The geometric area of the tip of an intracortical stimulation electrode can be defined by combining photoresist masking with oxygen plasma etching of Parylene.1 The method was tested with both capacitor and iridium oxide electrodes and caused no significant degradation of the electrical properties of the electrode.  相似文献

Air plasma spraying has been used to produce porous composite cathodes containing (La0.8Sr0.2)0.98MnO3−y (LSM) and yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) for use in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). Preliminary investigations focused on determining the range of plasma conditions under which each of the individual materials could be successfully deposited. A range of conditions was thereby determined that was suitable for the deposition of a composite cathode from pre-mixed LSM and YSZ powders. A number of composite cathodes were produced using different combinations of parameter values within the identified range according to a Uniform Design experimental grid. Coatings were then characterized for composition and microstructure using EDX and SEM. As a result of these tests, combinations of input parameter values were identified that are best suited to the production of coatings with microstructures appropriate for use in SOFC composite cathodes. A selection of coatings representative of the types of observed microstructures were then subjected to electrochemical testing to evaluate the performance of these cathodes. From these tests, it was found that, in general, the coatings that appeared to have the most suitable microstructures also had the highest electrochemical performances, provided that the deposition efficiency of both phases was sufficiently high.  相似文献

A randomized double-blind, active controlled, parallel group, multi-center phase II clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of reduced-nicotine cigarettes as a novel smoking cessation treatment (under Investigational Device Exemption 69,185). The concept for a reduced-nicotine cigarette designed to progressively wean smokers from the smoking habit is based on research demonstrating that successful smoking cessation is not only dependent on withdrawal of nicotine, but also on weaning from the habitual sensory and behavioral reinforcement of smoking. Treatment consisted of Quest brand of cigarettes (Quest 1, 2, and 3), which respectively deliver 0.59+/-0.06, 0.3+/-0.05, and less than 0.05 mg nicotine, either alone or in combination with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). The primary endpoint was 4 weeks of continuous abstinence (Weeks 7-10), with additional follow-up at 3 and 6 months. Adult men and women smokers (N = 346), motivated to quit, were randomized to one of three treatment groups: Quest plus NRT (NRT pretreatment 2 weeks before, and NRT after the quit date), Quest plus placebo patch, or active control plus NRT (conventional cigarette, followed by NRT after quit date). Results showed that Quest plus NRT was more effective than active control plus NRT in achieving 4 weeks of continuous abstinence (32.8% vs. 21.9%). Quest plus placebo patch yielded an abstinence rate similar to that of the active control plus NRT (16.4% vs. 21.9%). No serious adverse events were attributable to the investigational product. Quest plus NRT offers promise as a new smoking cessation treatment.  相似文献

Many time-multiplex switching systems require that the incoming traffic be scheduled to avoid conflict at the switch output (two or more users converging simultaneously upon a single output). Optimal scheduling provides a means to assign traffic on demand such that either blocking probability is minimized (unbuffered system) or packet waiting time is minimized (buffered system). However, computation of an optimal schedule for switches of a reasonable size (i.e. N=100) may require many seconds or even minutes, whereas the traffic demand may vary much more rapidly. Since the computation time varies as O(N2), the problem becomes readily intractable for large N. This computational bottleneck is overcome by using a scheduling algorithm which is run on a simple special-purpose parallel computer (cellular automaton). A schedule is produced in O(N) time if signal propagation time in the automaton is considered negligible, and therefore increases in computation speed by several orders of magnitude should be possible; the time to compute a schedule for a 1000-input switch would be measured in milliseconds rather than minutes  相似文献

A numerical integration technique utilizing a point source Green's function is introduced to analyze the wave behavior in transversely isotropic-type anisotropic media allowing us to make fast and accurate computations of the acoustic field. The centrifugally cast stainless steel (CCSS) used in nuclear power plants is chosen as a sample medium because of its columnar grain character leading to material anisotropy. A representative number of field profiles are computed and plotted to illustrate the quasi-longitudinal, quasi-transverse, and horizontally-polarized shear wave propagation in a transversely-isotropic medium. Phenomena such as beam skewing, beam splitting, beam focusing, unsymmetrical beams, and other anisotropic effects, some of which are already known from earlier experimental observations, emerge as a computational result of the introduced technique.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to test a mediational model of associations between parental overprotectiveness (OP), behavioral autonomy, and psychosocial adjustment in 68 families with 8- and 9-year-old preadolescents with spina bifida and a demographically matched sample of 68 families with able-bodied children. Measures included questionnaire and observational assessments of parental OP; parent and child reports of behavioral autonomy; and parent, child, and teacher reports of preadolescent adjustment. On the basis of both questionnaire and observational measures of OP, mothers and fathers of children with spina bifida were significantly more overprotective than their counterparts in the able-bodied sample, although this group difference was partially mediated by children's cognitive ability. Both questionnaire and observational measures of parental OP were associated with lower levels of preadolescent decision-making autonomy as well as with parents being less willing to grant autonomy to their offspring in the future. For the questionnaire measure of OP, and only for the spina bifida sample, the mediational model was supported such that parental OP was associated with less behavioral autonomy, which was, in turn, associated with more externalizing problems. In this paper, we consider switch‐and‐stay combining (SSC) in two‐way relay systems with two amplify‐and‐forward relays, one of which is activated to assist the information exchange between the two sources. The system operates in either analog network coding (ANC) protocol where the communication is only achieved with the help of the active relay or time‐division broadcast (TDBC) protocol where the direct link between two sources can be utilized to exploit more diversity gain. In both cases, we study the outage probability and bit error rate (BER) for Rayleigh fading channels. In particular, we derive closed‐form lower bounds for the outage probability and the average BER, which remain tight for different fading conditions. We also present asymptotic analysis for both the outage probability and the average BER at high signal‐to‐noise ratio. It is shown that SSC can achieve the full diversity order in two‐way relay systems for both ANC and TDBC protocols with proper switching thresholds. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
