Dry-out phenomena in packed beds or porous media may cause a significant digression of cooling/reaction performance in heat transfer/chemical reactor systems. One of the phenomena responsible for the dry-out in packed beds is known as the counter-current flow limitation (CCFL). In order to investigate the CCFL phenomena induced by gas–liquid two-phase flow in packed beds inside a pool, a natural circulation packed bed test facility was designed and constructed. A total of 27 experimental conditions covering various packing media sizes (sphere diameters: 3.0, 6.4 and 9.5 mm), packed bed heights (15, 35 and 50 cm) and water level heights (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 m) were tested to examine the CCFL criteria with adiabatic air–water two-phase flow under natural circulation conditions. Both CCFL and flow reversal phenomena were observed, and the experimental data including instantaneous and time-averaged void fraction, differential pressure and superficial gas–liquid velocities were collected. The CCFL criteria were determined when periodical oscillations of void fraction and differential pressure appear. In addition, the Wallis correlation for CCFL was utilized for data analysis, and the Wallis coefficient, C, was determined experimentally from the packed bed CCFL tests. Compared to the existing data-sets in literature, the higher C values obtained in the present experiment suggest a possibly higher dry-out heat flux for natural circulation debris systems, which may be due to the water supply from both top and bottom surfaces of the packed beds. Considering the effects of bed height and hydraulic diameter of the packing media, a newly developed model for the Wallis coefficient, C, under natural circulation CCFL is presented. The present model can predict the experimental data with an averaged absolute error of ±7.9%.  相似文献

A method for the automated alignment of optical waveguides and fibers based on a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm is proposed. This algorithm reduces the number of parallel operations considerably compared to previous automation schemes. The automated alignment of a single-core input fiber with a channel waveguide and a single-core output fiber is completed using this system in less than 3 min. The alignment of a single-core input fiber with a 1x8 splitter coupler and an eight-core output fiber array is completed in less than 10 min. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme for automated waveguide alignment, substantially outperforming previous automatic alignment methods.  相似文献

The crystal and electronic structures, as well as the luminescence properties of Sr2Al2−xSi1+xO7−xNx:Eu2+ are reported. First-principles calculations energetically confirm that the Al and Si atoms are in partial ordering in the 2a and 4e sites in Sr2Al2SiO7. In addition, the band structure calculation shows that Sr2Al2SiO7 has an indirect band gap with an energy gap of about 4.07 eV, which is in good agreement with the experimental data (5.3 eV) obtained from the diffuse reflection spectrum. The crystal structure of Sr2Al2SiO7 can be modified by Si–N substitution for Al–O in the lattice with a maximum solubility of about x=0.6. The average bond length of EuSr-(O,N) slightly increases although the lattice parameters decrease with the incorporation of Si–N in Sr2Al2SiO7:Eu2+. Under excitation in the visible spectral region, Sr2Al2−xSi1+xO7−xNx:Eu2+ emits blue to yellow light with a broad emission band in the range of 480–570 nm, varying with both the Eu concentration and the x value. The red shift of the emission band of Eu2+ is associated with an increase in the crystal-field splitting and the covalency, which arise from the incorporation of nitrogen as well as the energy transfer between the Eu ions at high Eu concentrations. Moreover, the Eu ions have a strong effect on both the concentration quenching and the thermal quenching in Sr2Al2−xSi1+xO7−xNx. The temperature dependence of photoluminescence indicates that Sr2Al2−xSi1+xO7−xNx:Eu2+ shows strong thermal quenching due to the dominant nonradiative process at room temperature.  相似文献

Photocatalysis of a hollandite compound KxGaxSn8−xO16 (x = ca. 1.8) was examined for the reduction of nitrate ion with a reducing agent of methanol in water under UV irradiation. Hollandites have a characteristic one-dimensional tunnel structure. The hollandite powder, which was prepared by the sol–gel method and unloaded with any additives like metals, was used as the photocatalyst and its photocatalytic reaction was analyzed quantitatively by using ion chromatography and on-line mass spectrometry, and its reaction mechanism was analyzed by in-situ FT-IR. The hollandite photocatalyst showed a significant activity for the formation of N2 from NO3. The nitrate was reduced to N2 and NO2, while the reducing agent methanol was partly oxidized to change to formic acid. The conversion of NO3was proportional to the yields of N2, NO2, and HCOO. The present photocatalyzed decomposition of NO3 to N2 would be a useful photocatalysis for the environmental protection of water.  相似文献

