance, metric, norm) of weighted distances on modules. It resumes tools found in literature to express the weighted distance of any point of a module and to compute optimal weights in the general case to get rotation invariant distances. The second part of this paper proves that, for any point lattice, the sequential two-scan chamfer algorithm produces correct distance maps. Finally, the definitions and computation of weighted distances are applied to the face-centered cubic (FCC) and body-centered cubic (BCC) grids.  相似文献

The distribution of substituents along the polymer chain in cationic potato amylopectin starch, modified in solution, granular slurry, or dry state, was investigated. The starch derivatives were successively hydrolyzed by different enzymes, followed by characterization of the hydrolysis products obtained by means of electrospray mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). ESI-MS and MALDI-MS were proved to be appropriate techniques for identification of the substituted hydrolysis products, for which there are no standard compounds available. No highly substituted oligomers were found in the hydrolysates, which was taken as an indication of a more or less homogeneous distribution of cationic groups in the amylopectin molecules. Furthermore, from the results obtained it was suggested that the enzymes cleave glucosidic linkages only between unsubstituted glucose units and, preferentially, linkages in sequences containing more than two adjacent unsubstituted units. The determination of the amount of unsubstituted glucose produced from every successive hydrolysis step revealed slight differences between the different starch samples with respect to the homogeneity of the substitution pattern. Among the three samples under investigation, starch cationized in solution was found to have the most and dry-cationized starch the least homogeneous distribution of substituents.  相似文献

The depletion of stratospheric ozone due to the effects of ozone-depleting substances, such as volatile organohalogens, emitted into the atmosphere from industrial and natural sources has increased the amount of ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth's surface. Especially in the subpolar and polar regions, where stratospheric ozone destruction is the highest, individual organisms and whole ecosystems can be affected. In a laboratory study, several species of marine macroalgae occurring in the polar and northern temperate regions were exposed to elevated levels of ultraviolet radiation. Most of the macroalgae released significantly more chloroform, bromoform, dibromomethane, and methyl iodide-all volatile organohalogens. Calculating on the basis of the release of total chlorine, bromine, and iodine revealed that, except for two macroalgae emitting chlorine and one alga emitting iodine, exposure to ultraviolet radiation caused macroalgae to emit significantly more total chlorine, bromine, and iodine. Increasing levels of ultraviolet radiation due to possible further destruction of the stratospheric ozone layer as a result of ongoing global atmospheric warming may thus increase the future importance of marine macroalgae as a source for the global occurrence of reactive halogen-containing compounds.  相似文献

Tannins, a large and diverse group of phenolic secondary metabolites, are common in terrestrial plants and marine brown algae. It is sometimes desirable to remove the tannins from plant or algal extracts, e.g., when isolating enzymes and nucleic acids, when using certain colorimetric methods to quantify the tannin content, or to create reliable controls when using tannins in experimental studies. Insoluble polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (PVPP) can be used to specifically remove tannins from solution. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of different factors (amount of PVPP, number of PVPP treatments, type of solvent, pH, and incubation time) on the PVPP removal of dissolved brown algal phlorotannins. Our results imply that there is a limited amount of phlorotannins that can bind to a given amount of PVPP, and that it is preferable to use low quantities of PVPP repeatedly, compared to using fewer treatments with a high amount of PVPP. Furthermore, we found no consistent effect on the removal of phlorotannins due to solvent type (acetone, methanol, distilled water or filtered seawater). There was a slight decrease in the amount of phlorotannins removed from extracts with increasing pH when repeatedly treated with PVPP. All phlorotannins were removed from extracts with pH 6.2, and 89% of the initial phlorotannin content was removed at pH 9.7. These results are compared with previous methodological studies on tannin removal with PVPP. Furthermore, the implications of phlorotannin removal in analytical and ecological investigations are discussed.  相似文献

The aim was to investigate the effects of ageing large beef cuts, 10-cm-long longissimus dorsi (LD) and 4-cm-long semimembranosus (SM), on colour stability during subsequent storage of steaks in air for 5 days. Ageing solely in high oxygen modified atmosphere (MA, 80% O2 + 20% CO2) for 5 or 10 days or ageing in vacuum for 5 or 15 days followed by high oxygen MA for 5 or 10 days were compared with ageing in vacuum for 5, 15 and 25 days at 4 °C. Ageing system and ageing time influenced colour stability. For short ageing times, 5 to 10 days, large beef cuts could be aged in high oxygen MA without negative effect on colour stability compared with vacuum ageing. Longer ageing times, 15 to 25 days, decreased colour stability. Then vacuum ageing was preferable to ageing in vacuum for 5 or 15 days followed by high oxygen MA.  相似文献

