To obtain more biologically relevant data there is a growing interest in the use of living cells for assaying the biological activity of unknown chemical compounds. Density ‘multiplex’ cell‐based assays, where different cell types are mixed in one well and simultaneously investigated upon exposure to a certain compound are beginning to emerge. To be able to identify the cells they should be attached to microscopic carriers that are encoded. This paper investigates how digitally encoded microparticles can be loaded with cells while keeping the digital code in the microcarriers readable. It turns out that coating the surface of the encoded microcarriers with polyelectrolytes using the layer‐by‐layer (LbL) approach provides the microcarriers with a ‘highly functional’ surface. The polyelectrolyte layer allows the growth of the cells, allows the orientation of the cell loaded microcarriers in a magnetic field, and does not hamper the reading of the code. It has further been shown that the cells growing on the polyelectrolyte layer can become transduced by adenoviral particles hosted by the polyelectrolyte layer. It is concluded that the digitally encoded microparticles are promising materials for use in biomedical and pharmaceutical in‐vitro research where cells are used as tools.  相似文献

In this paper, a piezoelectric actuator (PEA) system is approximated by N subsystems, which are described by pulse transfer functions. The approximation error between the PEA system and the fuzzy linear pulse transfer function system is represented by additive nonlinear time-varying uncertainties in every subsystem. First, a dead-beat to the switching surface for every ideal subsystem is designed. It is called the "variable structure tracking control". The output disturbance of the ith subsystem is caused by the approximation error of fuzzy-model and the interaction dynamics resulting from other subsystems. In general, it is not small. Then, the H/sup /spl infin//-norm of the sensitivity function between the switching surface and the output disturbance is minimized. It is the "optimal robustness". Although the effect of the output disturbance is attenuated, a better performance can be reinforced by a switching control which is based on the Lyapunov redesign. This is the final step for the robustness design of control, which is "reinforced robustness". The stability of the overall system is verified by Lyapunov stability theory. Experimental work of a PEA system was carried out to confirm the validity of the proposed control.  相似文献

For a rubber-toughened piperidine-DGEBA epoxy resin, the interface between the rubber particle and the epoxy resin matrix was modified by an epoxide end-capped carboxyl terminated butadiene and acrylonitrile random copolymer (CTBN). The end-capping epoxides used were a rigid diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (Epon 828), a short-chain flexible diglycidyl ether of propylene glycol (DER 736), and a long-chain flexible diglycidyl ether of propylene glycol (DER 732). The microstructures and the fracture behaviour of these rubber-modified epoxy resins were studied by transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Their thermal and mechanical properties were also investigated. In the rubber-modified epoxy resins, if the added CTBNs were end-capped by a flexible diglycidyl ether of propylene glycol (DER 732 or DER 736) before curing, the interfacial zone of the undeformed rubber particle, the degree of cavitation of the cavitated rubber particle on the fracture surface and the fracture energy of the toughened epoxy resin were all significantly increased. The toughening mechanism based on cavitation and localized shear yielding was considered and a mechanism for the interaction between cavitation and localized shear yielding that accounts for all the observed characteristics is proposed.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the preparation of NiZn ferrite with small substitutions of copper by means of ceramic technology. The influence of small Cu substitution on the microstructural and magnetic properties of NiZn ferrites have been analysed by means of various experimental methods and interpreted from the point of view of preparation technology optimisation and possible applications of such materials. A strong correlation between the substituent content and resulting properties has been observed, thus allowing preparation of material with the properties tailored for any particular application.  相似文献

Ready-to-drinks (RTDs) are composed of an alcoholic component and a soft-drink base and are primarily consumed by a youth market. The authors explored whether liking and experience with an RTD soft-drink base predicts liking for the RTD. Participants (N=350) from ages 12 to 30 years sampled 3 RTDs and their respective soft-drink and alcoholic components. For milk- and fruit-based RTDs, liking for and familiarity with their soft-drink base was the best predictor of liking for and familiarity with the RTD itself. For the Coke-based RTD, familiarity with and liking for bourbon best predicted familiarity with and liking for the RTD. All of these effects were consistent across blind and nonblind testing. The authors' results suggest that where there is perceptual similarity between the RTD and its soft-drink base, these beverages may provide an easy transition into alcohol consumption for novice drinkers. In this paper we describe the application of data mining methods for predicting the evolution of patients in an intensive care unit. We discuss the importance of such methods for health care and other application domains of engineering. We argue that this problem is an important but challenging one for the current state of the art data mining methods and explain what improvements on current methods would be useful. The increasing demands concerning the modifiability and connectivity of business processes cannot be met adequately anymore by relying on best practices only. There is an urgent need for a reference conceptual framework for studying, modeling, analyzing and designing business processes. The Language–Action Perspective (LAP), in particular Habermas’ theory of Communicative Action offers a sound and rigid foundation for such a framework. In this paper, the DEMO (Demo Engineering Methodology for Organizations)-framework is presented. It builds on the LAP-based theoretical foundation of the DEMO methodology. Several other LAP-based frameworks have been proposed in the past years. They are evaluated in a comparative review with the DEMO-framework. Several shortcomings of these frameworks are revealed and discussed. The practical applicability of the DEMO-framework is demonstrated using a small example.  相似文献

The deactivation of a commercial type V2O5-WO3-TiO2 monolith catalyst under biomass combustion was studied at a full-scale grate-fired power plant burning straw/wood using a slip stream pilot scale reactor. The aerosols in the flue gas consisted of a mixture of potassium chloride and sulphate. Three catalyst elements were exposed at 350 °C, and one element was exposed at 250 °C for comparison. The catalyst activity was measured in the reactor at the exposure temperature by addition of NH3 and extra NO. The activity, in terms of a first-order rate constant, dropped by 52% after about 1140 h indicating a very fast deactivation compared to coal firing. It was also found that the reactor temperature was not of importance for the deactivation rate. SEM-EDX analysis showed that particle deposition and pore blocking contributed to the deactivation by decreasing the diffusion rate of NO and NH3 into the catalyst. However, potassium also penetrated into the catalyst wall and the resulting average K/V ratio in the catalyst structure was high enough (about 0.3–0.5) for a significant chemical deactivation. Chemisorption studies carried out in situ showed that the amount of chemisorbed NH3 on the catalyst decreased as a function of exposure time, which reveals that Brøndsted acid sites had reacted with potassium compounds and thereby rendered inactive. When washed by 0.5 M H2SO4 the regenerated catalyst regains a higher activity than that of the fresh catalyst at temperatures higher than 300 °C, but even though reactivation is possible, the deactivation rate appears too high for practical use of the SCR process in straw combustion.  相似文献