By using an oxynitride glass composition from the Y-Mg-Si-Al-O-N system as a sintering additive, the effect of atmosphere on densification was investigated during the liquid-phase sintering of SiC, and the resulting microstructure and mechanical properties of the sintered and subsequently annealed materials were investigated. SiC ceramics that were densified with 10 wt% oxynitride glass showed higher sinterability in a nitrogen atmosphere. Oxynitride glass enlarged the stability region of β-SiC and suppressed β→ alpha phase transformation, which resulted in an equiaxed microstructure. Grain growth of fine-grained SiC in some extent (up to ∼300 nm) was beneficial in improving both room-temperature strength and toughness. The best results were obtained when the ceramics were hot-pressed at 1800°C for 1 h in a nitrogen atmosphere and subsequently annealed at 1900°C for 3 h in an argon atmosphere. The room-temperature flexural strength and fracture toughness of the material were 847 MPa and 3.5 MPa·m1/2, respectively.  相似文献

Radiation crosslinking of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) with a degree of substitution (DS) from 0.7 to 2.2 was the subject of the current investigation. CMC was irradiated in solid‐state and aqueous solutions at various irradiation doses. The DS and the concentration of the aqueous solution had a remarkable affect on the crosslinking of CMC. Irradiation of CMC, even with a high DS, 2.2 in solid state, and a low DS, 0.7 in 10% aqueous solution, resulted in degradation. However, it was found that irradiation of CMC with a relatively high DS, 1.32, led to crosslinking in a 5% aqueous solution, and 20% CMC gave the highest gel fraction. CMC with a DS of 2.2 induced higher crosslinking than that with a DS of 1.32 at lower doses with the same concentration. Hence, it was apparent that a high DS and a high concentration in an aqueous solution were favorable for high crosslinking of CMC. It is assumed that high radiation crosslinking of CMC was induced by the increased mobility of its molecules in water and by the formation of CMC radicals from the abstraction of H atoms from macromolecules in the intermediate products of water radiolysis. In recent years, very fast dividers have been required for the real-time application of digital signal processing, robot control, and the like. This paper proposes a high-speed cellular array divider with a selection function that is based on the non-restoring algorithm and can deal with both fixed-point and negative operands in two's complement form. This divider uses new techniques that can generate in parallel both the quotient bit of one row and a partial remainder and CLS bit of the next row. The delay time of the proposed divider is calculated in terms of a delay of one unit such as a NAND gate. Finally, by using PARTHENON, a CAD (computer-aided design) system for VLSI, this divider is designed and evaluated. As a result, elimination of the delay time for even rows becomes possible. Thus, the delay time can be decreased to approximately one half that of the high-speed divider proposed by Cappa and Hamacher, which uses the most general high-speed techniques of carry-save and CLA.  相似文献

Verification of the applicability of the linearized thermoacoustic theory proposed in 1988 by Swift, J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 84 , (4), 1145–1180, to an acoustic- resonance tube refrigerator and discussions on the advanced linearized theory were conducted through a comparison with the measured temperature distribution along the stack in a simulated acoustic-resonance tube. The measured temperature in all cases of various stack configurations such as stack plate spacing and length showed an almost linear distribution along the stack, while Swift's linearized theory gave a curved distribution with relatively large deviation from experimental data. Eddy diffusivity and/or steady streaming effects excited by sound waves were taken into account in the linearized model, and the effects of these terms on the prediction of temperature distribution were examined. The agreement between theory and experiment was markedly improved by the introduction of steady streaming. Improvement of processability of Poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) was achieved by introduction of a branch structure using gamma‐irradiation from a 60Co source. Irradiated PCL has higher molecular weight by producting a branch structure. Hence, the irradiation at a lower dose, such as 3 Mrad, leads to a higher melt viscosity. The branched structure gave improved properties for dynamic viscoelasticity and elongational viscosity. High elongational viscosity was observed by entanglement due to branch chain formed during irradiation, and the elongational viscosity for 3 Mrad is higher than 1.5 Mrad. Due to a higher elongational viscosity, PCL foam can be produced by a molding process. Foam produced from irradiated PCL pellets at 3 Mrad has honeycomb‐like structure, and the foam showed higher enzymatic degradation compared to film samples. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
