Pt-Re/Vulcan carbon powder nanocomposites have been prepared with total metal loadings of 18 wt.% and 40 wt.% using a new non-cluster (1:1)-PtRe bimetallic precursor as the source of metal. Pt-Re nanoparticles having an average diameter of ca. 6 nm and atomic stoichiometry near 1:1 are formed. TEM, on-particle HR-EDS, and powder XRD data are consistent with the formation of Pt-Re alloy nanoparticles having a hexagonal unit cell with cell constants of a = 2.77 A and c = 4.47 A. A nanocomposite prepared at higher total metal loading under more rigorous thermal treatment also contains Pt-Re alloy nanoparticles having a fcc unit cell structure (a = 3.95 A). The precise dependence of Pt-Re nanocrystal structure on the thermal history of the nanocomposite specimen has not been investigated in detail. While these Pt-Re/carbon nanocomposites are active as anode catalysts in operating direct methanol fuel cells, the measured performance is less than that of commercial Pt-Ru/carbon catalysts and has marginal practical importance.  相似文献

Consistent with a serotonergic-midbrain raphe model of tonic immobility, 4 experiments designed to evoke changes in serum tryptophan produced reliable effects on the duration of the response in a total of 114 Production Red chickens. Systemic injections of tryptophan, the dietary precursor of serotonin, led to a dose-dependent increase in immobility, with optimal effects observed within 30 min after injection. Dietary depletion of endogenous tryptophan attenuated the duration of immobility, and a diet completely free of tryptophan, but supplemented with niacin, practically abolished the reaction. Dietary replacement of tryptophan reinstated the response. In a 5th experiment with 20 Ss, tryptamine, an alternative metabolic by-product of tryptophan, had no effect on immobility. Acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) imaging is a novel imaging modality in which pulses from a diagnostic ultrasound scanner are used to displace tissue and track its motion. The region displaced has lateral and elevational dimensions of similar scale to the ultrasound beams used to track the motion. Therefore, there is a range of tissue displacements present within the tracking beam, leading to decorrelation of the echo signal. Expressions are derived for the expected value of the displacement estimate and the cross-correlation at the expected displacement. Numerical simulations confirm the analytical model.  相似文献

Patients in a low-income community health center with Type 2 diabetes (N = 81) taking a one-day education workshop as part of their diabetes medical management were randomly assigned either to education alone or to a combination of education and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Both groups were taught how to manage their diabetes, but those in the ACT condition also learned to apply acceptance and mindfulness skills to difficult diabetes-related thoughts and feelings. Compared with patients who received education alone, after 3 months those in the ACT condition were more likely to use these coping strategies, to report better diabetes self-care, and to have glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) values in the target range. Mediational analyses indicated that changes in acceptance coping and self-management behavior mediated the impact of treatment on changes in HbA1C. The World Wide Web is an increasingly important data source for business decision making; however, extracting information from the Web remains one of the challenging issues related to Web business intelligence applications. To use heterogeneous Web data for decision making, documents containing relevant data must be located, and the data of interest within the documents must be identified and extracted. Currently, most automatic information extraction systems can only cope with a limited set of document formats or do not adapt well to changes in document structure, as a result, many real-world data sources with complex document structures cannot be consistently interpreted using a single information extraction system. This paper presents an adaptive information extraction system prototype that combines multiple information extraction approaches to allow more accurate and resilient data extraction for a wide variety of Web sources. The Amorphic Web information extraction system prototype can locate data of interest based on domain knowledge or page structure, can automatically generate a wrapper for a data source, and can detect when the structure of a Web-based resource has changed and act on this to search the updated resource to locate the desired data. The prototype Amorphic information extraction system demonstrated improved information extraction accuracy for the four different extraction scenarios examined when compared with traditional data extraction approaches  相似文献

We address the problem of generating compact code from software pipelined loops. Although software pipelining is a powerful technique to extract fine-grain parallelism, it generates lifetime intervals spanning multiple loop iterations. These intervals require periodic register allocation (also called variable expansion), which in turn yields a code generation challenge. We are looking for the minimal unrolling factor enabling the periodic register allocation of software pipelined kernels. This challenge is generally addressed through one of: (1) hardware support in the form of rotating register files, which solve the unrolling problem but are expensive in hardware; (2) register renaming by inserting register moves, which increase the number of operations in the loop, and may damage the schedule of the software pipeline and reduce throughput; (3) post-pass loop unrolling that does not compromise throughput but often leads to impractical code growth. The latter approach relies on the proof that MAXLIVE registers (maximal number of values simultaneously alive) are sufficient for periodic register allocation (Eisenbeis et al. in PACT ’95: Proceedings of the IFIP WG10.3 working conference on Parallel Architectures and Compilation Techniques, pages 264–267, Manchester, UK, 1995; Hendren et al. in CC ’92: Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Compiler Construction, pages 176–191, London, UK, 1992). However, the best existing heuristic for controlling this code growth—modulo variable expansion (Lam in SIGPLAN Not 23(7):318–328, 1988)—may not apply the correct amount of loop unrolling to guarantee that MAXLIVE registers are enough, which may result in register spills Eisenbeis et al. in PACT ’95: Proceedings of the IFIP WG10.3 working conference on Parallel Architectures and Compilation Techniques, pages 264–267, Manchester, UK, 1995. This paper presents our research results on the open problem of minimal loop unrolling, allowing a software-only code generation that does not trade the optimality of the initiation interval (II) for the compactness of the generated code. Our novel idea is to use the remaining free registers after periodic register allocation to relax the constraints on register reuse. The problem of minimal loop unrolling arises either before or after software pipelining, either with a single or with multiple register types (classes). We provide a formal problem definition for each scenario, and we propose and study a dedicated algorithm for each problem. Our solutions are implemented within an industrial-strength compiler for a VLIW embedded processor from STMicroelectronics, and validated on multiple benchmarks suites.  相似文献

