Reactive dyes remotion by porous TiO2-chitosan materials   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In this work, the aim was to evaluate the remotion (adsorption plus degradation) of two reactive dyes, Methylene Blue (MB) and Benzopurpurin (BP), from aqueous solutions by the utilization of TiO2-chitosan microporous materials. Two different TiO2-chitosan hybrid materials were synthesized: TiO2-Chit A with 280 mg chitosan/gTiO2 and TiO2-Chit B with 46.76 mg chitosan/g TiO2. Adsorption data obtained at different solution temperatures (25, 35, and 45 degrees C) revealed an irreversible adsorption that decrease with the increment of T. Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips isotherm equation were applied to the experimental data. The obtained parameters and correlation coefficient showed that the adsorption of both dyes on TiO2-Chit A at the three work temperatures was best predicted by the Langmuir isotherm, while Sips equation adjusted better to adsorption data on TiO2-Chit B. The adsorption enthalpy was relatively high and varied with T, indicating that interaction between adsorbent and adsorbate molecules was not only physical but chemical. There is a change in the adsorption heat capacity, (Delta(ads)C(p)<0), related with intense hydrophobic interactions. The kinetic adsorption data were processed by the application of Lagergren and Avrami models. It was found that adsorption of both dyes on both adsorbents under the operating conditions was best predicted by Avrami model. The variation of kinetic order, n, and k(av) with T are related to a pore followed by intra particle diffusion control of the adsorption rate. MB photodegradation on both TiO2-chitosan hybrid materials was of 91 (in A) and 41% (in B) and augmented with the chitosan content. For BP can be seen that the process in darkness resulted in a high remotion capacity than in UV light presence.  相似文献

Objective: Using a multivariate extension of the Baron and Kenny (1986) mediation framework, we examined the simultaneous effect of variables hypothesized to mediate the relationship between a motivationally tailored physical activity intervention, and 6-month physical activity behavior in 239 healthy, underactive adults (M age = 47.5; 82% women). Design: Participants were randomly assigned to (a) print-based feedback; (b) telephone-based feedback; or (c) contact control. Main Outcome Measures: Psychosocial variables, including self-efficacy, decisional balance, and processes of change. Results: All mediation criteria were satisfied for both intervention arms. A moderate indirect effect of print (0.39, 95% CI = 0.21, 0.57) was found due to increases in behavioral processes (0.54, 95% CI = 0.29, 0.80) being attenuated by decreases due to cognitive processes (-0.17, 95%CI = 0.31,-.03). A moderate indirect effect was observed for telephone (0.47, 95% CI = 0.28, 0.66), with increases due to behavioral processes (0.61, 95% CI = 0.34, 0.87) attenuated by decreases due to cognitive processes (0.15, 95% CI = -0.27, -0.02); self-efficacy and decisional balance mediational paths did not attain statistical significance. Conclusions: These findings highlight the importance of studies that deconstruct the theoretical components of interventions to determine which combination produces the greatest behavior changes at the lowest cost. We report the effect of chemical modification of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) on their activation of the human serum complement system, as well as the adsorption of human plasma proteins on MWNTs. Four different types of chemically-modified MWNTs were tested for complement activation via the classical and alternative pathways using haemolytic assays. Human plasma protein binding was also tested using an affinity chromatography technique based on carbon nanotube-Sepharose matrix. Covalent functionalization of MWNTs greatly altered the level of activation of the complement system via the classical pathway. For example, MWNTs functionalised with epsilon-caprolactam or L-alanine showed respectively >90% and >75% reduction in classical pathway activation compared with unmodified MWNTs. These results demonstrate for the first time that these types of chemical modification are able to alter considerably the levels of specific complement proteins bound by pristine MWNTs (used as a control experiment). The reduced levels of complement activation via the classical pathway, that are likely to increase biocompatibility, were directly correlated with the amount of C1q protein bound to chemically modified carbon nanotubes. An inverse correlation was also observed between the amount of complement factor H bound to chemically modified MWNTs and the level of complement consumption via the alternative pathway. Binding of human plasma and serum proteins to pristine and modified MWNTs was highly selective. The chemical modifications studied generally increased nanotube dispersibility in aqueous media, but diminished protein adsorption.  相似文献

