Abstract— Electrowetting‐based displays have been successfully demonstrated in reflective mode, showing video capability and high optical performance. However, because this technology is based on a high‐efficiency optical switch operating between a light‐absorbing state and a light‐transmitting state, the technology lends itself naturally to a transmissive mode enabling a complete range of applications. This paper describes the first active‐matrix full‐color transmissive electrowetting displays including its main technical and system aspects. Two architectures have been demonstrated: one uses color filters, the other field‐sequential‐color illumination. The paper also introduces alternative concepts for more efficient color transmissive electrowetting displays with multiple absorbing layers.  相似文献

In this work we describe a 96-well microplate assay for oversulfated chondroitin sulfate A (OSCS) in heparin, based on a water-soluble cationic polythiophene polymer (3-(2-(N-(N'-methylimidazole))ethoxy)-4-methylthiophene (LPTP)) and heparinase digestion of heparin. The assay takes advantage of several unique properties of heparin, OSCS, and LPTP, including OSCS inhibition of heparinase I and II activity, the molecular weight dependence of heparin-LPTP spectral shifts, and the distinct association of heparin fragments and OSCS to LPTP. These factors combine to enable detection of the presence of 0.003% w/w spiked OSCS in 10 μg of heparin sodium active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) using a plate reader and with visual detection to 0.1% levels. The same detection limit for OSCS was observed in the presence of 10% levels of dermatan sulfate (DS) or chondroitin sulfate A (CSA) impurities. In addition, we surveyed a selection of crude heparin samples received by the agency in 2008 and 2009 to determine average and extreme DS, CSA, and galactosamine weight percent levels. In the presence of these impurities and the variable heparin content in the crude heparin samples, spiked OSCS was reliably detected to the 0.1% w/w level using a plate reader. Finally, authentically OSCS contaminated heparin sodium API and crude samples were distinguished visually by color from control samples using the LPTP/heparinase test.  相似文献

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a tumor treatment modality in which a tumorlocalized photosensitizer is excited with light, which results in local production of reactive oxygen species, destruction of tumor vasculature, tumor hypoxia, tumor cell death, and induction of an anti-tumor immune response. However, pre-existing tumor hypoxia may desensitize tumors to PDT by activating the hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) survival pathway. Therefore, we hypothesized that inhibition of HIF-1 with acriflavine (ACF) would exacerbate cell death in human epidermoid carcinoma (A431) cells. PDT of A431 tumor cells was performed using newly developed and optimized PEGylated cationic liposomes containing the photosensitizer zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPC). Molecular docking revealed that ACF binds to the dimerization domain of HIF-1α, and confocal microscopy confirmed translocation of ACF from the cytosol to the nucleus under hypoxia. HIF-1 was stabilized in hypoxic, but not normoxic, A431 cells following PDT. Inhibition of HIF-1 with ACF increased the extent of PDT-induced cell death under hypoxic conditions and reduced the expression of the HIF-1 target genes VEGF, PTGS2, and EDN1. Moreover, co-encapsulation of ACF in the aqueous core of ZnPC-containing liposomes yielded an adjuvant effect on PDT efficacy that was comparable to non-encapsulated ACF. In conclusion, HIF-1 contributes to A431 tumor cell survival following PDT with liposomal ZnPC. Inhibition of HIF-1 with free or liposomal ACF improves PDT efficacy.

Process mining is a tool to extract non-trivial and useful information from process execution logs. These so-called event logs (also called audit trails, or transaction logs) are the starting point for various discovery and analysis techniques that help to gain insight into certain characteristics of the process. In this paper we use a combination of process mining techniques to discover multiple perspectives (namely, the control-flow, data, performance, and resource perspective) of the process from historic data, and we integrate them into a comprehensive simulation model. This simulation model is represented as a colored Petri net (CPN) and can be used to analyze the process, e.g., evaluate the performance of different alternative designs. The discovery of simulation models is explained using a running example. Moreover, the approach has been applied in two case studies; the workflows in two different municipalities in the Netherlands have been analyzed using a combination of process mining and simulation. Furthermore, the quality of the CPN models generated for the running example and the two case studies has been evaluated by comparing the original logs with the logs of the generated models.  相似文献

