Periodic subgraph mining in dynamic networks 总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1
In systems of interacting entities such as social networks, interactions that occur regularly typically correspond to significant,
yet often infrequent and hard to detect, interaction patterns. To identify such regular behavior in streams of dynamic interaction
data, we propose a new mining problem of finding a minimal set of periodically recurring subgraphs to capture all periodic
behavior in a dynamic network. We analyze the computational complexity of the problem and show that it is polynomial, unlike
many related subgraph or itemset mining problems. We propose an efficient and scalable algorithm to mine all periodic subgraphs
in a dynamic network. The algorithm makes a single pass over the data and is also capable of accommodating imperfect periodicity.
We demonstrate the applicability of our approach on several real-world networks and extract interesting and insightful periodic
interaction patterns. We also show that periodic subgraphs can be an effective way to uncover and characterize the natural

This paper is about the influence of group inter-action processes known as group learning on the implementation of information technologies (IT). Aiming at a conceptualisation of the role of user interactions in IT implementation, a theoretical framework based on the experiential learning cycle is developed that includes five processes: collective acting, group reflecting, knowledge disseminating, sharing understanding and mutual adjustment. This theoretical framework is illustrated by the findings from three case studies. Analysis of 87 interviews revealed a unique function of group learning in IT implementation. It showed that group learning emerges immediately after a new IT is introduced to the targeted users and that it can take different standpoints (for or against adoption of the technology); it can also develop during the IT implementation and either progress or take a turn for the worse. The overall conclusion is that group learning is a ‘hidden’ mechanism that may speed up, slow down or even terminate an IT implementation project; and that therefore it is essential to appreciate its importance during IT projects and to steer it in a constructive direction. 相似文献

This paper focuses on Web accessibility. Relevant legislation and judicial decisions are reviewed, and prior empirical research is presented. This study presents the results from the Web accessibility analysis of the home pages of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. It found that twenty-nine percent of the home pages do not meet the requirements for Conformance Level A Web accessibility. Only one state meets Conformance Level AA standards, which are the minimum standards recommended for Web accessibility, and no state meets Conformance Level AAA standards. This paper also discusses how to address common accessibility problems.

