Silica glass samples were given various heat treatments under stress at low temperatures and subsequently their residual stress distributions in terms of retardance were observed using a polarized light microscope, confirming previously reported fast surface stress relaxation while providing more detailed characterization. Retardance profiles of silica glass fibers heat-treated under a constant bending strain in the presence of atmospheric water vapor were measured and fit to a previously developed diffusion-based relaxation model. The retardance of a cross-section of a silica glass rod heat-treated at 650°C in lab air under applied torsional shear strain was also measured to confirm the presence of residual surface shear stress which was predicted by the decrease of torque with time for the rod. Together, these results confirm the low-temperature fast surface stress relaxation which occurs when water vapor is present for both bending and shear stresses.  相似文献

The <110>-oriented BaTiO3 ceramics were fabricated using BaCO3 matrix and H1.08Ti1.73O4.nH2O (HTO) template particles, and the mechanism of BaTiO3 phase formation was investigated. The dielectric, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties were also investigated. The transformation of the HTO phase into the TiO2 bronze or TiO2 (B) phase was observed at 600°C, where the BaTiO3 nucleation was accompanied by the formation of a Ba2TiO4 phase. The TiO2 phase reacted with the Ba2TiO4 phase at 800°C to give a BaTiO3 phase, whereas its reaction with the BaTiO3 resulted in the formation of BaTi2O5 phase that got decomposed into BaTiO3 and Ba6Ti17O40 phase at sintering temperature ≥1300°C. Sintering with samples’ embedding in BaTiO3 powders prevented the formation of the Ba6Ti17O40 secondary phase. The crystallographic orientation along the <110> direction (F110) was developed by the epitaxial grain growth mechanism. In addition to the contribution of the grain-size increment for enhancing the F110, the preservation of the platelike structure was also found to have a significant impact. The ceramics prepared by the embedded sintering (grain size ≈12.4 µm and F110 = 83%) exhibited the room-temperature dielectric constant of 1708 and piezoelectric strain constant of 445 pm/V, which are higher than those of the BaTiO3 ceramics with randomly oriented grains.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The microstructural evolutions of pure Ag and Ag-0.75 wt-%Sn during rapid cooling friction stir welding (FSW) were examined. At the lower welding temperature of FSW conditions, the annealing twinning was highly suppressed and the microstructural evolution was dominated by the discontinuous dynamic recrystallisation (DDRX) via the high angle boundary (HAB) bulging. The fully recrystallised microstructure was remarkably finer than that formed through the frequent annealing twinning at the higher welding temperature. Moreover, the Sn-addition caused the HAB bulging due to the inhibition of dynamic recovery and decreased mobility of grain boundaries. With decreasing the ratio of the peak temperature to the recrystallisation temperature, the dominant grain refinement mechanism is implied to change from the annealing twinning to the DDRX.  相似文献

Copper was alloyed with small amounts of Al (0.2, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mass%) to improve the oxidation resistance. Copper (6 N) and the Cu-Al alloys were oxidized at 773-1173 K in 0.1 MPa oxygen atmosphere after hydrogen annealing at 873 K. Continuous very thin Al2O3 layers were formed on the surface of all Cu-Al dilute alloys during the hydrogen annealing. Oxidation resistance of Cu-Al alloys was improved especially for Cu-2.0Al at 773-973 K, while it decreases on increasing the oxidation temperature. Cu-Al alloys followed the parabolic rate law at 1173 K, but most of other cases do not at and below 1073 K. Oxidation resistance for Cu-Al alloys was found relevant to the maintenance of the thin Al2O3 layer at the Cu2O/Cu-Al alloy interface.  相似文献

Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) have attracted global concern due to their ubiquitous distribution and properties of persistence, bio accumulation and toxicity. The process of adsorption has been identified as an effective technique to remove PFCs in water. Different non ion-exchange polymeric adsorbents were tested with regard to their sorption kinetics and isotherms at low PFCs concentrations. Selected PFCs were perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA), perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) and the tested polymers were three types of Dowex optopores (V-493, V503, and L493), Amberlite XAD-4, and Filtrasorb 400 (Granular Activated Carbon-GAC). We observed the selective adsorption of PFCs on synthetic polymers. For PFDA, Amberlite XAD-4 gave the Freundlich adsorption constant of 2,965 (microg PFCs/g sorbent)(microg PFCs/L)(-n), which was higher than that of GAC (121.89 (microg PFCs/g sorbent) (microg PFCS/L)(-n)). In the case of PFBA, GAC showed better performance (13.36) (microg PFCs/g sorbent) microg PFCS/L)(-n) than synthetic polymers (0.62-5.23) (microg PFCs/g sorbent) (microg PFCS/L)(-n). Adsorption kinetics of all adsorbents were well described (R2 = 0.85-1) by pseudo-second order kinetic model. Sorption capacity was influenced by initial PFCs concentration for all adsorbents. GAC reached the equilibrium concentration within 4 hours, Amberlite XAD 4 reached it within 10 hours and other polymers took more than 70 hours.  相似文献

The relationship between the characteristics of gradient-index rod lenses obtained by ion exchange and their mother glass compositions is studied. It is observed that Li(2)O content, R(2)O (Li(2)O + Na(2)O) content, and the Li(2)O/Na(2)O ratio are important factors in attaining a high acceptance angle and a small field curvature. Thus the gradient-index lens array is fabricated by the use of a newly developed glass composition and its optical performance; the modulation transfer function, luminous intensity, and chromatic aberration are precisely evaluated. The array is found to have a sufficiently high performance to be applicable for color use.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To clarify the role of heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) and chemokines in integrin-mediated T cell adhesion to endothelial cells in the synovium of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS: Endothelial cells were purified from RA synovium. Expression of heparan sulfate, chemokines, and adhesion molecules on the endothelium was assessed by immunohistochemical analysis or flow cytometry. The effects of chemokines and heparan sulfate on T cell adhesion to RA endothelium were estimated with relevant antibodies and signaling inhibitors. Production of chemokines from synovial T cells was detected by Northern blotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: The endothelium in RA synovium highly expressed HSPG. The soluble form of chemokines, macrophage inflammatory protein 1beta (MIP-1beta), induced T cell adhesion to the endothelial cells. When MIP-lalpha and MIP-1beta were immobilized on RA endothelial cells, a more efficient integrin-mediated adhesion of T cells was induced compared with their soluble form. The induced T cell adhesion was reduced by pretreatment with either heparitinase, anti-MIP-lalpha antibody, or anti-MIP-lbeta antibody, indicating that these chemokines were bound to heparan sulfate on the cells. T cell adhesion was also inhibited by pertussis toxin, wortmannin, and cytochalasin B. MIP-lalpha and MIP-1beta were found on vessels in RA synovium in vivo, which were spontaneously produced from T cells purified from RA synovium. CONCLUSION: Endothelial cells in RA synovium characteristically express HSPG, which is involved in T cell integrin triggering by "posting" chemokines, which are produced by synovial T cells, and by "relaying" them to their receptors on T cells, which activate G protein-dependent phosphoinositide 3-kinase and actin-dependent integrin triggering.  相似文献

We have recently chosen to undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the modulation of gene expression by oxidative stress, using mRNA as a marker. Our model system is HA-1 hamster fibroblasts, using conditions under which we observe an adaptive response. Under these conditions, the HA-1 cells respond to a minimally toxic "pretreatment" dose of hydrogen peroxide by synthesizing RNAs and proteins that protect them against subsequent exposure to a highly cytotoxic concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Using the differential display technique to screen for modulated RNAs, we have recently reported an RNA species, adapt15/gadd7, whose steady-state level is significantly induced by a pretreatment dose of hydrogen peroxide (D. R. Crawford, G. P. Schools, S. L. Salmon, and K. J. A. Davies (1996) Arch. Biochem. Biophys. 325, 256-264). Here we report a second induced mRNA, designated adapt33. Two homologous adapt33 mRNAs were revealed by Northern blot hybridization. Both of these species were inducible by hydrogen peroxide, and they were sized at 1.46 and 0.99 kb. These inductions appeared to be dependent upon calcium, occurred as early as 90 min, and were maximal at 5 h. Cell fractionation revealed that a significant proportion of adapt33 RNA is associated with active translation. adapt33 is a novel sequence, as determined by cloning, sequencing, and GenBank analysis. adapt33 represents a new oxidant-inducible RNA and marker of cellular oxidative stress and a potential aid in the study, detection, and possible therapy of oxidant-related disorders.  相似文献
