It is shown, that if during adaptation the sensitivity of single detectors of the models (1) is constantly decreasing proportionally to the level of their excitation, then the differential sensitivity of the whole system to the stimulus near the adapting stimulus increase. The condition is deduced under which the perceived value of stimulus parameter is invarable during adaptation. A system is described which consolidates into a single unit the facilities required for color measurement, for spectrophotometric and colorimetric computations, and for formulation predictions and adjustments. This system represents a new generation of instrumentation, in which the design of the optical, mechanical, and electronic components is completely integrated with the data-handling facilities which are required for the efficient application of colorimetry to industrial processes. This paper compares and contrasts the six general methods available for solving the time dependent continuity equation numerically. Since finite-difference techniques naturally arise as the most generally applicable solution methods, consideration is given to solving the major remaining difficulties encountered in the general application of lagrangian and eulerian finite differences. In the former, triangular mesh cells with free reconnections are suggested as a complicated but serviceable solution to the lagrangian grid distortion problem. In the latter, nonlinear monotonic difference schemes are introduced as the natural way to avoid the eulerian positivity problem.
