The coatings of optical fibers are generally characterized by a multi-layer coating structure. In this work, the mathematical modeling of two immiscible non-Newtonian fluids for optical fiber coating inside a straight annular die is developed in the form of a nonlinear differential equation with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. Two non-Newtonian fluids, namely power law and Phan-Thien–Tanner fluids, are used in the primary and secondary coating dies, respectively. An exact solution is obtained for velocity fields and temperature distributions for the primary and secondary coating resins. The thickness of coated fiber optics is also calculated for both layers. The effect of different emerging parameters on the solution is discussed and sketched. 相似文献

In this study, we have proposed an artificial neural network (ANN) model to estimate and forecast the number of confirmed and recovered cases of COVID-19 in the upcoming days until September 17, 2020. The proposed model is based on the existing data (training data) published in the Saudi Arabia Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation—Demographics. The Prey-Predator algorithm is employed for the training. Multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN) is used in this study. To improve the performance of MLPNN, we determined the parameters of MLPNN using the prey-predator algorithm (PPA). The proposed model is called the MLPNN–PPA. The performance of the proposed model has been analyzed by the root mean squared error (RMSE) function, and correlation coefficient (R). Furthermore, we tested the proposed model using other existing data recorded in Saudi Arabia (testing data). It is demonstrated that the MLPNN-PPA model has the highest performance in predicting the number of infected and recovering in Saudi Arabia. The results reveal that the number of infected persons will increase in the coming days and become a minimum of 9789. The number of recoveries will be 2000 to 4000 per day. 相似文献

Human physiology normally contains pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms in the gastrointestinal flora. Disturbance of these microorganism balance results in the formation of infection. Extensive use of antibiotics for cure of these disturbances like Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection leads to patient discomfort and associated side-effects. There is a need to adopt adjunct or alternative approach in order to minimize such conditions. Probiotics is one of the potential therapies to cure gastrointestinal discomforts especially associated with H. pylori. It competes through non-immune and immune systems. This review article concludes that probiotics are used to eradicate the infection at increased rate, and decreased associated side-effects are caused by triple therapy. A proper evaluation of these probiotics is demanded before their use in future as a commercial product. Furthermore, their effect on immune system requires more research work so that their usage for other chronic disorders can also be considered. 相似文献

Hard-sphere molecular dynamics simulations of lid-driven microcavity gas flow with various subsonic speeds and lid temperatures are conducted. Simulations with faster and colder lids show streamlines of stronger primary vortices. Variations of mass and energy centers with respect to lid speed and temperature are examined. Center of energy is less sensitive to employed lid conditions than center of gravity is. Although moving lid imparts energy into fluid, due to change of impingement rates on the walls of fixed temperature, average energy within the cavity seems quite insensitive to the subsonic lid speed. Behavior of compressibility at both top corners is observed even at low Mach numbers widely considered within incompressible flow region. While high Knudsen number causes considerable property slips near the lid, two-dimensional pressure, density, and temperature plots of excellent quality are generated. Results are promising in use of molecular dynamics simulations for compressible vortex flow analyses while providing insights for understanding microfluidics and nanofluidics in context of molecular mass, momentum and heat transfer in microscale and nanoscale systems. 相似文献

In this study, performance of cryogenically treated M35 high speed steel (HSS) twist drills in drilling of AISI 304 and 316 stainless steels was evaluated in terms of thrust force, surface roughness, tool wear, tool life, and chip formation. To present the differences in tool performance between untreated and treated drills, and machinability between AISI 304 SS and AISI 316 SS, a number of experiments were performed at different combinations of cutting speed, and feed rate. As the results of the conducted experiments, the treated drills showed better performance than untreated drills in terms of thrust force, surface roughness, and tool wear and tool life for both types of stainless steels. Tool lives of treated HSS drills in drilling of AISI 304 SS and AISI 316 SS improved 32% and 14%, respectively, when compared with untreated drills. Experimental results also showed that machinability of AISI 304 SS was harder than the machinability of AISI 316 SS. 相似文献

A recent gold nanotechnology‐driven approach opens up a new possibility for the destruction of cancer cells through photothermal therapy. Ultimately, photothermal therapy may enter into clinical therapy and, as a result, there is an urgent need for techniques to monitor the tumor response to therapy. Driven by this need, a nanoparticle surface‐energy‐transfer (NSET) approach to monitor the photothermal therapy process by measuring a simple fluorescence intensity change is reported. The fluorescence intensity change is due to the light‐controlled photothermal release of single‐stranded DNA/RNA via dehybridization during the therapy process. Time‐dependent results show that just by measuring the fluorescence intensity change, the photothermal therapy response during the therapy process can be monitored. The possible mechanism and operating principle of the NSET assay are discussed. Ultimately, this NSET assay could have enormous potential applications in rapid, on‐site monitoring of the photothermal therapy process, which is critical to providing effective treatment of cancer and multidrug‐resistant bacterial infections. 相似文献

Wireless multimedia studies have revealed that forward error correction (FEC) on corrupted packets yields better bandwidth utilization and lower delay than retransmissions. To facilitate FEC-based recovery, corrupted packets should not be dropped so that maximum number of packets is relayed to a wireless receiver's FEC decoder. Previous studies proposed to mitigate wireless packet drops by a partial checksum that ignored payload errors. Such schemes require modifications to both transmitters and receivers, and incur packet-losses due to header errors. In this paper, we introduce a receiver-based scheme which uses the history of active multimedia sessions to detect transmitted values of corrupted packet headers, thereby improving wireless multimedia throughput. Header detection is posed as the decision-theoretic problem of multihypothesis detection of known parameters in noise. Performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated using trace-driven video simulations on an 802.11b local area network. With an ever-increasing use of fiber-optics as transmission media, there is a growing interest in high speed local area networks (LAN). In this paper we consider a slotted unidirectional bus LAN in which each station attempts to transmit into an empty slot persistently with a preassigned probability until success. Messages are assumed to have variable sizes and segmented into fixed size packets where each packet fits into one slot. Fair access can be achieved if access probabilities are assigned properly to all stations. Three assignments are considered: uniform, linearly decreasing, and exponentially decreasing probabilities. The average delay and queue size performance of the network is studied through computer simulation for every assignment. It has been shown that all these cases widely differ in their performances. The order of performance (from better to worse) in these cases is: optimal, constant, linear, and exponential. 相似文献
