Indifference-zone selection procedures have been widely studied and applied to determine the sample sizes for selecting a good design among k alternative designs. However, efficiency is still a key concern for using simulation to solve ranking and selection problems. Ordinal optimization has emerged as an effective technique to improve efficiency of simulation and optimization. In this paper, we incorporate the concept of ordinal optimization with ranking-and-selection methodology and propose using a normal approximation to estimate the probability of correct selection. The proposed procedure takes into account not only the sample variances but also the difference of sample means when determining the sample sizes. Furthermore, the procedure is valid with the variance reduction technique of common random numbers. An experimental performance evaluation demonstrates the efficiency of the new procedure.  相似文献

A solid oxide cell-based energy system is proposed for a solar-powered stand-alone building. The system is comprised of a 5 kWel solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), a 9.5 kWel solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC), and the required balance of plant. The SOFC supplies: 1- building demand in the absence of sufficient solar power, 2- heat for SOEC in endothermic and standby modes. Thermal integration of SOFC and SOEC is implemented through a network of heat exchangers, combined with set of control algorithms. Two control strategies were implemented to actuate the SOFC in response to endothermic heat demands of SOEC by manipulating: 1- electric power, 2- fuel utilization. The results of dynamic simulation of system for two scenarios (sunny day and cloudy day) showed successful compliance of temperature constraints with both methods. Manipulation of fuel utilization, however, resulted in better system performance in terms of efficiency and H2 balance.  相似文献

Information system development can be considered a collaboration between users and developers. The inability to leverage the localized knowledge embedded in these two stakeholders hinders software development work to achieve high performance. Exploring the ways to counter this difficulty is then critical. This study applies an intellectual capital perspective to address the issues around spanning the knowledge boundary between developers and users. Our findings highlighted how important effective knowledge boundary spanning is to both product and project quality. The Maxim's Electron Scatter Chamber (Maxim Chamber) was developed to obtain uniform dose distribution when applying electron beam (e-beam) irradiation to materials of irregular surface. This was achieved by placing a stainless steel mesh surrounding a cylindrical area where the target sample was placed. Upon contact with the mesh, electrons scatter and are directed onto the target from multiple angles, eliminating the e-beam linearity and resulting in a uniform dose distribution over the target surface. The effect of irradiation in the Maxim Chamber on dose distribution and pathogen reduction was tested on rabbit carcasses to simulate other larger carcasses. The dose uniformity ratio (DUR) on the rabbit carcasses was 1.8, indicating an acceptable dose distribution. On inoculated carcasses, this treatment reduced Escherichia coli O157:H7 by > 5 log cycles. These results indicate that carcass irradiation using e-beam is feasible using the Maxim's electron scattering chamber. Appropriate adjustments will be further needed for commercial application on beef and other animal carcasses.  相似文献
