The growth of vapor bubbles is studied numerically in a microchannel with asymmetric surface features. The channel design is chosen such that evaporation results in vapor bubbles growing only along a predefined direction. The principle relies on capillary forces and the pinning/depinning of three-phase contact lines at sharp edges of the wall geometry. Analytical expressions are derived predicting the direction of bubble growth and allowing to assess the robustness of a specific channel geometry in terms of supporting unidirectional bubble growth. From these expressions design rules for microchannels incorporating geometrical parameters and the wall contact angle of the liquid phase can be derived. The numerical calculations are performed based on an extended Volume-of-Fluid method accounting for phase change. The results confirm that under specific conditions, vapor bubbles only expand in one direction, thereby corroborating the analytical model. The presented concept may find applications in designing microchannels for stabilized flow boiling or micropumps/-actuators relying on phase change.  相似文献

The state-of-the-art modelling of solar collectors as described in the European Standard EN 12975-2 is based on equations describing the thermal behaviour of the collectors by characterising the physical phenomena, e.g. transmission of irradiance through transparent covers, absorption of irradiance by the absorber, temperature dependent heat losses and others. This approach leads to so called collector parameters that describe these phenomena, e.g. the zero-loss collector efficiency η0 or the heat loss coefficients a1 and a2.Although the state-of-the-art approach in collector modelling and testing fits most of the collector types very well there are some collector designs (e.g. “Sydney” tubes using heat pipes and “water-in-glass” collectors) which cannot be modelled with the same accuracy than conventional collectors like flat plate or standard evacuated tubular collectors. The artificial neural network (ANN) approach could be an appropriate alternative to overcome this drawback.To compare the different approaches of modelling investigations for a conventional flat plate collector and an evacuated “Sydney” tubular collector have been carried out based on performance measurements according to the European Standard EN 12975-2. The investigations include the parameter identification (training), the comparisons between measured and modelled collector output and the simulated yearly collector yield for a solar domestic hot water system for both models.The obtained results show better agreement between measured and calculated collector output for the artificial neural network approach compared with the state-of-the-art modelling. The investigations also show that for the ANN approach special test sequences have to be designed and that the determination of the ANN that fits the thermal performance of the collector in the best way depends significantly on the expertise of the user.Nevertheless artificial neural networks have the potential to become an interesting alternative to the state-of-the-art collector models used today.  相似文献

Salmonella serotype Kentucky emerged since 2002 and now ranks among the top ten serovars isolated from humans in Europe, and 8th to 10th in Switzerland. A total of 106 strains isolated from different patients from 2004 through 2009 in Switzerland were further characterized by (i) assessing phenotypic antibiotic resistance profiles using the disk diffusion method and (ii) by genotyping using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) after macrorestriction with XbaI in order to evaluate strain relationships and trends.In Switzerland, there is evidence for an outbreak in 2006 as the annual incidence almost doubled. A total of 30 strains (28%) were resistant or showed intermediate resistance to one to three antimicrobials and 48 strains (45%) displayed resistance to more than three antibiotics. We found a high prevalence (67%) of nalidixic acid resistance, and 58% were resistant to ciprofloxacin. One strain was a producer of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL). PFGE discriminated four clusters (similarity coefficient cut off at 80%).The resistance situation among the strains isolated from 2004 to 2009 in Switzerland is discussed and shown to coincide with findings in other European countries. Based on genetic subtyping, a so far undetected outbreak is likely to have occurred in Switzerland in 2006. Finally, our data identified travelling to Northern Africa as a risk factor for S. The deposition of copper selenide(CuSe)thin films was carried out using liquid phase chemical bath deposition process at the optimized growth parameters as:60℃deposition temperature,90 minutes deposition time,pH equal to 10.5±0.1 and 72±2 r/min speed of mechanical rotation.The as-grown deposits exhibited excellent uniformity and physical adherency with the substrate surface and are smooth and diffusely reflecting with colour changing from yellowish orange to dark chocolate during deposition.The layer is of the order of 300 nm thick.The EDS analysis technique gave film composition to be nearly stoichiometric(Cu=47.89%,Se=52.11%).An X-ray diffraction analysis showed CuSe to be polycrystalline hexagonal with a good match of d-values and intensities of reflections.The crystallite size is in the nanorange(50-60 nm).The as-deposited CuSe exhibited a high coefficient of absorption(α=105cm-1)with a direct optical band gap of 1.81 eV.Compared to other chalcogenides,CuSe films exhibit low resistance;room temperature electrical resistivity being 1.55×103?cm.The electrical conductivity decreased with increase in temperature up to 473 K;showing totally unusual behaviour from that of the semiconducting property.The thermo probe measurements showed n-type conduction of the samples.  相似文献

