Twenty-four 12-week-old female turkeys divided into four equal groups were fed a basal diet (CONT) or basal diet supplemented with 300 mg α-tocopheryl acetate/kg (TOC), or 5 g rosemary/kg (ROS5), or 10 g rosemary/kg (ROS10), for 4 weeks. Following slaughter, fillets from breast were stored at 4 °C in the dark for 12 days, and lipid oxidation was assessed on the basis of the malondialdehyde formed, whereas microbial growth on the basis of total viable counts (TVC), lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Enterobacteriaceae (ENB) and psychrotrophic (PSY) bacteria. Results showed that incorporation of dried rosemary in turkey diets delayed lipid oxidation in raw breast meat during refrigerated storage. Dietary rosemary at the level of 1 g/100 g was significantly (P<0.05) more effective in delaying lipid oxidation compared to 0.5 g/100 g but inferior to the dietary supplementation of 300 mg α-tocopheryl acetate/kg. TVC, LAB, ENB and PSY bacterial counts were all significantly increased (P<0.05) in breast samples of all groups throughout the refrigerated storage. The TOC and CONT groups presented TVC, LAB, ENB and PSY counts that did not differ (P>0.05) among each other, during the whole storage period. However, the rosemary-supplemented groups presented bacterial counts that were significantly lower (P<0.05) than the CONT and TOC groups, at day 2 of storage period and thereafter. During this period, the ROS5 group presented TVC, LAB, ENB and PSY counts that were significantly higher (P<0.05) than the ROS10 group.  相似文献

Wireless capsule endoscopy is a revolutionary technology that allows physicians to examine the digestive tract of a human body in the minimum invasive way. Physicians can detect diseases such as blood-based abnormalities, polyps, ulcers, and Crohn's disease. Although this technology is really a marvel of our modern times, currently it suffers from two serious drawbacks: 1) frame rate is low (3 frames/s) and 2) no 3-D representation of the objects is captured from the camera of the capsule. In this paper we offer solutions (methodologies) that deal with each of the above issues improving the current technology without forcing hardware upgrades. These methodologies work synergistically to create smooth and visually friendly interpolated images from consecutive frames, while preserving the structure of the observed objects. They also extract and represent the texture of the surface of the digestive tract in 3-D. Thus the purpose of our methodology is not to reduce the time that the gastroenterologists need to spend to examine the video. On the contrary, the purpose is to enhance the video and therefore improve the viewing of the digestive tract leading to a more qualitative and efficient examination. The proposed work introduces 3-D capsule endoscopy textured results that have been welcomed by Digestive Specialists, Inc., Dayton, OH. Pancreatic Cancer (PC) is recognized as a highly thrombogenic tumor; thus, low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) such as tinzaparin is routinely used for PC patients. On the basis of combinatorial therapy approaches to treat highly malignant and refractory cancers such as PC, we hypothesized that tinzaparin can augment the effectiveness of traditional chemotherapeutic drugs and induce efficient antitumor activity. PANC-1 and MIAPaCa-2 were incubated alone or in combination with tinzaparin, nab-paclitaxel and gemcitabine. In vivo evaluation of these compounds was performed in a NOD/SCID mouse using a model injected with PANC-1. Tinzaparin enhances the anti-tumor effects of nab-paclitaxel and gemcitabine in mtKRAS PC cell lines via apoptosis in in vitro experiments. The triple combination power acts through the induction of apoptosis, reduction of the proliferative potential and angiogenesis; hence, contributing to a decrease in tumor volume observed in vivo. The triple regimen provided an extra 24.3% tumor reduction compared to the double combination (gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel). Combinatorial strategies can create novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of patients with PC, achieving a better clinical outcome and prolonged survival. Further prospective randomized research is needed and the investigation of various concentrations of tinzaparin above 150 UI/Kg, would potentially provide a valuable synergistic effect to the conventional therapeutic compounds.  相似文献

Polyphosphorylated and perphosphorylated hexopyranose monosaccharides and disaccharides were synthesized from parent or partially protected carbohydrates as potential allosteric effectors of hemoglobin. A study toward the construction of seven- and eight-membered cyclic pyrophosphates was also performed on the sugars which had the proper orientation, protection, and number of phosphates. All final compounds were tested for their efficiency on oxygen release from human hemoglobin. Several compounds presented higher potency than myo-inositol hexakisphosphate, which is the most efficient of the known allosteric effectors of hemoglobin. Structure-activity relationships were analyzed. The affinity and efficiency depend on the number of phosphates attached to the carbohydrate skeleton and are related primarily to the number of negative charges present. Other effects operate, but play a lesser role.  相似文献

