Many factors can influence the shelf-life product, such as pH, water activity, nutrient levels available oxygen, etc. Variations in food pH could occur due to microorganism growth and chemical reactions that may impact flavour, consistency and shelf-life. The objective of this paper was to obtain and characterize the fast pH-colourimetric indicator device, applying a simple manufacturing technique, using food grade and biodegradable materials. The intelligent film was based on natural compounds as chitosan and anthocyanin (pH-colourimetric indicator). Chitosan intelligent films (C-ATH, 2.0 g/100 g) were obtained incorporating anthocyanin (1.0 g/100 g) in matrix films. Initially, a dark violet colour was observed in chitosan films dried. When immersed in different pH buffers, the colour range of the films varied from pink (in acid pH) to bluish-green (in neutral pH) and to violet (in basic pH). The water solubility and water vapour transmission rate of C-ATH were decreased to 60% and 48%, respectively, as compared to control film (CF, without indicator). The mechanical properties such as tensile strength and rigidity were maintained, and the elongation at break was reduced to 47% compared to CF. The advantages of this system were the simple manufacturing process, biodegradability and usage of natural and safe compounds.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In spite of the importance and especially high energy demands of grain dryers, relatively few studies have been carried out to discover the optimal conditions for their operation. High performance operation can only be achieved if an adequate operating strategy is developed. For its implementation, a reliable control structure is required, and some of the limitations of the conventional control strategies normally used in dryers are observed. These strategies are SISO; the control normally used presents low performance and the disturbance is characterized by several amplitudes and frequencies. A possible way to minimize this difficulty consists of defining the multilevel structure such that each level acts at a given amplitude and frequency. In order to implement this multilevel structure, an optimization problem was developed to function as a supervisory control and a predictive algorithm (DMC) was used for servo or regulatory control. The proposed DMC algorithm presented satisfactory results for the load rejection and set-point variation, only when a small disturbance was applied. For a larger disturbance an optimization procedure was necessary. The routine efficiently maintained the optimal operational conditions of the dryer and could be used in the supervisory control of the system.  相似文献

This work presents an extension of a previous proposed procedure [Costa, C.B.B., Wolf Maciel, M.R., Maciel Filho, R., 2005. Factorial design technique applied to genetic algorithm parameters in a batch cooling crystallization optimization. Computers and Chemical Engineering 29, 2229-2241] to be adopted as a prior analysis in optimization problems to be solved using genetic algorithm (GA). Chemical engineering problems are commonly highly non-linear and possess a large number of variables, sometimes with significant interactions among them. Such characteristics make the optimization problems really difficult to be solved by deterministic methods. GA is an increasing tool for solving this sort of problems. However, no systematic approach to establish the best set of GA parameters for any problem was found in the literature and a relatively easy to use and meaningful approach is proposed and proved to be of general application. The proposed approach consists of applying factorial design, a well-established statistical technique to identify the most meaningful information about the influences of factors on a specific problem, as a support tool to identify the GA parameters with significant effect on the optimization problem. This approach is very useful in conducting further optimization works, since it discharges GA parameters that are not statistically significant for the evolutionary search for the optimum, saving time and computation burden in evolutionary optimization studies.  相似文献

