Quercetin shows interesting pharmacological effects, but its use in topical applications is limited by its low skin permeability and solubility. In this work, the synthesis of highly lipophilic quercetin esters with oleic, linoleic and linolenic acid useful as topical quercetin prodrugs is reported. Partial OH esterification is advisable to maintain the antioxidant activity of these compounds; tetraesters and triesters can be achieved by modulating the reaction conditions utilized for the total esterification of quercetin. The chemical structures of the esters were proven by spectroscopic techniques; quantum chemical NMR calculation were mandatory to unequivocally assign the free position in triesters. Finally, the antioxidant activity of all the synthesized compounds was determined by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl method and by 2,2-azinobis(3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) assay. 相似文献

It has long been recognized that reliable, robust, and automated instrumentation for the measurement of soil moisture content can be extremely useful, if not essential, in hydrological, environmental, and agricultural applications. A number of automated techniques for point measurement of soil water content have been developed to operational level over the past few decades. While each of those techniques has been individually calibrated by the gravimetric method, typically under laboratory conditions, there have been few studies that made a direct comparison between the various techniques, particularly under field conditions. This paper compares ECH2O probes, EC-5 (both sensors based on capacitance measurements, developed by Decagon Devices) and time domain reflectometer sensors (CS616 Campbell Scientific Water Content Reflectometer), with gravimetric data and with each other, under field conditions. Data were collected during two field experiments characterized by different soils and a wide range of soil moistures, resulting from irrigation/drying cycle. Results show that all the tested probes give acceptable results after being calibrated in the field. The capacitive sensors can be used in each type of soil with the same calibration equation, independently from depth, with root mean square error (RMSE) ranging between 2.5 and 3.6%. The feasibility of utilizing CTAB–silica gelatin composite (C-SGC) to remove hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions under different conditions was investigated. Removal of chromate was assessed through evaluation of the adsorption kinetics of chromate ions on the composite under equilibrium conditions in the presence of sulfate ions and at a slightly acidic pH condition (pH 5.8). Adsorption competition tests in the presence of sulfate ions showed that Cr(VI) was still effectively adsorbed from aqueous solution regardless of the presence of the competing anions. In fact, the adsorption kinetics performed at different initial chromate concentrations were unaffected by the presence of 100 mg L?1 sulfate ions (pH 7.5). The equilibrium adsorption data were fitted by Freundlich adsorption isotherms which confirmed that the adsorption efficiency of chromium on the CTAB–silica gelatin composite was unchanged in the presence of sulfate ions. Further, the adsorption process was shown to be pH dependent and more efficient at slightly acidic pH (5.8). These findings demonstrated a high specificity of the CTAB–silica gelatin composite for chromium, and highlight the possibility of using this matrix for efficient removal of chromium from industrial wastewater without the need to eliminate contaminant sulfate ions. 相似文献

Social wasps encompass species displaying diverse social organization regarding colony cycle, nest foundation, caste differences (from none to significant dimorphism) and number of reproductive queens. Current phylogenetic data suggests that sociality occured independently in the subfamily Stenogastrinae and in the Polistinae+Vespinae clade. In most species, including those with the simplest social organization, colony reproduction is monopolised by a single or few females. Since their nest mates can also develop ovaries and lay eggs, dominant females must somehow inhibit them from reproducing. Physical interactions in the form of open aggression or, usually, ritualised dominance by the fertile females contribute to fertility inhibition in several species, but it is unlikely to function in large colonies. In the latter case, reproduction within the colony is likely to be regulated through pheromones. Relatively little is known about these semiochemicals. Studies on all the three social wasp subfamilies, revealed that cuticular hydrocarbon components differ in abundance between egg-laying and not egg-laying females and that their composition depends on fertility status. In several species, females have been reported to manifestly react towards females with activated ovaries, but there is little evidence to support the hypothesis that fertile individuals are either recognized through their CHC composition, or that over-represented CHC constituents can inhibit fertility. Since casein proteolysis has a critical role in defining the typical characteristics of Grana Padano cheese, we evaluated the hydrolysis of alphas-casein during the ripening process. Thanks to the high specificity of the anti-alphas((alphas1 + alphas2)-casein monoclonal antibody and amino acid sequence determination, it was possible to identify three main alphas-casein-derived polypeptides in cheese: alphaa, alphab, and alphac. Their production by the three enzymes most involved in cheese proteolysis (pepsin, chymosin, and plasmin) was evaluated by performing in vitro digestions. Data showed that alphaa was released in cheese mainly by the chymosin attack, while alphab and alphac were due to the action of plasmin. The contents of subunits I, II/III, and IV of cytochrome c oxidase and of subunits alpha, beta and gamma of FoF1 ATP synthase in inner mitochondrial membrane proteins purified from cerebral cortex of rat at 2, 6, 12, 18, 24, and 26 months of age were analyzed by western blot. Age-related changes in the content of subunits, either of mitochondrial or nuclear origin, were observed. All the cytochrome c oxidase (COX) subunits examined showed an age-related increase from 2-month-old rats up to 24 months with a decrease at the oldest age (26 months). The same pattern of age-dependent changes was observed for gamma ATP synthase, while the alpha and beta subunits increased progressively up to 26 months. 相似文献