Alterations in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) subclass distribution, as well as in the activities of HDL-associated enzymes, have been associated with increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. HDL subclass distribution and the activities of HDL-associated enzymes remain unknown in prediabetic patients, a condition also associated with increased CVD risk. The aim of the present study was to assess any differences in HDL subclass distribution (using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) and in activities of HDL-associated enzymes between prediabetic (impaired fasting glucose, IFG, n = 80) and non-prediabetic subjects (n = 105). Subjects with prediabetes had significantly increased waist circumference, blood pressure and triacylglycerol (TAG) levels compared with subjects with fasting glucose levels <100 mg/dL (all p < 0.05). The proportion of small HDL3 over HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) was significantly increased in prediabetic subjects compared with their controls (p < 0.05). The activity of the anti-atherogenic HDL-associated lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (HDL-LpPLA2) was significantly lower in subjects with prediabetes (p < 0.05), whereas the activity of paraoxonase 1 (using both paraoxon and phenyl acetate as substrates) did not significantly differ between subjects with or without prediabetes. In a stepwise linear regression analysis, the proportion of small HDL3 over HDL-C concentration was independently associated with the presence of prediabetes and with total cholesterol and TAG concentration (positively), as well as with HDL-C levels (negatively). We also observed a trend of increased small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in prediabetic subjects compared with their controls. Subjects with IFG exhibit increased proportion of small HDL3 particles combined with decreased activity of the anti-atherogenic HDL-LpPLA2.  相似文献

Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites were prepared by melt compounding, following two different compatibilization strategies that involved non-covalent interactions between the matrix and the filler. The first approach involved grafting pyridine aromatic moieties on the maleated polyolefin backbone, which are able to interact by ππ stacking with the surface of the nanotubes. The second method implemented non-covalent/non-specific surface functionalization of the MWCNTs with a hyperbranched polyethylene (HBPE). The enhanced interfacial interactions established in the composites containing LLDPE functionalized with pyridine grafts improved the dispersion of the nanotubes within the polymer matrix. Dispersion was also favoured by higher matrix viscosity. Composites containing finely dispersed MWCNTs exhibited an increase in the rheological and electrical percolation thresholds, and a significant improvement in mechanical properties. On the contrary the composites based on the low viscosity matrix contained large amounts of aggregates, which promoted lower percolation thresholds. Manipulation of matrix viscosity and compatibilization resulted in composites with good mechanical properties, and low percolation thresholds.  相似文献

Academic and industrial research initiatives have sought to make fully autonomic networks a reality. Some of these initiatives pursued a holistic approach, while others focused on setting up functionalities for specific networking domains. These efforts did not succeed in being extensively deployed, because the goals of network operators were not satisfactorily met. These goals include unification of management operations, enablement of end‐to‐end management and enhancement of the overall system performance in a trusted way, while reducing management cost. In this paper, we analyse a set of existing autonomic management architectures and frameworks with respect to a selected set of criteria. We then identify missing parts and challenges and propose a framework to unify the most promising attributes towards a novel approach of realization of autonomic networking management. In many engineering applications, heat transfer enhancement techniques are of vital importance in order to ensure reliable thermal designs of convective heat transfer applications. This study examines experimentally the heat transfer characteristics on the base plate around various surface mounted obstacles. Local convection coefficients are evaluated in the vicinity of each individual protruding body with great spatial resolution using the transient liquid crystal technique. Five different obstacles of constant height-to-hydraulic diameter ratio (-1.3) are consid- ered. These include: a cylinder, a square, a triangle, a diamond and a vortex generator of delta wing shape design. The experiments were carried out over a range of freestream Reynolds numbers, based on the hydraulic diameter of each obstacle, varying from 4,000 to 13,000. The results indicate a negligible effect of the flow speed on the heat transfer topological structure and a considerable effect of the obstacle geometry on the level and distribution of heat transfer enhancement.  相似文献

Thymic Epithelial Neoplasms (TENs) represent the most common tumors of the thymus gland. Epigenetic alterations are generally involved in initiation and progression of various cancer entities. However, little is known about the role of epigenetic modifications in TENs. In order to identify relevant studies, a literature review was conducted using the MEDLINE and LIVIVO databases. The search terms thymoma, thymic carcinoma, thymic epithelial neoplasm, epigenetics, DNA methylation, HDAC and miRNA were employed and we were able to identify forty studies focused on TENs and published between 1997 and 2021. Aberrant epigenetic alterations seem to be involved in the tumorigenesis of thymomas and thymic carcinomas, with numerous studies reporting on non-coding RNA clusters and altered gene methylation as possible biomarkers in different types of TENs. Interestingly, Histone Deacetylase Inhibitors have shown potent antitumor effects in clinical trials, thus possibly representing effective epigenetic therapeutic agents in TENs. Additional studies in larger patient cohorts are, nevertheless, needed to verify the clinical utility and safety of novel epigenetic agents in the treatment of patients with TENs.  相似文献
