Iron oxide nanoparticles are formidable multifunctional systems capable of contrast enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging, guidance under remote fields, heat generation, and biodegradation. Yet, this potential is underutilized in that each function manifests at different nanoparticle sizes. Here, sub‐micrometer discoidal magnetic nanoconstructs are realized by confining 5 nm ultra‐small super‐paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (USPIOs) within two different mesoporous structures, made out of silicon and polymers. These nanoconstructs exhibit transversal relaxivities up to ≈10 times (r 2 ≈ 835 mm ?1 s?1) higher than conventional USPIOs and, under external magnetic fields, collectively cooperate to amplify tumor accumulation. The boost in r 2 relaxivity arises from the formation of mesoscopic USPIO clusters within the porous matrix, inducing a local reduction in water molecule mobility as demonstrated via molecular dynamics simulations. The cooperative accumulation under static magnetic field derives from the large amount of iron that can be loaded per nanoconstuct (up to ≈65 fg) and the consequential generation of significant inter‐particle magnetic dipole interactions. In tumor bearing mice, the silicon‐based nanoconstructs provide MRI contrast enhancement at much smaller doses of iron (≈0.5 mg of Fe kg?1 animal) as compared to current practice.  相似文献

We present an original detailed theoretical modeling of guided-wave noncollinear acoustooptic (AO) interaction produced by a multifrequency surface acoustic wave (SAW) in planar guided-wave structures. The modeling of the multifrequency AO interaction is based on a modified version of the coupled-mode theory. The first- and third-order diffraction efficiency and optimum dynamic range of the Bragg cell have been calculated as a function of acoustic power, acoustic radiofrequency, and optical waveguide parameters in Y-cut Ti:LiNbO3 planar waveguides. Polynomial approximations, describing the first and third order diffraction efficiency versus normalized acoustic power in the cases of two- and three-frequency interactions, are derived and presented for the first time for arbitrarily large RF signals  相似文献

The microstructural evolution of nanocrystalline ceria produced by sol–gel has been analyzed as a function of the calcination temperature employing a novel nondestructive method based on the modeling of the whole X-ray diffraction pattern. The results have been thoroughly verified by transmission electron microscopy. A variation both in the average size and in the distribution of the crystalline domains is evidenced. In addition, information concerning lattice defects can be inferred on a larger scale than that normally accessible by microscopy techniques.  相似文献

Systems for electromagnetic imaging at microwave frequencies are of great interest in many applications ranging from industrial diagnostics to subsurface inspection and medical imaging. The development of efficient inverse-scattering-based procedures represents a critical aspect, due to the difficulties inherent in this nonlinear ill-posed problem. In this paper, some of the recently proposed inversion methods (both nonlinear and linearized) for two-dimensional imaging are reviewed. Concerning industrial imaging, nondestructive evaluation and medical diagnostic, tomographic approaches are presented, whereas for the inspection of buried inhomogeneities, tomographic and borehole-configurations are considered. In particular, deterministic and stochastic approaches are discussed and the most specific features of these approaches are pointed out. Finally, the issue of data collection, which is another key point of microwave imaging system, is briefly addressed, with particular emphasis on approaches based on the modulated scattering technique, which is a promising technique strongly related to electromagnetic scattering concepts.  相似文献

Natural antimicrobial compounds to control the quality decay of a fresh fish burger were studied. In particular, thymol, lemon extract and grape fruit seed extract (GFSE), at 20, 40 and 80 ppm, have been tested against the main spoilage microorganisms inoculated in fish burgers stored at 5 °C. The evolution of mesophilic and psychrotrophic bacteria was also monitored. The sensorial quality decay was determined by means of a panel test, which assessed odour, colour, texture, drip loss and general appearance during the storage period. Results show that all the active substances efficiently slowed down the growth of the spoilage microorganisms. In particular, GFSE was the most efficient against Photobacterium phosphoreum , Shewanella putrefaciens and mesophilic bacteria, whereas thymol was the most efficient against both psychrotrophic bacteria and Pseudomonas fluorescens . Microbial growth was the factor limiting fresh fish burger acceptability.  相似文献

1. The effects of oxatriazole-type (GEA 3162 and GEA 5624) nitric oxide (NO) donors on mitogenesis and proliferation were studied in vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) culture. The effects of the GEA-compounds were compared with well-known NO-donors 3-morpholinosydnonimine (SIN-1) and S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP). 2. All NO-donors released NO and increased the production of cyclic GMP concentration-dependently. The production of cyclic GMP was inhibited by the guanylate cyclase inhibitor, ODQ (1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one). 3. The NO-donors inhibited basal and serum-induced DNA synthesis concentration-dependently. The GEA-compounds were needed in concentrations 10 times lower than SIN-1 and SNAP. GEA 3162, SIN-1 and SNAP were also able to inhibit serum-induced cell proliferation. GEA 5624 was ineffective. The antimitogenic effect of NO-donors was not reduced by inhibiting the guanylate cyclase. 4. These results suggest that NO inhibits serum-induced DNA synthesis and proliferation of VSMC by a cyclic GMP-independent mechanism. The oxatriazole-type NO-donor GEA 3162 was found to be a more potent inhibitor of mitogenesis and cell proliferation than SIN-1 and SNAP.  相似文献

Amorphous fluorinated optical polymers, characterized by high transparency in the visible and near infrared spectra, high glass transition temperature and very good resistance to chemical environment, have been developed by co-polymerisation of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and 2,2,4-trifluoro-5-trifluoromethoxy-1,3-dioxole (TTD). In this work we study at molecular level the effect of the introduction of the bulky TTD unit in a perfluoroalkyl chain.In particular the effect on the molecular structure and chain flexibility is investigated and spectroscopic markers correlated to chemical and structural defects are identified. The study includes a thorough experimental spectroscopic analysis (infrared and Raman spectra) of several different copolymer samples and a modelling based on Density Functional Theory calculations and semiempirical calculations on suitable model molecules.  相似文献

The Authors report their experience in the treatment of ventral hernias using a Marlex mesh moulded in an original way with a technique partially derived from plastic surgery. In this study Amplified Fragments Length Polymorphisms (AFLPs) analysis was applied on DNA extracted from different monovarietal olive oils. The aim was to study how the length of storage after milling of the oil can affect the use of DNA as an analyte for molecular traceability. Results, all assessed by statistical analyses, showed that the authentication of olive oil with molecular methods should be performed within a month from olive oil production. After this period, a significant decrease of quality of DNA extracted from olive oil was observed, with a consequent loss of information, that can affect the reliability of the results.  相似文献
