We theoretically investigate light trapping with disordered 1D photonic structures in thin‐film crystalline silicon solar cells. The disorder is modelled in a finite‐size supercell, which allows the use of rigorous coupled‐wave analysis to calculate the optical properties of the devices and the short‐circuit current density Jsc. The role of the Fourier transform of the photonic pattern in the light trapping is investigated, and the optimal correlation between size and position disorder is found. This result is used to optimize the disorder in a more effective way, using a single parameter. We find that a Gaussian disorder always enhances the device performance with respect to the best ordered configuration. To properly quantify this improvement, we calculate the Lambertian limit to the absorption enhancement for 1D photonic structures in crystalline silicon, following the previous work for the 2D case [M.A. Green, Progr. Photovolt: Res. Appl. 2002; 10 (4), pp. 235–241]. We find that disorder optimization can give a relevant contribution to approach this limit. Finally, we propose an optimal disordered 2D configuration and estimate the maximum short‐circuit current that can be achieved, potentially leading to efficiencies that are comparable with the values of other thin‐film solar cell technologies. Data sets of US Holsteins, Israeli Holsteins, and pigs from PIC (a Genus company, Hendersonville, TN) were used to evaluate the effect of different numbers of generations on ability to predict genomic breeding values of young genotyped animals. The influence of including only 2 generations of ancestors (A2) or all ancestors (Af) was also investigated. A total of 34,506 US Holsteins, 1,305 Israeli Holsteins, and 5,236 pigs were genotyped. The evaluations were computed by traditional BLUP and single-step genomic BLUP, and computing performance was assessed for the latter method. For the 2 Holstein data sets, coefficients of determination (R2) and regression (δ) of deregressed evaluations from a full data set with records up to 2011 on estimated breeding values and genomic estimated breeding values from the truncated data sets were computed. The thresholds for data deletion were set by intervals of 5 yr, based on the average generation interval in dairy cattle. For the PIC data set, correlations between corrected phenotypes and estimated or genomic estimated breeding values were used to evaluate predictive ability on young animals born in 2010 and 2011. The reduced data set contained data up to 2009, and the thresholds were set based on an average generation interval of 3 yr. The number of generations that could be deleted without a reduction in accuracy depended on data structure and trait. For US Holsteins, removing 3 and 4 generations of data did not reduce accuracy of evaluations for final score in Af and A2 scenarios, respectively. For Israeli Holsteins, the accuracies for milk, fat, and protein yields were the highest when only phenotypes recorded in 2000 and later were included and full pedigrees were applied. Of the 135 Israeli bulls with genotypes (validation set) and daughter records only in the complete data set, 38 and 97 were sons of Israeli and foreign bulls, respectively. Although more phenotypic data increased the prediction accuracy for sons of Israeli bulls, the reverse was true for sons of foreign bulls. Also, more phenotypic data caused large inflation of genomic estimated breeding values for sons of foreign bulls, whereas the opposite was true with the deletion of all but the most recent phenotypic data. Results for protein and fat percentage were different from those for milk, fat, and protein yields; however, relatively, the changes in coefficients of determination and regression were smaller for percentage traits. For PIC data set, removing data from up to 5 generations did not erode predictive ability for genotyped animals for the 2 reproductive traits used in validation. Given the data used in this study, truncating old data reduces computation requirements but does not decrease the accuracy. For small populations that include local and imported animals, truncation may be beneficial for one group of animals and detrimental to another group.  相似文献

Halogen bonding is arguably the least exploited among the many non‐covalent interactions used in dictating molecular self‐assembly. However, its directionality renders it unique compared to ubiquitous hydrogen bonding. Here, the role of this directionality in controlling the performance of light‐responsive supramolecular polymers is highlighted. In particular, it is shown that light‐induced surface patterning, a unique phenomenon occurring in azobenzene‐containing polymers, is more efficient in halogen‐bonded polymer–azobenzene complexes than in the analogous hydrogen‐bonded complexes. A systematic study is performed on a series of azo dyes containing different halogen or hydrogen bonding donor moieties, complexed to poly(4‐vinylpyridine) backbone. Through single‐atom substitution of the bond‐donor, control of both the strength and the nature of the noncovalent interaction between the azobenzene units and the polymer backbone is achieved. Importantly, such substitution does not significantly alter the electronic properties of the azobenzene units, hence providing us with unique tools in studying the structure–performance relationships in the light‐induced surface deformation process. The results represent the first demonstration of light‐responsive halogen‐bonded polymer systems and also highlight the remarkable potential of halogen bonding in fundamental studies of photoresponsive azobenzene‐containing polymers.  相似文献

Methyl esters of benzoic and mesitoic acid have been prepared with high yields (>98 wt%) from the corresponding carboxylic acids + methanol in aprotic solvents over samples of H2SO4/SiO2 at 60°C. The results show a high catalytic efficiency of the solids but also suggest an acid strength comparable to that observed in concentrated aqueous H2SO4 (range >90 wt%) when the acid requirements for the esterification of analogous compounds in aqueous acid solutions are taken into account. Indeed, different reacting species, i.e., ArC(OH) 2 + from benzoic acid and 2,4,6‐triMe‐ArC=O+ from mesitoic acid are involved in the esterification, but the mesitoyl cation can be formed and esterified in the acidity ranges between 92 and 98 wt% H2SO4. The aim of this study was to investigate the survival of Campylobacter jejuni in dairy matrices by viability qPCR. Survival in UHT milk was examined first and the cheese outbreak strain, C. jejuni 11 218 showed enhanced tendency to become viable but nonculturable (VBNC). It survived for long at different pH values, in raw and fermented milk and cheese. Viability qPCR was also used to examine the occurrence of viable Campylobacter spp. in raw milk, detecting the bacteria in 40.9% of 25 mL samples negative on culture. Results showed that viability qPCR is valuable in estimating Campylobacter risk in dairy products.  相似文献
