The fate of CO2 hydrate disposed of in the ocean is analyzed based on thermodynamic theory. It is found that CO2 hydrate and seawater form a stable system only when (a) the system pressure p and temperature T fall within the hydrate-formation region in the ocean (i.e. p > 4.5MPa and T < 283 K) and (b) seawater is saturated or supersaturated with respect to CO2. At ocean depths below 440 m, the pressure and temperature required for system stability are satisfied. However, since seawater is highly unsaturated with respect to CO2, the requirement for full thermodynamic stability cannot be met because the hydrate and seawater are not in chemical equilibrium and the chemical potential for CO2 in the hydrate is larger than that in seawater. Therefore, the hydrate is unstable and dissolves in seawater. Thus, CO2 hydrate disposed of in the ocean may not be a long-lived entity in the ocean as was predicted previously by many investigators. The results of our study have been confirmed by laboratory simulations.  相似文献

The structural changes in mechanically mixed metals of immiscible combinations of elements caused by bulk mechanical alloying (MA) through the use of high pressure torsion (HPT) were investigated in Ag–Ni and Nb–Zr systems. There was no alloying between Ag and Ni on atomic scale even after 100 rotations of HPT. On the other hand, the β-Zr phase started to appear after HPT 2 rotations in the Nb–Zr system, even though β-Zr is a high temperature phase. Further, Nb and Zr were completely mixed to form a bcc structured single phase after HPT 100 rotations. The sequence of alloying in the Nb–Zr system during HPT was discussed. These results clearly suggest that non-equilibrium phases can form in the Nb–Zr system by bulk MA by the use of HPT.  相似文献

Suppression of mitochondrial respiration and increased glycolysis are characteristic features of activated macrophages. We show here that antimycin A, a respiratory inhibitor, induced interleukin-1 synthesis and tumoricidal activity without inducing tumor necrosis factor or nitric oxide. The induction of tumoricidal activity was resistant to inhibitors of tyrosine-specific protein kinases and intracellular glycoprotein transport. The cognate interaction between macrophages and target cells was not a prerequisite for the tumoricidal activity. In contrast, lipopolysaccharide induced the production of interleukin-1, tumor necrosis factor and nitric oxide, the induction of tumoricidal activity being sensitive to genistein and brefeldin A. Antimycin A, like lipopolysaccharide, induced the release of a cytoplasmic enzyme and apoptosis of macrophages. Antimycin A showed anti-metastatic activity in vivo. These results suggest that the inhibition of oxidative respiration would induce apoptosis and the resultant release of soluble effector molecules of macrophages which inhibit tumor metastasis in vivo.  相似文献

Shiga toxins 1 (Stx1) and 2 (Stx2) are encoded by toxin-converting bacteriophages of Stx-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), and so far two Stx1- and one Stx2-converting phages have been isolated from two STEC strains (A. D. O'Brien, J. W. Newlands, S. F. Miller, R. K. Holmes, H. W. Smith, and S. B. Formal, Science 226:694-696, 1984). In this study, we isolated two Stx2-converting phages, designated Stx2Phi-I and Stx2Phi-II, from two clinical strains of STEC associated with the outbreaks in Japan in 1996 and found that Stx2Phi-I resembled 933W, the previously reported Stx2-converting phage, in its infective properties for E. coli K-12 strain C600 while Stx2Phi-II was distinct from them. The sizes of the plaques of Stx2Phi-I and Stx2Phi-II in C600 were different; the former was larger than the latter. The restriction maps of Stx2Phi-I and Stx2Phi-II were not identical; rather, Stx2Phi-II DNA was approximately 3 kb larger than Stx2Phi-I DNA. Furthermore, Stx2Phi-I and Stx2Phi-II showed different phage immunity, with Stx2Phi-I and 933W belonging to the same group. Infection of C600 by Stx2Phi-I or 933W was affected by environmental osmolarity differently from that by Stx2Phi-II. When C600 was grown under conditions of high osmolarity, the infectivity of Stx2Phi-I and 933W was greatly decreased compared with that of Stx2Phi-II. Examination of the plating efficiency of the three phages for the defined mutations in C600 revealed that the efficiency of Stx2Phi-I and 933W for the fadL mutant decreased to less than 10(-7) compared with that for C600 whereas the efficiency of Stx2Phi-II decreased to 0.1% of that for C600. In contrast, while the plating efficiency of Stx2Phi-II for the lamB mutant decreased to a low level (0.05% of that for C600), the efficiencies of Stx2Phi-I and 933W were not changed. This was confirmed by the phage neutralization experiments with isolated outer membrane fractions from C600, fadL mutant, or lamB mutant or the purified His6-tagged FadL and LamB proteins. Based on the data, we concluded that FadL acts as the receptor for Stx2Phi-I and Stx2Phi-II whereas LamB acts as the receptor only for Stx2Phi-II.  相似文献

Borosilicate glass powders containing Li2O over 3.3 wt% were densified by the addition of water under hydrothermal hot-pressing conditions at 25 MPa below 300° C. The initial shrinkage proceeded by a viscous flow mechanism. The glass powders with a high concentration of network-modifying oxides had high densification rates. At low temperature, the glass powders were gently densified after an induction period in which shrinkage was very slow. During the induction period, the glass powders reacted with water and lithium in the glass structure was dissolved in water.  相似文献

Formation of an amorphous Al2Si2O5 layer on a steel pipe surface, after granite–dry steam interaction in the presence of copper, has been determined by XRD analysis and SEM (with energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis). Kinetic data indicate high-protective properties of the Al2Si2O5 layer, which formed a three-dimension substrate ∼5 μm thick, after 100 h exposure.  相似文献

It is important to grasp the explosion characteristics of object gases: natural gas and methane, in order to evaluate the influence of a gas explosion accident in the HTTR hydrogen production system on the reactor. Thus, we carried out explosion experiments of the object gases in semi-open space, and verified a numerical analysis code for the simulation of the explosion accident. It was confirmed that NG–air mixture or methane-air mixture in semi-open space did not result in DDT although 10 g of C-4 explosive was used as an ignition source, and the numerical results agreed relatively with the experimental results. As a result, we could have the prospects for predicting the influence of the explosion accident on the reactor.  相似文献

A prospective study of activated protein C sensitivity, protein C, protein S, and other coagulation factors in 239 women during normal pregnancy was carried out. Protein C activity appeared unaffected by gestation, although an elevation of protein C activity was observed in the early puerperium. A fall in total and free protein S with increasing gestation was observed. Activated protein C sensitivity ratio (APC:SR) showed a progressive fall through pregnancy. This fall correlated with changes in factor VIIIc, factor Vc and protein S. 38% of subjects, with no evidence of Factor V Leiden or anticardiolipin antibodies, showed a low APC:SR (APC:SR <2.6) in the third trimester of pregnancy. Aside from a significant reduction in birth weight, no difference in pregnancy outcome was observed between these subjects and those with a normal APC:SR. Activated protein C sensitivity ratio, modified by pre-dilution of patient samples with factor V depleted plasma, showed no consistent trend with gestation.  相似文献
