The direct conversion of solar energy into fuels or feedstock is an attractive approach to address increasing demand of renewable energy sources. Photocatalytic systems relying on the direct photoexcitation of metals have been explored to this end, a strategy that exploits the decay of plasmonic resonances into hot carriers. An efficient hot carrier generation and collection requires, ideally, their generation to be enclosed within few tens of nanometers at the metal interface, but it is challenging to achieve this across the broadband solar spectrum. Here the authors demonstrate a new photocatalyst for hydrogen evolution based on metal epsilon‐near‐zero metamaterials. The authors have designed these to achieve broadband strong light confinement at the metal interface across the entire solar spectrum. Using electron energy loss spectroscopy, the authors prove that hot carriers are generated in a broadband fashion within 10 nm in this system. The resulting photocatalyst achieves a hydrogen production rate of 9.5 µmol h?1 cm?2 that exceeds, by a factor of 3.2, that of the best previously reported plasmonic‐based photocatalysts for the dissociation of H2 with 50 h stable operation.  相似文献

Zirconium oxide regulates RNA interfering of osteoblast-like cells   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Zirconium oxide (ZO) has outstanding mechanical properties, high biocompatibility and high resistance to scratching. Since dental implants are made with ZO and the genetic effects of ZO on osteoblasts are incompletely understood, we used microRNA microarray techniques to investigate the translation process in osteoblasts exposed to ZO. By using miRNA microarrays containing 329 probes designed from Human miRNA sequences, we identified in osteoblast-like cells line (MG-63) cultured on ZO disks several miRNA whose expression was significantly modified. The most notable regulated genes acting on osteoblasts are: NOG, SHOX, IGF1, BMP1 and FGFR1. The data reported below represent the first study on translation regulation in osteoblasts exposed to zirconium and one in which the effect of ZO on bone formation has been detected.  相似文献

We demonstrate that a semiconducting polymer [poly(2-methoxy-5-propyloxy sulfonate phenylene vinylene), MPS-PPV] can be encapsulated inside recombinant, self-assembling protein nanocapsules called "vaults". Polymer incorporation into these nanosized protein cages, found naturally at approximately 10,000 copies per human cell, was confirmed by fluorescence spectroscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering. Although vault cellular functions and gating mechanisms remain unknown, their large internal volume and natural prevalence within the human body suggests they could be used as carriers for therapeutics and medical imaging reagents. This study provides the groundwork for the use of vaults in encapsulation and delivery applications.  相似文献

Patulin is a toxic secondary metabolite of a number of fungal species belonging to the genera Penicillum and Aspergillus. It has been mainly isolated from apples and apple products contaminated with the common storage-rot fungus of apples, Penicillum expansum, but it has also been extracted from rotten fruits, moldy feeds, and stored cheese. Human exposure to patulin can lead to serious health problems, and according to a long-term investigation in rats, the World Health Organization has set a tolerable weekly intake of 7 ppb body weight. The content of patulin in foods has been restricted to 50 ppb in many countries. Conventional analytical detection methods involve chromatographic analyses, such as HPLC, GC, and, more recently, techniques such as LC/MS and GC/MS. However, extensive protocols of sample cleanup are required prior to the analysis, and to accomplish it, expensive analytical instrumentation is necessary. An immunochemical analytical method, based on highly specific antigen-antibody interactions, would be desirable, offering several advantages compared to conventional techniques, i.e., low cost per sample, high selectivity, high sensitivity, and high throughput. In this paper, the synthesis of two new derivatives of patulin is described, along with their conjugation to the bovine serum albumin for the production of polyclonal antibodies. Finally, a fluorescence competitive immunoassay was developed for the on-line detection of patulin.  相似文献

Hybrid compounds consisting of an organic sensitizer and a polyoxometalate unit were synthesized following two strategies: a) the covalent functionalization of lacunary decatungstosilicate with organosilylfulleropyrrolidines; b) the charge interaction between cationic sensitizers and the polyoxoanions, yielding electrostatic aggregates. These hybrid complexes effect catalytic photooxygenation in water under heterogeneous conditions, 25 °C and O2 (1 atm), using visible light irradiation (λ>375 nm). As representative target substrates, phenol (4 mM) is oxidized in 150 min with a COD loss up to 30% (TON up to 50), while L ‐methionine methyl ester (15 mM) undergoes selective photooxygenation to the corresponding sulfoxide in 90 min (TON up to 200). The photocatalyst stability has been evaluated on the basis of system recycling along three oxidation runs. The inhibition exerted by sodium azide, a typical 1O2 quencher, suggests the occurrence of a Type II photooxidation mechanism.  相似文献

The reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer polymerization was used to prepare microarray slides grafted with polymer brushes for DNA-based applications. Block copolymer brushes of N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), poly(DMA-b-GMA) were prepared by extending living poly(dimethylacrylamide) chains. The functional surface was used as a substrate for oligonucleotide hybridization experiments. The results were compared to those provided by glass slides coated by a self-assembled monolayer made of (3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane. Surfaces coated with block polymer brushes bearing oxirane groups are more efficient as substrates for oligonucleotide hybridization than surfaces coated with nonpolymeric self-assembled monolayers containing the same functional group. The high probe grafting density and hybridization efficiency achieved with this polymeric coating reveal the importance of the block architecture to ensure good accessibility of the immobilized probe. The new surface was characterized by static angle measurements and diffuse reflectance FT-IR spectroscopy on a silica model system.  相似文献