Field-Testing of Methyl Salicylate for Recruitment and Retention of Beneficial Insects in Grapes and Hops 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Evidence for recruitment and retention of beneficial insects in grapes and hops using controlled-release dispensers of methyl salicylate (MeSA), a component of herbivore-induced volatile blends, is presented. In a replicated experiment conducted in a juice grape vineyard, sticky cards in blocks baited with MeSA captured significantly greater numbers of five species of predatory insects (Chrysopa nigricornis, Hemerobius sp., Deraeocoris brevis, Stethorus
punctum picipes, Orius tristicolor) than unbaited blocks. Four insect families (Syrphidae, Braconidae, Empididae, Sarcophagidae) were also significantly more abundant in the MeSA-baited blocks, as indicated by sticky card captures. Canopy shake samples and sticky card monitoring conducted in a MeSA-baited, unsprayed hop yard indicated development and maintenance of a beneficial arthropod population that was nearly four times greater than that present in an unbaited reference yard. Four times as many S. punctum picipes and six times as many O. tristicolor were sampled in the MeSA yard. Similar contrasts in abundance of these predators and others were apparent when compared with levels recorded in the yard in previous years. The large population of predatory insects in the MeSA-baited hop yard was associated with a dramatic reduction in spider mite numbers, the major arthropod pest of hops, in late June, and subeconomic populations were maintained for the rest of the season. The evidence presented here is highly suggestive that the use of controlled-release MeSA in a crop could increase recruitment and residency of populations of certain beneficial insects. Early-, middle-, and late-phase client emotional arousal, perceptual processing strategies, and working alliance were examined in relation to treatment outcome on 4 measures in 32 clients who previously underwent experiential therapy for depression. Hierarchical regression analyses relating these variables to outcome indicated that results varied depending on the therapeutic process, phase of treatment, and outcome measure involved in the analyses. Mid-therapy arousal predicted improvements in self-esteem, whereas mid- and late treatment perceptual processing predicted reductions in client interpersonal dysfunction. Emotional arousal in conjunction with perceptual processing during mid-therapy predicted reductions in depressive and psychopathological symptomatology better than either of these variables alone. There are countless beliefs about the power of music during driving. The last thing one would think about is: how safe is it to listen or sing to music? Unfortunately, collisions linked to music devices have been known for some time; adjusting the radio controls, swapping tape-cassettes and compact-discs, or searching through MP3 files, are all forms of distraction that can result in a near-crash or crash. While the decrement of vehicular performance can also occur from capacity interference to central attention, whether or not music listening is a contributing factor to distraction is relatively unknown. The current study explored the effects of driver-preferred music on driver behavior. 85 young-novice drivers completed six trips in an instrumented Learners Vehicle. The study found that all participants committed at-least 3 driver deficiencies; 27 needed a verbal warning/command and 17 required a steering or braking intervention to prevent an accident. While there were elevated positive moods and enjoyment for trips with driver-preferred music, this background also produced the most frequent severe driver miscalculations and inaccuracies, violations, and aggressive driving. However, trips with music structurally designed to generate moderate levels of perceptual complexity, improved driver behavior and increased driver safety. Poly(urethane urea) elastomers are versatile and can be tailored to exhibit a broad range of mechanical response under high strain rate deformation. In this work, we utilize coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations to elucidate the molecular mechanisms, particularly the effects of hard segment content, intermolecular interaction, and rigidity of the interface between the hard and soft segments on local morphology and rate-dependent stress-strain behavior in the ballistic regime. Simulation results qualitatively agree with available experimental data, where analysis of hard segment orientation during tensile and compression deformation and dynamic strain rate sensitivity was also performed. Further study of the intermolecular interaction on the stress-strain behavior reveals that it has a strong effect on strain hardening, particularly for a rigid interface, once the hard segment content reaches the percolation threshold. Simulation results also show that interface intermolecular interaction could become more dominant over interface rigidity in the initial stress-strain response, particularly below percolation. 相似文献

Light chain (AL) amyloidosis is a devastating disease characterized by amyloid deposits formed by immunoglobulin light chains. Current available treatments involve conventional chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplant. We have recently concluded a phase III trial comparing these two treatments. AL amyloidosis patients who achieve hematological complete response (CR) do not necessarily achieve organ response regardless of the treatment they received. In order to investigate the possible correlation between amyloid formation kinetics and organ response, we selected AL amyloidosis patients from the trial with kidney involvement and CR after treatment. Six patients were selected and their monoclonal immunoglobulin light chains were characterized. The proteins showed differences in their stability and their kinetics of amyloid formation. A correlation was detected at pH 7.4, showing that less stable proteins are more likely to form amyloid fibrils. AL-T03 is too unstable to form amyloid fibrils at pH 7.4. This protein was found in the only patient in the study that had organ response, suggesting that partially folded species are required for amyloid formation to occur in AL amyloidosis. 相似文献

Ground beetles (Carabidae) are recognized for their diverse, chemically-mediated defensive behaviors. Produced using a pair of pygidial glands, over 250 chemical constituents have been characterized across the family thus far, many of which are considered allomones. Over the past century, our knowledge of Carabidae exocrine chemistry has increased substantially, yet the role of these defensive compounds in mediating behavior other than repelling predators is largely unknown. It is also unclear whether non-defensive compounds produced by ground beetles mediate conspecific and heterospecific interactions, such as sex-aggregation pheromones or kairomones, respectively. Here we review the current state of non-exocrine Carabidae semiochemistry and behavioral research, discuss the importance of semiochemical research including but not limited to allomones, and describe next-generation methods for elucidating the underlying genetics and evolution of chemically-mediated behavior. 相似文献