Ferrocene, the parent of the metallocene family of organotransition metal compounds, has come to occupy a significant niche in cancer research. Developmental work in the authors' laboratory has been focused on the synthesis of antiproliferative ferrocene conjugates in which the bioactive ferrocene unit is covalently, yet bioreversibly bound (anchored) to water-soluble carrier polymers designed in accordance with requisite biomedical specifications. The anchoring link in most of these conjugates has been an aliphatic spacer containing the biofissionable amide group. In this communication the synthesis of a class of ferrocene conjugates is reported in which the ferrocene group is carrier-anchored through spacers containing an ester link, of interest here because of potentially different drug release behavior. The carriers are polyamides equipped with variously spaced hydroxyl side groups, to which the ferrocenylation agent, 4-ferrocenylbutanoic acid, is connected through esterification. The coupling reactions, mediated by carbodiimide agent and catalyzed by 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine, are carried out in DMF at temperatures not exceeding 65°C, and the water-soluble product polymers are isolated in yields of typically 70–85% by precipitation, aqueous dialysis, and freeze-drying. With the molar feed ratios chosen in these coupling experiments, the incorporation of ferrocene, assessed by 1H NMR spectroscopy, corresponds to iron contents of roughly 2.5–5.5%, by mass. Soil erosion from agricultural areas continues to be problematic in terms of both financial and environmental measures. Ephemeral gullies contribute to the soil loss both by the volume of sediment eroded from the gullies and because they act as delivery channels for surface erosion. High resolution aerial imagery was used to quantify the amounts and locations of ephemeral gullies in the subbasins of the Potlatch River system. Areal ephemeral gully erosion rates varied from 33.6?mt/km2 (0.15 U.S. t/acre) in the Big Bear Creek Subbasin to 88.4?mt/km2 (0.39 U.S. t/acre) in the Middle Potlatch Creek Subbasin representing 2.3–7.7% of the total surface sediment load. An erosion potential index was proposed to assist resource managers predict gully locations at the watershed scale using readily available remote sensing and geographic information system layers.  相似文献

Juvenile lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) were exposed to three dietary concentrations (0, approximately 2.5, and approximately 25 ng/g per BDE congener) of 13 BDE congeners (3-10 Br atoms) in the laboratory for 56 days, followed by 112 days of clean food, to examine bioaccumulation parameters and potential biochemical effects. The bioaccumulation of BDEs by the trout was highly influenced by biotransformation, via debromination, which resulted in bioaccumulation parameters that were much different than would be expected based on studies of chlorinated organic compounds (e.g., PCBs). Half-lives (t1/2's) for some BDE congeners (e.g., BDE-85 and -190) were much lower than expected based on their Kow, which was likely due to biotransformation, whereas t1/2's of other BDE congeners (e.g., BDE-66, -77, -153, and -154) were much longer than anticipated based on Kow. This was likely because the metabolites of BDE formed via debromination had the same chemical structure of these BDE congeners, which supplemented measured concentrations. The detection of three BDE congeners (an unknown penta, BDE-140, and an unknown hexa) in the fish that were not present in the food or in the control fish provide further evidence forthe debromination of BDEs. Half-lives of BDEs ranged from 38 +/- 9 to 346 +/- 173 days and biomagnification factors ranged from 1.6 (BDE-190) to 45.9 (BDE-100), but these bioaccumulation parameters need to be viewed with caution because they were highly influenced by debromination and relative abundance of individual BDEs that the fish were exposed to. CYP1A enzyme activity, measured as EROD, and free tri-iodothyronine (T3) concentrations in the plasma of lake trout varied significantly throughout the experiment but were not related to BDE exposure. In contrast, plasma levels of thyroxine levels (T4) were lower in both groups of PBDE-exposed fish compared with control fish after 56 days of exposure, and after 168 days in the high dose, suggesting that PBDEs may influence thyroid homeostasis at levels that are higher than what is normally found in the environment.  相似文献