Cement production gives rise to CO2 emissions generated by the calcination of CaCO3 and by the combustion of fossil fuels, being responsible for about 5% of the global CO2 emissions. These emissions can be substantially reduced if cement replacement materials are used. In this paper two residual ashes that can be used as mineral additions are considered: sugar cane bagasse ash and rice husk ash. A case study of the construction of a dam with a blended material composed by cement and these two ashes is presented, indicating the potentiality of its use for civil engineering applications. The analyses were performed using experimental and numerical tools developed on the basis of a thermo-chemo-mechanical model. This model considers the coupling, within the theory of thermodynamics, of the several phenomena that intervene in the hydration process, namely, exothermicity, thermo-activation, chemo-plasticity, evolution of thermal and mechanical properties with the hydration reaction, which includes creep and relaxation.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The use of the volatile salt ammonium carbamate in protein downstream processing has recently been proposed. The main advantage of using volatile salts is that they can be removed from precipitates and liquid effluents through pressure reduction or temperature increase. Although previous studies showed that ammonium carbamate is efficient as a precipitant agent, there was evidence of denaturation in some enzymes. In this work, the effect of ammonium carbamate on the stability of five enzymes was evaluated. RESULTS: Activity assays showed that α‐amylase (1,4‐α–D‐glucan glucanohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.1), lysozyme (1,4‐β‐N‐acetylmuramoylhydrolase, EC 3.2.1.17) and lipase (triacyl glycerol acyl hydrolase, EC 3.1.1.3) did not undergo activity loss in ammonium carbamate solutions with concentrations from 1.0 to 5.0 mol kg?1, whereas cellulase complex (1,4‐(1,3:14)‐β‐D‐glucan 4‐glucano‐hydrolase, EC 3.2.1.4) and peroxidase (hydrogen peroxide oxidoreductase, EC 1.11.1.7) showed an average activity loss of 55% and 44%, respectively. Precipitation assays did not show enzyme denaturation or phase separation for α‐amylase and lipase, while celullase and peroxidase precipitated with some activity reduction. Analysis of similar experiments with ammonium and sodium sulfate did not affect the activity of enzymes. CONCLUSION: Celullase and peroxidase were denatured by ammonium carbamate. While more systematic studies are not available, care must be taken in designing a protein precipitation with this salt. The results suggest that the generally accepted idea that salts that denature proteins tend to solubilize them does not hold for ammonium carbamate. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of QMiX, SmearClear, and 17% EDTA for the debris and smear layer removal from the root canal and its effects on the push‐out bond strength of an epoxy‐based sealer by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Forty extracted human canines (n = 10) were assigned to the following final rinse protocols: G1‐distilled water (control), G2–17% EDTA, G3‐SmearClear, and G4‐QMiX. The specimens were submitted to a SEM analysis to evaluate the presence of debris and smear layer, respectively, in the apical or cervical segments. In sequence, forty extracted human maxillary canines with the root canals instrumented were divided into four groups (n = 10) similar to the SEM analysis study. After the filling with AH Plus, the roots were transversally sectioned to obtain dentinal slices. The specimens were submitted to a push‐out bond strength test using an electromechanical testing machine. The statistical analysis for the SEM and push‐out bond strength studies were performed using the Kruskal–Wallis and Dunn tests (α = 5%). There was no difference among the G2, G3, and G4 efficacy in removing the debris and smear layer (P > 0.05). The efficacy of these groups was superior to the control group. The push‐out bond strength values of G2, G3, and G4 were superior to the control group. The ability to remove the debris and smear layer by SmearClear and QMiX was as effective as the 17% EDTA. The work analyzes the performance of mortars prepared with two metakaolin samples and ground calcined-clay brick. Complete stress–strain deformation response under compression, porosity, sorptivity, pore size distribution and resistance to penetration of chloride ions have been determined for mortars with up to 40% cement replacement. Continuum damage mechanics analyzes using a scalar model allowed to extract information on the mode of deformation leading to failure of the mortars during compressive loading. It is shown that not only the ultimate strength, but also the pre-peak deformation response is influenced by calcined-clay addition. The ultimate strength of the mortar mixture depended on the type of calcined-clay added, but in all cases mortars with addition were marginally more compliant during the elastic deformation stage and more brittle as fracture approached.  相似文献

A nickel catalyst (5.75 wt.%) supported on gamma-alumina was evaluated through autothermal reforming of methane (ATR). The reforming process was pointed to hydrogen production, following thermodynamic and stoichiometric predictions. The catalyst was characterised by several methods including atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), B.E.T.-N2, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and thermal analyses (thermogravimetry, TG; derivate thermogravimetry, DTG; and differential thermal analysis, DTA). Experimental evaluations in a fixed-bed reactor (1023–1123 K, 1.00 bar, 150–400 cm3/min feed) presented methane conversions in the range of 40–65%. The effluent mixtures provided hydrogen yields in the range of 78–84%, carbon monoxide 3–14%, and carbon dioxide 5–18%. High molar H2/CO ratios, ranging from 8 to 90, were obtained. Operating autothermal conditions (excess of steam, 1023–1123 K, 1.00 bar) provided low coke formation and high hydrogen selectivity (81%) for methane reforming.  相似文献
