Maintenance of good indoor air quality for residences could be very challenging. Episodic event such as cooking emits a large amount of ultrafine and supermicron particles. A numerical model is used to simulate a 10-min cooking process in a real room, followed by a few more minutes to allow the decay and removal of particles. Particle dispersion and deposition in the kitchen and the living room are simulated by a new drift-flux model. Strong buoyancy flow is observed and particle concentration is significantly affected by the thermal plume. Results show that for supermicron particles strong non-uniformity of concentration is observed in the kitchen but the non-uniformity is less obvious in the living room. In a mobile cooperative caching environment, we observe the need for cooperating peers to cache useful data items together, so as to improve cache hit from peers. This could be achieved by capturing the data requirement of individual peers in conjunction with their mobility pattern, for which we realized via a GROup-based COoperative CAching scheme (GroCoca). In GroCoca, we define a tightly-coupled group (TCG) as a collection of peers that possess similar mobility pattern and display similar data affinity. A family of algorithms is proposed to discover and maintain all TCGs dynamically. Furthermore, two cooperative cache management protocols, namely, cooperative cache admission control and replacement, are designed to control data replicas and improve data accessibility in TCGs. A cache signature scheme is also adopted in GroCoca in order to provide information for the mobile clients to determine whether their TCG members are likely caching their desired data items and to perform cooperative cache replacement Experimental results show that GroCoca outperforms the conventional caching scheme and standard COoperative CAching scheme (COCA) in terms of access latency and global cache hit ratio. Trigeneration systems offer an inherently efficient, low-carbon approach to producing useful energy streams. Due to multiple products from a trigeneration system, the challenge of allocating carbon footprint to each energy stream arises, particularly if the streams are sold to different customers. A fuzzy fractional programming model is proposed to design a trigeneration system, taking such allocation into account. The model allows for solving for a configuration that gives the minimum carbon footprint for each energy stream, given a range of values for demand for each product in a trigeneration system. The final design must meet a specified energy output requirement, while satisfying fuzzy carbon footprint limits for all products. The attraction of female and male Bactrocera papayae to conspecific males fed with methyl eugenol (ME) and female attraction to male synthetic sex pheromone, trans-coniferyl alcohol (CF), were evaluated in a wind tunnel. Earlier and greater attraction were exhibited by both females and males to ME-fed than to non-ME-fed males as dusk approaches. Males increased their precopulatory behavior (i.e., wing fanning and mounting) during the period of higher attractancy. These data confirm that the consumption of ME enhances the mating competitiveness of males and suggest that ME also functions as a precursor to the male sex and aggregation pheromones. Three phenylpropanoid compounds biosynthesized from ME, coniferyl alcohol, 2-allyl-4,5-dimethoxyphenol, and 3,4-dimethoxycinnamyl alcohol, were detected in male rectal gland along with an endogenous rectal compound, N-(3-methylbutyl) acetamide. Electrical heterogeneities play a role in the initiation of cardiac arrhythmias. In certain pathological conditions such as ischaemia, current sinks can develop in the diseased cardiac tissue. In this study, we investigate the effects of changing the amount of heterogeneity and intercellular coupling on wavefront stability in a cardiac cell culture system and a mathematical model of excitable media. In both systems, we observe three types of behaviour: plane wave propagation without breakup, plane wave breakup into spiral waves and plane wave block. In the theoretical model, we observe a linear decrease in propagation velocity as the number of heterogeneities is increased, followed by a rapid, nonlinear decrease to zero. The linear decrease results from the heterogeneities acting independently on the wavefront. A general scaling argument that considers the degree of system heterogeneity and the properties of the excitable medium is used to derive a dimensionless parameter that describes the interaction of the wavefront with the heterogeneities. 相似文献

The overall safety of a food product is an important component in the mix of considerations for processing, distribution, and sale. With constant commercial demand for superior food products to sustain consumer interest, nonthermal processing technologies have drawn considerable attention for their ability to assist development of new products with improved quality attributes for the marketplace. This review focuses primarily on the nonthermal processing technology high-pressure processing (HPP) and examines current status of its use in the control and elimination of pathogenic human viruses in food products. There is particular emphasis on noroviruses and hepatitis A virus with regard to the consumption of raw oysters, because noroviruses and hepatitis A virus are the two predominant types of viruses that cause foodborne illness. Also, application of HPP to whole-shell oysters carries multiple benefits that increase the popularity of HPP usage for these foods. Viruses have demonstrated a wide range of sensitivities in response to high hydrostatic pressure. Viral inactivation by pressure has not always been predictable based on nomenclature and morphology of the virus. Studies have been complicated in part from the inherent difficulties of working with human infectious viruses. Consequently, continued study of viral inactivation by HPP is warranted. 相似文献
