The experimental determination of dynamic mass transfer properties of porous materials such as eco-efficient clay plasters is greatly influenced by the convective conditions at the surface of the material during the test. The measurement of the intrinsic vapour permeability of highly porous materials has shown to present wide discrepancies when the surface film resistance is not known. Therefore, a proper assessment of the hygric properties of clay plasters requires the determination of such resistance to vapour flow. An adapted experimental procedure was used to determine intrinsic water vapour permeability taking into account the influence of the surface film resistance. The moisture buffering test was used to measure dynamic exchange behaviour. The results gave evidence on the thickness of the active layer in the material and the impact of surface resistance on the exchange behaviour. A 1D mass transfer model was used to verify the validity of corrected vapour permeability by the surface film resistance and discuss its nature and influence on dynamic results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Professionals involved in organizing and undertaking domestic works, such as extensions, maintenance and refurbishment, have an important role in influencing how homes are configured and how occupants live within them. Despite this, the professional identities of these actors, and their impact on domestic energy use, is often overlooked. In response, this paper argues that one useful way of examining their influence is to consider how professional identities shape everyday working practices in relation to clients. Data from two UK interview and observation studies are combined: one with heating installers and the other with architects. The data are analysed using concepts from Abbott’s ‘system of professions’ framework that focuses on how the routine working practices of professional groups are born of how they see themselves and the tasks for which they are responsible. This comparison provides insights into how these two groups manage their professional ‘jurisdictions’ during their client interactions and what this means for policy-makers and industry representatives hoping to influence their work in pursuit of less carbon-intensive living. It also points to the value of further in-depth studies that explore how the routine management of professional jurisdiction impacts upon domestic energy use in a range of contexts.  相似文献

Automatic tumor segmentation using knowledge-based techniques   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11  
A system that automatically segments and labels glioblastoma-multiforme tumors in magnetic resonance images (MRIs) of the human brain is presented. The MRIs consist of T1-weighted, proton density, and T2-weighted feature images and are processed by a system which integrates knowledge-based (KB) techniques with multispectral analysis. Initial segmentation is performed by an unsupervised clustering algorithm. The segmented image, along with cluster centers for each class are provided to a rule-based expert system which extracts the intracranial region. Multispectral histogram analysis separates suspected tumor from the rest of the intracranial region, with region analysis used in performing the final tumor labeling. This system has been trained on three volume data sets and tested on thirteen unseen volume data sets acquired from a single MRI system. The KB tumor segmentation was compared with supervised, radiologist-labeled “ground truth” tumor volumes and supervised K-nearest neighbors tumor segmentations. The results of this system generally correspond well to ground truth, both on a per slice basis and more importantly in tracking total tumor volume during treatment over time  相似文献

The absorption and emission properties of Yb3+-doped ZBLANP, BIGaZYT and QX/Yb phosphate glasses are studied to evaluate their potential for laser-induced fluorescent cooling or optical refrigeration. The efficiency of optical refrigeration increases with pump wavelength in the anti-Stokes region. The cooling efficiencies of the three glasses as a function of temperature are evaluated at the wavelength λp corresponding to the absorption coefficient of 10 -3 cm-1. For temperatures <110 K, the cooling efficiency of the BIGaZYT glass may be more than twice that of the ZBLANP  相似文献

We survey a number of applications of the wavelet transform in time series prediction. We show how multiresolution prediction can capture short-range and long-term dependencies with only a few parameters to be estimated. We then develop a new multiresolution methodology for combined noise filtering and prediction, based on an approach which is similar to the Kalman filter. Based on considerable experimental assessment, we demonstrate the powerfulness of this methodology.  相似文献

Gray and color image contrast enhancement by the curvelet transform   总被引:29,自引:0,他引:29  
We present a new method for contrast enhancement based on the curvelet transform. The curvelet transform represents edges better than wavelets, and is therefore well-suited for multiscale edge enhancement. We compare this approach with enhancement based on the wavelet transform, and the multiscale retinex. In a range of examples, we use edge detection and segmentation, among other processing applications, to provide for quantitative comparative evaluation. Our findings are that curvelet based enhancement out-performs other enhancement methods on noisy images, but on noiseless or near noiseless images curvelet based enhancement is not remarkably better than wavelet based enhancement.  相似文献

Seventy consecutive patients with infrainguinal bypass grafts entered a 1-year graft surveillance programme involving colour duplex scanning, direct graft insonation and computer-assisted impedance analysis. Graft patients with a positive duplex scan, high frequencies on graft insonation or an impedance value above 0.50 subsequently underwent arteriography. Sixteen patients were excluded before the initial surveillance visit. The 54 remaining patients with grafts (30 vein, 24 synthetic) underwent a total of 137 surveillance visits, with 21 grafts confirmed to be 'at risk'. The sensitivity of an impedance value above 0.55 in identifying these grafts was 86 per cent, rising to 95 per cent when combined with graft insonation. Duplex scanning did not identify any abnormalities in 11 grafts that were either shown by arteriography to be 'at risk' or occluded before arteriography. Impedance measurement and graft insonation are simple screening techniques with a high sensitivity (when combined), which identify 'at risk' infrainguinal grafts. Positive graft insonation or an impedance value over 0.55 will identify all 'at risk' vein grafts while minimizing the number of unnecessary arteriograms.  相似文献
