The aims of this work were to evaluate the physical and antimicrobial properties of biodegradable films composed of mixtures of κ-carrageenan (κ-car) and locust bean gum (LBG) when organically modified clay Cloisite 30B (C30B) was dispersed in the biopolymer matrix. Film-forming solutions were prepared by adding C30B (ranging from 0 to 16 wt.%) into the κ-car/LBG solution (40/60 wt.%) with 0.3 % (w/v) of glycerol. Barrier properties (water vapour permeability, P vapour; CO2 and O2 permeabilities), mechanical properties (tensile strength, TS, and elongation-at-break, EB) and thermal stability of the resulting films were determined and related with the incorporation of C30B. Also, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was done in order to investigate the effect of C30B in film structure. Antimicrobial effects of these films against Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica were also evaluated. The increase of clay concentration causes a decrease of P vapour (from 5.34?×?10?11 to 3.19?×?10?11 g (m s?Pa)?1) and an increase of the CO2 permeability (from 2.26?×?10?14 to 2.91?×?10?14 g (m s?Pa)?1) and did not changed significantly the O2 permeability for films with 0 and 16 wt.% C30B, respectively. Films with 16 wt.% clay exhibited the highest values of TS (33.82 MPa) and EB (29.82 %). XRD patterns of the films indicated that a degree of exfoliation is attained depending on clay concentration. κ-car/LBG–C30B films exhibited an inhibitory effect only against L. monocytogenes. κ-car/LBG–C30B composite films are a promising alternative to synthetic films in order to improve the shelf life and safety of food products.  相似文献

The use of edible antimicrobial films has been reported as a means to improve food shelf life through gradual releasing of antimicrobial compounds on the food surface. This work reports the study on the incorporation of 2 antimicrobial agents, nisin (N), and/or glucose oxidase (GO), into the matrix of Whey protein isolate (WPI) films at pH 5.5 and 8.5. The antimicrobial activity of the edible films was evaluated against Listeria innocua (ATCC 33090), Brochothrix thermosphacta (NCIB10018), Escherichia coli (JMP101), and Enterococcus faecalis (MXVK22). In addition, the antimicrobial activity was related to the hydrophobicity and water solubility of the WPI films. The greatest antibacterial activity was observed in WPI films containing only GO. The combined addition of N and GO resulted in films with lower antimicrobial activity than films with N or GO alone. In most cases, a pH effect was observed as greater antimicrobial response at pH 5.5 as well as higher film matrix hydrophobicity. WPI films supplemented with GO can be used in coating systems suitable for food preservation.  相似文献

In this work we have critically revised and updated the literature dealing with wine quality control based on protein or peptide mass spectrometry-based fingerprinting. A number of pitfalls in the experimental design of most work dealing with this subject are highlighted along with recommendations on how to circumvent them. As a general trend, the conclusions reported to date in the literature of the topic are inconclusive mainly due to the (i) low number of representative samples, (ii) lack of basic analytical concepts, and (iii) lack of adequate statistical and software tools. In addition, we have critically revised the sample treatments commonly used to separate proteins from wines, emphasizing that the majority of literature is devoted to white wines, probably because of difficulties in isolating the protein content in red wines.  相似文献

Water mist-based fire-extinguishing systems are gaining acceptance for the protection of ship machinery spaces. The use of simulation tools presents a great potential for taking a performance-based design (PBD) approach to these fire scenarios. The Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) is the most frequently used and validated fire modeling software; however, studies of low-pressure water mist fire suppression modeling in ship engine rooms are rare. This paper contributes to the current literature by using the FDS to model a series of fire suppression scenarios defined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Circulars, including spray and pool fires with heptane and diesel oil, as well as exposed and obstructed fires. The simulation results are compared to data from full-scale tests conducted at recognized fire testing laboratories. Furthermore, an analysis of both the experimental and model uncertainties is carried out to assess the simulations performance. In general, a good agreement in compartment temperature evolution and fire extinguishing time is found for the modeled fire scenarios. The results support the application of FDS in a PBD approach for the design of water mist fire extinguishing systems for machinery spaces in ships. In this way, designers and engineers could model different machinery volumes and nozzles spacings that differ from those prescribed for a one story square engine room of the IMO, and, thus, predict the evolution of temperatures and extinguishing times for get the authorities approval.  相似文献