17β-Estradiol (E2) plays a pivotal role in the development and progression of breast cancer. As a result, blockade of the E2 signal through either tamoxifen (TAM) or aromatase inhibitors is an important therapeutic strategy to treat or prevent estrogen receptor (ER) positive breast cancer. However, resistance to TAM is the major obstacle in endocrine therapy. This resistance occurs either de novo or is acquired after an initial beneficial response. The underlying mechanisms for TAM resistance are probably multifactorial and remain largely unknown. Considering that breast cancer is a very heterogeneous disease and patients respond differently to treatment, the molecular analysis of TAM’s biological activity could provide the necessary framework to understand the complex effects of this drug in target cells. Moreover, this could explain, at least in part, the development of resistance and indicate an optimal therapeutic option. This review highlights the implications of TAM in breast cancer as well as the role of receptors/signal pathways recently suggested to be involved in the development of TAM resistance. G protein—coupled estrogen receptor, Androgen Receptor and Hedgehog signaling pathways are emerging as novel therapeutic targets and prognostic indicators for breast cancer, based on their ability to mediate estrogenic signaling in ERα-positive or -negative breast cancer.  相似文献

This study investigates the recovery of Zn(II) and Cr(III) from aqueous solutions based on solvent extraction with trioctylmethylammonium chloride [TOMA+][Cl-], commercialy named Aliquat 336. Single metal solutions and binary mixtures of both metals were considered. The effect of relevant operating conditions such as pH, contact time, initial concentration, O/A phase volumetric ratio, and temperature were evaluated. Additionally, loading capacity and stripping studies were performed. Results showed that [TOMA+][Cl?] is an effective extracting agent for Zn(II), reaching maximum removal capacity at pH 1.8 and demonstrating fast extraction kinetics. Extraction efficiencies above 99% were achieved at 0.5, 0.75, and 1.00 O/A volumetric phase ratios for 0.1 g/L initial Zn(II) concentration. At 1 g/L and 10 g/L concentration, for the same O/A ratios, approximately 88% of the initial Zn(II) was extracted. In contrast, it was found that negligible amounts of Cr(III) were transferred to the [TOMA+][Cl?] phase at the 1-5 pH range. Selectivity studies showed that Zn(II) removal is boosted in the presence of Cr(III), although no Cr(III) is extracted. [TOMA+][Cl?] exhibited a high Zn(II) storage capacity, since after 25 loading cycles with 1 g/L, the loading capacity reached approximately 13.5 g/L, and after five loading cycles with 5 g/L, the capacity reached 19.4 g/L. Stripping tests revealed that NaOH is an efficient agent for the removal of Zn(II) from the ionic liquids, reaching 98.5% removal after two cycles, whereas HNO3 is not a suitable agent, reaching less than 40% removal after three cycles. [TOMA+][Cl?] revealed high potential for separating Zn(II) from Cr(III).  相似文献

Exploratory data analysis was used to evaluate the influence of NaCl concentration on the relation between endogenous microbiota (mesophilic aerobic bacteria, psychrotrophic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae and Staphylococcus spp.) and biogenic amines (BAs) (histamine, tyramine, putrescine, cadaverine and spermidine) content in Brazilian dry-cured loin (BDL). Using hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), initial data analysis led to samples separation into a higher and a lower NaCl cluster. The analysis of variance showed that the microbial counts did not differ between the clusters (p > 0.05). However, the higher NaCl cluster showed a lower level of BAs. Further, principal component analysis (PCA) demonstrated a negative correlation between the microbial counts and BAs content in the lower NaCl cluster, thus indicating the possibility of the higher BA’s content in the lower NaCl cluster being a result of a stress–response mechanism. On the other hand, in the higher NaCl cluster, the salt concentration had an inhibitory property in BA’s formation except for histamine. The collective results point to a NaCl threshold to minimise the production of BAs in BDL. The findings of the present exploratory study highlight the possibility of intervention for BA minimization without the need for designed starter cultures or preservation treatments.  相似文献
