An extreme ultraviolet spectrometer has been developed for spectroscopic studies of highly charged ions with an electron beam ion trap. It has a slit-less configuration with a spherical varied-line-spacing grating that provides a flat focal plane for grazing incidence light. Alternative use of two different gratings enables us to cover the wavelength range 1-25 nm. Test observations with the Tokyo electron beam ion trap demonstrate the high performance of the present spectrometer such as a resolving power of above 1000. 相似文献

Fibrils of hemodialysis-associated beta 2-microglobulin amyloid were examined by high resolution electron microscopy and immunohistochemical labeling. The amyloid containing tissues obtained through autopsy were prepared for thin section observations. In contrast to other forms of amyloid, the most conspicuous feature of these fibrils were their curved conformations. The fibril core showed ultrastructural and immunohistochemical features in common with the core of connective tissue microfibrils and of previously observed fibrils of experimental murine AA amyloidosis and familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP). The core was wrapped in a layer of 3 nm wide ribbon-like "double tracked" structures identified as chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan (CSPG) with immunogold labeling as well as from the results of previous in vitro experiments. Finally, the outer surface of the fibril was associated with a loose assembly of 1 nm wide filaments immunohistochemically identified as beta 2-microglobulin. This is similar to the manner in which AA protein and transthyretin filaments are associated with their respective fibrils. The results of this study provide an additional example for the concept that amyloid fibrils in general are microfibril-like structures externally associated with amyloid protein filaments. An unusual feature of the fibrils of hemodialysis-associated amyloid, however, is the presence of a peripheral layer composed of CSPG rather than of heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) as in the case of the other two amyloids above. These chondroitin sulfate chains in the outer CSPG layer may be less effective in providing rigidity to the fibril core, thus allowing for the curved conformations of beta 2-microglobulin amyloid fibrils. 相似文献

Single crystals of α-Si3 N4 were annealed at 2000°–2150°C. The β phase was detected after annealing at 2150°C only when the crystals were surrounded by MgO·3Al2 O3 or Y2 O3 powders. On the other hand, no evidence of the α–β transformation was found when the crystals were annealed without additives. In this study, we investigated the Al–Sn flux system and its growth conditions to obtain AlN single crystals. AlN single crystals of a size of 50 μm were successfully grown using an Al–Sn melt under nitrogen gas pressure. The growable region of the AlN crystals was established using a pressure‐temperature diagram. The required nitrogen gas pressure for the growth of the AlN crystals was found to decrease with increasing temperature, and AlN was grown at 0.1 MPa nitrogen pressure above 1300°C. By investigating the AlN yield with various Al concentrations, we confirmed that the Al component in the Al–Sn melt facilitated nitrogen dissolution. Finally, scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that the obtained AlN particles showed good morphology. 相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the several roles that hydrogen plays in the catalytic growth of carbon nanotubes from the point of view of gas species, catalyst activation and subsequent interaction with the carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes and nanofibres were grown by thermal chemical vapour deposition, using methane and a mixture of hydrogen and helium, for a range of growth temperatures and pre-treatment procedures. Long, straight carbon nanotubes were obtained at 900?°C, and although the growth yield increases with the growth temperature, the growth shifts from nanotubes to nanofibres. By introducing a helium purge as part of the pre-treatment procedure, we change the gas chemistry by altering the hydrogen concentration in the initial reaction stage. This simple change in the process resulted in a clear difference in the yield and the structure of the carbon nanofibres produced. We find that the hydrogen concentration in the initial reaction stage significantly affects the morphology of carbon fibres. Although hydrogen keeps the catalyst activated and increases the yield, it prevents the formation of graphitic nanotubes. 相似文献

