Abstract

The autochrome was the first successful commercial colour process. It was invented by Louis and Auguste Lumiere at the tum of the century, patented in 1903 and produced until the 1950s on a sheet film called ‘Filmcolor’. Many articles were published between 1903 when the autochrome process was unveiled to the public, and 1935 when the decline of the screen process began and the first colour films with chromogenic development appeared. There are detailed deseriptions of the plate's range of use, its characteristies and processing, but these publications are very sketchy as to the nature of the components. The most detailed documents, on which this article is based, are the ‘report on the titles and work of Louis Lumiere’ published in 1918, the factory notebooks written by Louis Lumiere or M. Perrigot,1 and the archives of the Lumiere firm, which are now scattered in various locations.  相似文献

Composites made of ceramic for both fibers and matrix are aimed at being used in aerospace applications, which means being submitted to mechanical stresses at high temperatures in oxidizing and corrosive environments for long durations. The oxidation/corrosion resistance of these materials is linked to their ability to self-heal by creating an oxide phase which can restrict the access of the oxygen into the bulk of the material. During thermomechanical cycles, the distribution of O2 inside the material as well as the distribution and the state of the liquid oxides will undergo some modifications. A specific test has been conceived and performed in order to evidence the influence of the viscosity of this oxide on the mechanical properties of the material. Results have shown that the stiffening which is observed seems to be proportional to the increase in the viscosity of the sealing oxide, in conjunction with the decrease in the temperature.  相似文献

Since the early stages of thermal spray, it has been recognized that the powder composition, size distribution, shape, mass density, mechanical resistance, components distribution for composite particles play a key role in coating microstructure and thermo mechanical properties. The principal characteristics of particles are strongly linked to the manufacturing process. Coatings also depend on the process used to spray particles and spray parameters. Many papers have been devoted to the relationships existing between coating properties and structures at different scales and manufacturing processes. In many conventional spray conditions resulting in micrometric structures, among the different parameters, good powder flow ability, and dense particles are important features. Thermal plasma treatment, especially by RF plasma, of particles, prepared by different manufacturing processes, allows achieving such properties and it is now developed at an industrial scale. Advantages and drawbacks of this process will be discussed. Another point, which will be approached, is the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis, depending very strongly upon the starting composite particle manufacturing. However, as everybody knows, “small is beautiful” and nano- or finely structured coatings are now extensively studied with spraying of: (i) very complex alloys containing multiple elements which exhibit a glass forming capability when cooled-down, their under-cooling temperature being below the glass transition temperature; (ii) conventional micrometer-sized particles (in the 30-90 μm range) made of agglomerated nanometer-sized particles; (iii) sub-micrometer- or nanometer-sized particles via a suspension in which also, instead of particles, stable sol of nanometer-sized particles can be introduced; and (iv) spray solutions of final material precursor. These different processes using plasma, HVOF or sometimes flame and also cold-gas spray will be discussed together with the production of nanometer-sized particles via the chemical reaction method or by a special type of milling: the cryogenic milling process often referred to as “cryomilling.”  相似文献

To find new ways for reducing the potential of palm oil to form 3‐monochloropropane‐1,2‐diol (3‐MCPD) and glycidyl esters during refining it is helpful to know more about the influence of different precursors like diacylglycerols (DAGs) and monoacylglycerols (MAGs), lecithin, and chlorine containing compounds. After adding increasing amounts of the different precursors to a model oil obtained by removal of polar compounds from crude palm oil and heating the mixture under standardized conditions to 240°C for 2 h the contents of 3‐MCPD and glycidyl esters were analyzed according to the standard procedure of DGF C‐VI 18 (10). DAGs and MAGs were found to increase the potential of palm oil to form 3‐MCPD and glycidyl esters, but refined lecithin showed no influence. Sodium chloride as well as tetra‐n‐butylammoniumchloride (TBAC) led to higher contents of the esters. Whereas the addition of TBAC raised the amount of glycidyl esters as well as 3‐MCPD esters, sodium chloride largely raised the amount of 3‐MCPD esters. An addition of 5 mmol of sodium carbonate/kg model oil spiked with sodium chloride reduced the amount of glycidyl esters almost completely; the 3‐MCPD esters were reduced by 50%. About 1 mmol sodium hydrogen carbonate/kg oil reduced both 3‐MCPD and glycidyl esters almost completely. Practical applications : For the mitigation of the formation of 3‐MCPD esters and related compounds in refined edible oils, it is helpful to know more about the effect of different possible precursors. Using a broader data basis, it is possible to adopt the oil processing but especially the choice of the raw material to the demands of the market for lower contents of the esters in the refined products.  相似文献