The urinary excretions of adrenaline and noradrenaline were determined before and after a moderate thermal trauma in rats with intact adrenal glands, after adrenal demedullation and after adrenalectomy with grafting of adrenal cortical tissue. The basal excretions of adrenaline were 0.28 mug, 0.06 mug and 0.04 mug/24 h/rat, respectively. In rats with intact adrenal glands the adrenaline excretion was greatly increased already in the first 24 hours after the burn. In both the demedullated and adrenalectomized rats only a very slight increase of the adrenaline excretion was noted, but this may indicate a slight reaction of the extramedullary chromaffin tissue to the trauma. The basal excretion of noradrenaline was not affected either by demedullation or adrenalectomy, indicating that it consisted mainly in noradrenaline released from peripheral sympathetic nerve endings. From the second day after the burn there was an increase in the noradrenaline excretion, of equal magnitude in all experimental groups, indicating an increased liberation of peripheral adrenergic transmittor substances.  相似文献

Outbreaks of locusts cause enormous economic losses to agriculture in many countries. To develop environmentally friendly strategies for their control, much research has been focused on the factors that influence locust biology, particularly infochemical‐mediated interactions. We present herein the identification and synthesis of both Z and E isomers of phytal (3,7,11,15‐tetramethylhexadec‐2‐enal, 1 ), which are involved in chemical communication and behaviour of the Moroccan locust, Dociostaurus maroccanus, a serious agricultural pest. The compound was identified by comparison of its chromatographic and spectrometric features and microchemical reactions with those of a synthetic sample. The natural compound was shown to have the R,R configuration by chiral HPLC analysis, and its structure is unique as an insect pheromone component. Both isomers of phytal are produced by sexually mature adult males and elicit electroantennographic responses in antennae of both sexes. In two‐choice olfactometer bioassays, males and females significantly preferred the stream enriched with racemic phytal to the control. In contrast, hydrogenated phytal was behaviourally inert. Both isomers of phytal are specific to D. maroccanus as they are absent in the closely related, habitat‐sharing species Dociostaurus jagoi and Calliptamus wattenwylianus. Legs and wings are the main release sites of the compound: approximately 90 % of that emitted by living individuals. In biosynthetic studies, phytal appears to proceed from oxidation of phytol ( 2 ) after injection of deuterated phytol into the abdomen of the insect or after administration in the diet. Our results demonstrate that phytal is a candidate sex pheromone component of the Moroccan locust; it is produced by mature males, and might be eavesdropped upon by conspecific males.  相似文献

The cleavage of alkenes to the corresponding carbonyl products is a widely employed method in organic synthesis, especially to introduce oxygen functionalities into molecules, remove protecting groups and tailor large molecules. Chemical methods available for alkene cleavage include, for instance, ozonolysis, several metal‐based variants (KMnO4, OsO4, RuO4, etc.), electrochemical alternatives, singlet oxygen, hypervalent iodine and organic molecules in combination with oxygen. Furthermore, several enzymatic methods for alkene cleavage have been described to establish safe, mild and selective oxidation methods. Various heme and non‐heme iron‐dependent enzymes catalyse the alkene cleavage at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure in an aqueous buffer, showing good chemo‐ and regioselectivities in selected cases. Quite recently some Cu‐, Mn‐ and Ni‐dependent enzymes have been identified for this reaction. This review gives an overview of the different chemical and enzymatic methods available for the cleavage of alkenes.

Herein, we report an efficient catalytic system for the enantioselective addition of alkyl Grignard reagents to a broad range of aliphatic aldehydes with good yields and enantioselectivities. Remarkably, the challenging methylmagnesium bromide (MeMgBr) can also be added to a variety of aliphatic aldehydes, providing versatile chiral methyl carbinol units with unprecedented yields and enantioselectivities in a simple one‐pot procedure under mild conditions.  相似文献