Summary. The purpose of compact routing is to provide a labeling of the nodes of a network and a way to encode the routing tables, so that routing can be performed efficiently (e.g., on shortest paths) whilst keeping the memory-space required to store the routing tables as small as possible. In this paper, we answer a long-standing conjecture by showing that compact routing may also assist in the performance of distributed computations. In particular, we show that a network supporting a shortest path interval routing scheme allows broadcasting with a message-complexity of O(n), where n is the number of nodes of the network. As a consequence, we prove that O(n) messages suffice to solve leader-election for any graph labeled by a shortest path interval routing scheme, improving the previous known bound of O(m+n). A general consequence of our result is that a shortest path interval routing scheme contains ample structural information to avoid developing ad-hoc or network-specific solutions for basic problems that distributed systems must handle repeatedly. Circulant graphs are regular graphs based on Cayley graphs defined on the Abelian group \(\mathbb{Z}_{n}\) . They are popular network topologies that arise in distributed computing. Using number theoretical tools, we first prove two main results for random directed k-regular circulant graphs with n vertices, when n is sufficiently large and k is fixed. First, for any fixed ε>0, n=p prime and Lp 1/k (logp)1+1/k+ε , walks of length at most L terminate at every vertex with asymptotically the same probability. Second, for any n, there is a polynomial time algorithm that for almost all undirected 2r-regular circulant graphs finds a vertex bisector and an edge bisector, both of size less than n 1?1/r+o(1). We then prove that the latter result also holds for all (rather than for almost all) 2r-regular circulant graphs with n=p, prime, vertices, while, in general, it does not hold for composite n. Using the bisection results, we provide lower bounds on the number of rounds required by any gossiping algorithms for any n. We introduce generic distributed algorithms to solve the gossip problem in any circulant graphs. We illustrate the efficiency of these algorithms by giving nearly matching upper bounds of the number of rounds required by these algorithms in the vertex-disjoint and the edge-disjoint paths communication models in particular circulant graphs.  相似文献

A recently developed in vitro gastrointestinal model was evaluated for the estimation of the bioavailability of Fe and phosphorus and its correlation with biovailability in vivo. In vitro experiments were carried out without and with phytase supplementation (750 FTU kg-1 feed) using rapeseed, sunflowerseed, wholewheat and white wheat flour. Phytase addition during in vitro digestion of rapeseed and sunflowerseed resulted in markedly increased dialysability of iron (67% and 20%) and phosphorus (31% and 66%). The release of free phosphorus during digestion of wholewheat and white wheat flour in the in vitro gastrointestinal model was observed to be correlated with the endogenous phytase activity in wheat. Comparison with different in vivo studies revealed that the in vitro gastrointestinal model could be used for a relative estimation of the bioavailability of Fe and phosphorus. © 1997 SCI.  相似文献

As part of the study on the effects of parapets on wind-induced loads on low buildings, measurements of the pressures on parapet surfaces have been carried out. Pressures were measured on both the exterior and interior for several parapet heights, h=0.46, 0.9, 1.8, 2.7 m, and building heights, H=4.6, 9.1, 18 m, for both a uniform perimetric parapet and an isolated parapet on one wall. These data were used to quantify the local (component and cladding) and structural wind loads on the parapets. It was found that the worst structural load coefficients over all wind angles are approximately constant with h and H because of opposing trends of the pressures on the interior and exterior parapet surfaces. That is, the loads increase on the interior surface with H (as they do for roof loads), while decreasing on the exterior surface. The current structural load coefficients prescribed by the ASCE 7-02 capture this well for the building configurations considered. However, the suction component and cladding loads on the interior surface of isolated parapets are not well captured by the code.  相似文献

This article describes preliminary experiments to test the concept of scanning electron microscope (SEM) using a round magnetic beam separator to perform energy spectroscopy. Two experiments with an add-on attachment inside a conventional SEM were performed, one to estimate the sector image aberrations and the other to capture an energy spectrum of scattered electrons. The experiments show that the sector image aberrations lie well below 2 nm and that it is possible to capture the energy spectrum of secondary electrons.  相似文献