The Pt coating (Pt-C) process has been developed to lower the recontamination by radioactive elements after chemical decontamination of piping surfaces. In this process, a layer of fine Pt nano particles is formed in an aqueous solution on the base metal of the piping following the chemical decontamination. In this study, we confirmed that the suppression effect by the Pt-C toward 60Co deposition on type 316 stainless steel using a 60Co deposition test under hydrogen water chemistry. Furthermore, we investigated the suppression mechanism of deposition of radioactive elements by a quantum molecular simulation. The deposition amounts of 60Co which were incorporated in oxides after 1000 h with and without the Pt-C process were about 90 and 10.2 Bq/cm2, respectively. The amount of 60Co deposition with Pt-C is about 10% that of non-coated specimens. The 60Co incorporation for the Pt-C specimen was suppressed by decreasing the formation of oxides. We considered this phenomenon using a quantum dynamics calculation and concluded that the Fe–O bonds in oxides were weakened by the effect of Pt and hydrogen radicals which were produced in the reaction between H2 and Pt, and then oxides were dissolved into the water. 相似文献

Although clonal expansion of autoimmune T cells has been reported in multiple sclerosis (MS), very limited information is available on specificities, clonal size, or activation state of the expanded clones. Here we address the issue of clonal expansion by using a novel technique demonstrating clonotypes defined by single-strand conformation polymorphism of TCR beta-chain cDNAs. Examination of activated T cells (CD3+CD25+) isolated from the peripheral blood of MS revealed limited numbers (20 approximately 82) of expanded clones defined by single-strand conformation polymorphism clonotype. To estimate the Ag specificities of dominant clonotypes in the activated T cells, these samples were examined in parallel with Th1 T cell clones specific for myelin basic protein or proteolipid protein (PLP) derived from the same patients. Analysis of two patients demonstrated that the dominant clonotypes would contain those specific for myelin basic protein or PLP. Although the majority of the clonotypes could be detected only transiently, a PLP95-116-specific clonotype was found to persist for over 1 yr. Thus, single-strand conformation polymorphism clonotype analysis allows us to monitor the kinetics of given T cell clones in vivo and could provide useful information for designing clonotype (Id)-specific manipulation of human diseases such as MS. 相似文献

We examined the effects of interleukin-18 (IL-18) in a mouse model of acute intraperitoneal infection with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). Four days of treatment with IL-18 (from 2 days before infection to 1 day after infection) improved the survival rate of BALB/c, BALB/c nude, and BALB/c SCID mice, suggesting innate immunity. One day after infection, HSV-1 titers were higher in the peritoneal washing fluid of control BALB/c mice than in that of IL-18-treated mice. A genetic deficiency of gamma interferon (IFN-gamma), however, diminished the survival rate and the inhibition of HSV-1 growth at the injection site in the mice. Anti-asialo GM1 treatment had no influence on the protective effect of IL-18 in infected mice. IL-18 augmented IFN-gamma release in vitro by peritoneal cells from uninfected mice, while no appreciable IFN-gamma production was found in uninfected mice administered IL-18. Although IFN-gamma has the ability to induce nitric oxide (NO) production by various types of cells, administration of the NO synthase inhibitor NG-monomethyl-L-arginine resulted in superficial loss of the improved survival, but there was no influence on the inhibition of HSV-1 replication at the injection site in IL-18-treated mice. Based on these results, we propose that IFN-gamma produced before HSV-1 infection plays a key role as one of the IL-18-promoted protection mechanisms and that neither NK cells nor NO plays this role. 相似文献

The world's smallest (105×55×20 mm) and lightest (130 g) digital still camera has been developed, in which a 330 K pixel complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor chip is used as an image sensor. The authors have developed a new thinner and smaller image sensor module, called tape automated bonding (TAB) on glass (TOG) module, using the anisotropic conductive paste (ACP) interconnection method. The TOG production process was established by obtaining optimum bonding conditions for both optical glass bonding and CMOS chip bonding to the TAB tape. The bonding conditions including sufficient bonding margins, were mainly studied. The TOG module obtained good imaging properties, It also has a high reliability such as thermal cycle test (-40 to +110°C/30 min, 2000 cycles) and the high temperature storage test (60°C, 90% RH, 3000 h).