This paper deals with the scheduling of operations on a multiprocessor machine in the context of shoe manufacturing. Multiprocessor machines are composed of several parallel processors. Unlike parallel machines, the entire machine needs to be stopped whenever a single processor needs a setup. Our industrial partner, one of the major winter-shoe manufacturers in Canada, offers a relatively large variety of models. For each of these models, all the sizes proposed by this manufacturer must be produced in various quantities. Our objective is to schedule the production of the required sizes on the machine's different processors in order to minimize the global makespan, which includes both the production time and the set up time. We first present a mathematical formulation of the problem. Then, we introduce a decomposition procedure based on the mathematical model, and we demonstrate that this procedure is very efficient for small- and medium-size instances. We also propose two construction heuristics and two improvement heuristics for larger problems, and we report the results of our extensive computational experiments to demonstrate the quality of the proposed heuristics in terms of reducing production time and computational effort.  相似文献

A numerical model is developed to study mixed convection film boiling over a vertical flat plate. The integral form of conservation equations for each phase along with the appropriate interface conditions due to phase change is transformed into ordinary differential equation (ODE)-form. The length scale used in the model is based on Rayleigh–Taylor instability wave at the liquid–vapor interface. The heat transfer associated in the process is assessed and results are validated successfully for different available experimental results for natural convection and mixed convection film boiling. The mixed convection film boiling is characterized in terms of relevant nondimensional parameters for each phase.  相似文献

Conditions for the elaboration of nanostructured varistors by spark plasma sintering (SPS) are investigated, using 8‐nm zinc oxide nanoparticles synthesized following an organometallic approach. A binary system constituted of zinc oxide and bismuth oxide nanoparticles is used for this purpose. It is synthesized at room temperature in an organic solution through the hydrolysis of dicyclohexylzinc and bismuth acetate precursors. Sintering of this material is performed by SPS at various temperatures and dwell times. The determination of the microstructure and the chemical composition of the as‐prepared ceramics are based on scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray diffraction analysis. The nonlinear electrical characteristics are evidenced by current–voltage measurements. The breakdown voltage of these nanostructured varistors strongly depends on grain sizes. The results show that nanostructured varistors are obtained by SPS at sintering temperatures ranging from 550 to 600 °C.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Poly[(vinyl alcohol)‐co‐(vinyl acetate)] (PVA) copolymers obtained by partial hydrolysis of poly(vinyl acetate) are currently used as industrial stabilizers in the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). Their molecular characteristics, mainly the average degree of hydrolysis (DH ) and average degree of polymerization (DPw ), have a major influence on the monomer droplet size and the properties of the final poly(vinyl chloride) resin. RESULTS: The average droplet size and size distribution of chlorobutane/water emulsions, as a model system for VCM/water emulsions, were studied using acoustic attenuation spectroscopy on‐line with an agitated laboratory reactor. The emulsions were stabilized by PVA with DH values between 73 and 88 mol% and DPw values between 450 and 2500. The effects of agitation speed, stirring time and concentration of the PVA copolymers were investigated. An attempt was made to correlate the interfacial tension and the droplet size. CONCLUSION: On‐line acoustic spectroscopy appears to be a suitable technique for the real‐time control of the droplet size of monomer suspensions. The advantages and limitations of the technique are outlined. The validity and the application limits of the commonly cited correlation between the droplet size and the Weber number are established for polymeric surfactant‐stabilized emulsions.