Many diseases can overrule natural pH regulatory mechanisms and alter the extracellular pH (pHe). A non-invasive method that resolves pHe in vivo with high spatial and temporal resolution could therefore improve diagnosis and monitoring of diseases, contributing to the concept of precision medicine. During the last decades, several techniques have been proposed to image pHe non-invasively. The majority of these methods rely on magnetic resonance because of its good spatial resolution, high penetration depth, non-ionizing radiation and excellent complimentary soft tissue contrast. Dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) is an emerging concept to enhance nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signals by more than four orders of magnitude, making it possible to observe in vivo metabolic processes in real-time. Here, we summarize and review recent developments in pHe imaging techniques based on hyperpolarization methods and give an overview of recently discovered hyperpolarized pH sensor molecules that have been applied in vitro and in vivo.  相似文献

This study explores the relationship between self‐employment and income growth, employment growth, and change in poverty in metro and non‐metro areas in the United States using county‐level panel data. We investigate the impact of the relative size of the self‐employment sector measured by the share of non‐farm proprietorships (NFPs) in total full and part‐time employment on three key economic performance indicators. We first estimate an income growth model to analyse the effects of self‐employment on income growth. Then we investigate the independent effects of self‐employment on employment growth and changes in family poverty rates. Our results indicate that higher self‐employment rates are associated with statistically significant increases over time in income and employment growth, and reductions in poverty rates in non‐metro counties. We find similar effects on metro county income and employment, but not on poverty dynamics.  相似文献

We report on the synthesis of SnO2 and CuO nanowires and their application as gas sensing components. The fabrication of SnO2 and CuO single nanowire devices by optical and electron beam lithography is described, and sensing performance to the toxic gas carbon monoxide is demonstrated. We briefly present the development of CMOS fabricated micro-hotplates as platforms for gas sensors and show our approach for nanowire implementation. Finally, we demonstrate a fully CMOS integrated CuO multi nanowire device and present our roadmap for a fully integrated multi-parameter smart sensor device which could be implemented as safety feature in smart phones.  相似文献

There is currently intensive public discussion of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) and other electric powertrains, such as battery electric vehicles (BEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and hybridized combustion engine vehicles (HEV). In this context, the German government has set the target of one million electric vehicles on the road by 2020, and six million by 2030 [1]. The goal of this paper is to identify the possible market share of electric vehicles in the German new car fleet in three scenarios in the timeframe from 2010 to 2030. The VECTOR21 vehicle technology scenario model is used to model the fleet in three scenarios. In the reference scenario with business-as-usual parameters, 189,000 electric vehicles will be sold in Germany by 2020. Scenario two with purchase price incentives from 5000 EUR, high oil prices, and low prices for hydrogen and electricity will result in 727,000 vehicles. In the last scenario with substantial OEM mark-up reductions and external conditions as in the business-as-usual scenario, 3.28 million vehicles will be sold.  相似文献

In a novel pilot plant scale process, lactulose was synthesized enzymatically, operating a maximum batch volume of 170 L. The test product was subjected to a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot feeding study. Participants consumed a milk serum drink for 14 days, equalling a daily intake of about 3 g d−1 galactosyl-fructoses. Additionally, the effect of industrially produced lactulose and a placebo drink without lactulose was determined. So far, clinical studies on the prebiotic action of lactulose only focussed on the effects of industrially generated lactulose. The intake of enzymatically synthesized lactulose significantly increased (p = 0.001) faecal bifidobacterial counts, while there was no difference with industrially produced lactulose. Analysis of the compounds showed that the drink with enzymatically synthesized lactulose contained an additional disaccharide, β-1,1-galactosyl-fructose. Presumably, this sugar has a bifidogenic effect and may represent a novel prebiotic.  相似文献
