LP-BM5 virus causes changes in lactic dehydrogenase and oxygen radical production in splenocytes of C57BL/6J mice

The LP-BM5 murine leukemia virus causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in C57BL/6J mice (MAIDS), similar to that of AIDS in humans. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of LP-BM5 viral infection on cellular activation and membrane integrity of splenocytes. Oxidative burst in splenocytes in response to exposure to PMA (20 microg/ml) was significantly higher (p<.02) in infected than in control mice at two weeks post-infection using luminol-enhanced chemiluminescence. By 13 weeks post-infection superoxide anion production in infected mice was significantly lower when compared to controls coinciding with decreased proliferative response to mitogens. The extent of cell membrane damage as indicated by lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) activity in serum was significantly higher in infected than in control mice (p<.001). The results from this study suggests that LP-BM5 virus causes an initial stimulation of cellular activity followed by a decreased cell activation characterized by decreased proliferation of splenocytes and decreased oxygen radical production. Decreased cell membrane integrity indicated by increased LDH activity may partly be responsible for these changes.

本文介绍了一种实用的数据库设计方法，它以实体分析法为理论基础，通过对我们日常使用的表进行聚集和归类，完成数据库的逻辑设计，所设计的数据库满足ＢＮＯＦ范式。同时该方法可操作性较强，本文还介绍了自行设计的ＥＲＣＭ数据库辅助设计工具。     

A common precursor to neurotensin and LANT6 and its differential processing in chicken tissues

Antisera towards neurotensin (NT) and the structurally related peptide, LANT6, were used to characterize immunoreactive peptides and proteins in extracts of chicken tissues. A 17 kDa protein was identified by Western blotting as a potential precursor to NT and LANT6. However, the posttranslational processing of this common precursor appeared to be tissue specific, giving rise to disproportionate amounts of NT and LANT6, along with varying expression of a large molecular LANT6 (M(r), 15 kDa). The intestinal cells containing immunoreactive NT, LANT6, and large molecular LANT6 behaved similarly during fractionation by size and density. These activities also banded together in particles resembling vesicles during centrifugation of isotonic homogenates of tissue. These results suggest that chicken NT and LANT6 are biosynthesized as parts of the same precursor, the processing of which can give rise to a variety of products stored within secretory vesicles.     

A neural network that predicts psychiatric length of stay

One hundred and twelve bilateral thyroidectomies for solitary thyroid nodules with suspected malignancy were performed. The incidence of malignancy in the 112 primary nodules was 42%. Twenty-nine of the 112 contralateral lobes (26%) contained malignancy, which was unsuspected in 80%. Of these 29, 20 were foci of papillary cancer < or = 5 mm and 9 were larger papillary tumors or follicular carcinoma. We analyzed these 112 patients to determine whether there was a simple method to identify those patients at risk for contralateral, unsuspected malignancy. With use of the AMES clinical staging retrospectively, 70 of the 112 patients were classified as having low-stage disease. Fifty percent (35) had cancers on the primary side and 27% (19) on the contralateral side. Of these 19 contralateral cancers, 14 were papillary cancers < or = 5 mm, 4 were papillary cancer > 5 mm and one was a 1.5 cm follicular carcinoma, a similar distribution as in the whole group of 112. When the AMES analysis then excluded those thought to be at risk for multicentricity or papillary carcinoma and examined female patients only with nonpapillary frozen sections, nonpapillary aspiration cytological results, and no history of radiation exposure, no further reduction in the proportion of contralateral cancers (7 of 26, 27%) was found. Fifty-five of the 112 patients underwent preoperative ultrasound scans. In those cases in whom the contralateral lobe had no intraoperative palpable or preoperative sonographic mass, 5 of 20 still had contralateral cancers, but all were papillary < or = 5 mm.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)     

Determination of instantaneous corrosion rates and runoff rates of copper from naturally patinated copper during continuous rain events

Instantaneous corrosion rates of naturally patinated copper of varying age (16 months, 138 and 145 years) have been determined during continuous rain events in the laboratory with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy using a two-electrode cell. The two-electrode cell was found to yield the same information in bulk rainwater as a conventional three-electrode cell.Relatively constant corrosion rates, between 0.2 and 0.6 μm/y, were determined for samples having a two-layer structure with an inner brownish layer of cuprous oxide and an outer greenish layer of basic copper salts (138, 145 years). Samples with cuprous oxide as the dominating phase of the patina (16 months) showed higher and somewhat increasing corrosion rates during a rain event (from 0.6 to 1.2 μm/y). During a continuous rain event, corrosion rates were found to be approximately 10 (brownish patina) and 25 times (greenish patina) lower than corresponding instantaneous runoff rates. The first flush phenomena of the runoff process, with an increased concentration during first flush and a relatively constant concentration during steady state, was indirectly seen as an increase in solution conductivity during the first rain volume followed by relative constant value. The contribution of the concentration in the first flush to the total annual runoff rate was significant for panels having a greenish layer (138, 145 years) whereas it was negligible for panels having a brownish layer (16 months).

静压下ZnS：Te中Te等电子陷阱的发光

研究了4块ZnS：Te薄膜样品(Te组分从0．5％到3．1％)的光致发光谱在常压下的温度特性．对于Te组分较小的2块样品观察到2个发光峰，分别来自Te1和Te2等电子陷阱；而对Te组分较大的2块样品则只观察到1个来自Te2等电子陷阱的发光．我们还研究了这些发光峰在低温1．5K下的流体静压压力行为．观察到与Te1有关的发光峰压力系数比ZnS带边的要大很多，而与Te2有关的发光峰压力系数则比带边小．根据Koster-Slater模型，价带态密度半宽随压力的增加是Te1中心有较大压力系数的主要原因，而Te1和Te2中心的不同压力行为则是由于压力对两者缺陷势增强的不同效果引起的．     

国产ME型活性染料配伍性的探讨

测定ME型活性染料不同浓度单色及拼混的比移值，对其在轧染中出现的色光波动进行分析，有利于染色质量的提高。