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) are commonly used flame retardants. During the past years, concerns have increased due to their occurrence in the environment and humans. In general, the concentrations of lower brominated (tetra-penta) diphenyl ethers in biota exceed those of the most heavily used product, decabromodiphenyl ether (DecaBDE). In this study, the photolytic debromination of DecaBDE has been investigated in order to study the formation of lower brominated diphenyl ethers. The time course of photolysis of DecaBDE was studied in toluene, on silica gel, sand, sediment and soil using artificial sunlight and on the natural matrices (sediment, soil, sand) also using natural sunlight. DecaBDE was photolytically labile and formed debromination products in all matrices studied. Nona- to tetraBDEs were formed as well as some PBDFs. The half-lives in toluene and on silica gel were less than 15 min, and half-lives on other matrices ranged between 40 and 200 h. No differences were seen in the debromination pattern of BDE congeners sequentially formed in the different matrices or under different light conditions. However, the debromination rates were strongly dependent on the matrix with longer half-lives on natural matrices than artificial ones.  相似文献

Three alleles at the PRKAG3 (RN) locus that influence the glycogen content of pork were found to be segregating in Hampshire×Landrace crossbred pigs, RN(-), rn(+) as well as second mutant allele V 199I (here denoted rn*). The effect of these three alleles on ultimate pH, pigment content, internal reflectance (FOP), surface colour measured by tristimulus colorimetry (L*, a*, b*) and fractions of deoxymyoglobin (Mb), oxymyoglobin (MbO(2)) and metmyoglobin (MetMb) of pork loin was studied. Moreover, the effect of sex, entire male versus female pigs, on these traits was also analysed. The three PRKAG3 alleles affected ultimate pH, internal reflectance, colour and distribution of myoglobin derivatives of pork loin, while the pigment content was not influenced. Ultimate pH values of loins from the three genotypes were found to be in the order RN(-)/- genotypes rn(+)/rn(+) genotype=rn(+)/rn* genotype=rn*/rn* genotype. The RN(-) allele was dominant resulting in higher redness (a* value) and yellowness (b* value), while the rn* allele tended to result in lower redness and yellowness compared with the rn* allele. The RN(-) allele was dominant over the rn* allele in lightness (L* value) giving a lighter colour. Surface colour differences were mainly explained by differences in the distribution of the myoglobin derivatives. Finally, surface lightness was higher and pigment content, redness and fraction of MbO(2) lower in loin from entire males compared with females.  相似文献

A comparison was made on the use of two spectrophotometric methods, the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) method and the 2,2'-azinobis-3-ethylbenzotiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) method, for the measurement of the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of plant foods. The correlations of TAC measured by the two methods were highly significant in both water-soluble (r2= 0.90) and water-insoluble extracts (r2= 0.98) from 13 strawberry samples. Also a corresponding comparison of TAC in extracts from 14 plant species showed high correlation coefficients, r2= 0.98 for water-soluble extracts and r2= 0.88 for water-insoluble extracts. The ratio of TAC values obtained with the two methods (ABTS/FRAP) varied between 0.7 and 3.3 for different plant extracts indicating that they contained antioxidants with varying reactivity in the two methods. TACs in six pure antioxidant substances were ranked in the following order by both methods: quercetin > ferulic acid > catechin > rutin > caffeic acid > Trolox = chlorogenic acid. The two methods showed similar TAC values for quercetin, rutin, caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid while ferulic acid and catechin gave higher results with the ABTS method than with the FRAP method, and such differences probably explain the varying ratios of ABTS/FRAP obtained in foods. Regarding storage TAC in water-soluble strawberry extracts stored at -20 or -80 degrees C was stable for at least five months while storage at 4 degrees C decreased the TAC value with 40% during five weeks of storage. The study showed that both the ABTS and FRAP methods can be used for convenient monitoring of the antioxidant capacities in fruit and vegetables, and that different antioxidants had varying reactivity in the two methods.  相似文献
